Why isn't there a genuine 'Men's Movement'..?

So instead of Pick Up Artists, MRAs, UKIP etc, why isn't there a genuine 'Men's Movement' to look at issues such as male suicide, depression, alcoholism, difficulties with expressing emotions and vulnerability, male violence ( against both men and women), homophobia, how to have a fulfilling relationship with a woman and be a good father etc? I would fully support anyone who attempted to do this as they are laudable and important aims.

INSTEAD OF SLAGGING US OFF FOR TRYING TO ADDRESS ISSUES THAT AFFECT US AS WOMEN?

No, misogyny has never "just" meant hatred of women.

It always implied the structural power behind the hatred.

Just like racism isn't just one group's dislike of another.

It always references power.

PanISAButterfly · 26/11/2014 22:29

Chivalry? Ermmm...like I say, get better men, and do a reality check.

FloraFox · 26/11/2014 22:27

ris can you answer this?

What is your view of MRAs campaigning to take resources from women's refuges to give to men's refuges?

DisgruntledAardvark · 26/11/2014 22:25

Yeah, that time a guy held a door open for me (as if women never do that for men) really cancels out the catcalling, the unwanted touching...

BertieBotts · 26/11/2014 22:23

This is bizarre. Using youtube comments as ammunition in your argument? I mean have you READ youtube comments?

FloraFox · 26/11/2014 22:21

Chivalry? Oh my sides!

rissepuc · 26/11/2014 22:20

"misogyny" IMO has to be the most over-used word in existence in this country. It used to mean hatred of women but now it means anything and everything feminists don't like.

And I think feminists seem to forget women have privileges of their own such as chivalry.

Anonnynonny · 26/11/2014 22:15

""Misandry isn't a thing,"

If someone hates men/boys for no reason other than because they are male, that is misandry."

Whereas misogyny is a whole system of woman-hatred that is woven into the law, medicine, politics, society, media, culture - the very fabric of our lives. It led to women being excluded from education, politics and property and in fact being re-defined as property, not persons. We are still living with the results of it, with our assumptions, our psychological outlook, the way we organise society, the way we live. We had only just begun to examine and realise some of the effects it had had on us and is still having on us, when men grandly declared that we're all equal now and there's no need to worry about inequality anymore.

Do you see the difference?

PanISAButterfly · 26/11/2014 22:12

equally not at all sure why you've popped in here rissepuc.

g'night.

PanISAButterfly · 26/11/2014 21:57

If the poor provision of male DV victims exists, then it really isn't the 'fault' of women, or feminists. But like I say, you wish to 'blame' them (or anyone else). Some one-off incident does not reflect the overall fact of life experience of DV and the need for facilities. But you still wish to portray an image of an unmet need for men in this regard, and hold onto that as a gripe against women/feminists. I'd think if it wasn't that issue, you'd think of something else to feel bad toward women/feminists.
Get better men in your life?

FloraFox · 26/11/2014 21:49

So you don't actually know whether they are campaigning for extra money or campaigning to take a share of women's resources? What is your view of MRAs campaigning to take resources from women's refuges to give to men's refuges?

FloraFox · 26/11/2014 21:44

Look your posts have been low quality but reposting shit from YouTube comments are beyond the bottom of the barrel. The unintelligent commenting on the unintelligible.

rissepuc · 26/11/2014 21:42

"Men's activists hold a public forum to discuss the possibility of giving male victims of domestic violence some of the social services that are currently only available to female victims. Feminists, who strongly oppose any recognition of male victims of abuse, disrupt the forum and try to shut it down."

And are you happy with the fact services for male victims are non-existent? If male victims were to talk about this would you show up to shout and scream "women beaters" at them?

Despite the way its worded I really don't think it means take services off women to give to men, I'm pretty sure the possibility of more shelters being created would have been raised, but if that's what you want to think.

rissepuc · 26/11/2014 21:35

"Can you imagine being abused, coming to a forum to stand up against your abusers, and then being told you are a "woman beater" by screaming "protestors"? Some people don't have to imagine.

Well done, feminism, you have officially disgusted me beyond recovery.?"

One of the comments below the video, says it all really.

FloraFox · 26/11/2014 21:32

I think you'll find it's feminists showing up uninvited and shouting and screaming at male victims of domestic violence.

That's not at all evident from the video so I'd have to take your word for it except I won't take your word for it.

As for the caption, it says it below the video.

rissepuc · 26/11/2014 21:28

"so some feminists get angry with you."

But what is it about men talking to other men about men's rights issues that angers feminists? Are they afraid their victim mentality will be damaged? Do feminists love playing the "victim" and thinking of men as oppressors and get angry when any alternative view is discussed?

PanISAButterfly · 26/11/2014 21:23

Feminists hate men.

Even if that was true.......it doesn't matter. You're still looking for someone else to blame.

PanISAButterfly · 26/11/2014 21:19

oh come on, so some feminists get angry with you. Frankly, big deal. Does that disable you? It's an easy excuse for not doing anything, apart from being 'angry'. Which I'm sure you are looking for, essentially.

rissepuc · 26/11/2014 21:19

"what about men having the means to sort things out for themselves?"

Like I've already said MRAs aren't expecting feminists to sort things out for them. Feminists hate men, so it would be foolish to expect anything from them other than abuse and malicious allegations.

PanISAButterfly · 26/11/2014 21:13

okay - the video aside for the moment, what about men having the means to sort things out for themselves? You know we can do it, surely? At no cost to anyone, or being 'disappointed' at anyone else. I'm thinking you're avoiding the real issue, i.e. it's about you, if I may say.

"MRA groups want to use what the women have built and want to take the women's funding (which seems to be what was going on in the video, according to the caption). "

How on earth did you come to that conclusion?

" that just about all of the ills that men suffer can be ameliorated by themselves, and not look to women, or feminists, to do that for them."

Any attempt by males to do just that is met with screaming from feminists (both online and offline) in an attempt to silence them.

rissepuc · 26/11/2014 21:07

" A bunch of people shouting at each other "

I think you'll find it's feminists showing up uninvited and shouting and screaming at male victims of domestic violence.
