He didn't get it, did he?

My personal view is that a suspended sentence was in order for the level of the assault and the fact that he has no other convictions.

But that speech on the steps of the court moved me to touch him, and not in a touchy-feely kind of way.

Shouting at The Times journalist in court just goes to show how these men get away with intimidating their victims even while on trial. He's lucky he didn't do it while the judge was sitting. Mind you, his type would probably still get away with contempt of court. It's beyond fucking annoying that he is still being allowed to portray himself as the real victim in all this. It's guys like him that perpetuate the idea of some evil female conspiracy to bring men down using sex charges, which leads to things like the system failing to support the teenage girl assaulted by Arnis Zalkalns, which leads to Arnis Zalkalns being free to roam the streets, which leads to ...

To make the world safer for all women we need to stop the discrediting and maligning of sexual assault victims.

emotionsecho · 27/09/2014 00:16

DLT's constant insistence that he was "a big cuddly bear" and that meant he had carte blanche to grope was just vile. If he kept his mucky mits to himself he wouldn't have been convicted of sexual assault, such an easy concept but one which he seems unable to grasp.

Just for rutters1 that advert is a post modern ironic gender reversal of the genre known as 'Carry On', dreamt up by a man wearing a Donald Draper suit who listened to DLT in his youth. HTH.

Scarletohello · 26/09/2014 23:35

Fuck I wish he'd gone to prison. A suspended sentence just seems like a slap on the wrist. And enables him to make statements like he did today. He seemed angry and there was not one ounce of remorse.

Vile man.

Chippednailvarnish · 26/09/2014 23:32

What was the general consensus on the Jeremy Vine show?

limitedperiodonly · 26/09/2014 23:24

I think the judge should be able to jail anyone, who once found guilty, comes out with such a load of self serving bollocks.

Rufus If it was between conviction and sentencing, he'd risk a heavier penalty from the judge. As it is, it's distasteful, but he's allowed to do it.

What I meant to ask in my OP was whether he should have been indulged on the steps of the court by the media.

I am a journalist and I know why it happened. But IMO, not only should it not have happened, if it had been any other crime, it wouldn't.

Sex offences against adult women are different though.Owen Oysten was allowed to insist he didn't do it either. He may be out, but he's still a rapist.

Not that the Hairy Cornflake is a rapist. He's a titty groper. I want to be accurate. And I'd hate to be deleted by his defenders like erm, what was his name again?

There's a picture with some news stories I've seen of some poor woman presenting ( Annie Nightingale ?) on a relatively recent Top of The Pops and on one side is DLT licking her face and on the other Jimmy Savile seemingly looking at her boobs.

Grim

Yes indeed. Or as we women like to call it, "Life."

gincamparidryvermouth · 26/09/2014 23:17

He is a sex offender. He sexually assaults women as a matter of course. He is a worthless piece of shit.

Bunbaker · 26/09/2014 23:12

I heard the journalist being interviewed on Jeremy Vine this week. DLT sounds like a dirty old man.

I used to love his radio show as well.

Vile man and it's disgusting that he has been given air time to try and defend himself

Chippednailvarnish · 26/09/2014 22:59

I spent 90 minutes with the former Radio 1 DJ Dave Lee Travis last Thursday and I don’t think there is a part of my body that he didn’t grope. He fondled my foot, inched his hands up my thighs, tried to make me sit on his lap and kissed me. He copped a feel of my hips when I foolishly asked for a tour of his studio, stroked my chin and my back and gave me a full body hug as I left. I know he has a reputation for flirting — but honestly, he is nearly 70

From Camilla Long's 2012 article. He couldn't have possibly not known what he was doing. Vile creep.

limitedperiodonly · 26/09/2014 22:56

I'm conflicted about Babs SevenZarkSeven.

Though I disapprove of her endorsement of gambling and the Kray twins, I like her work in the Carry On series, particularly in Carry On Spying, which is my favourite of the genre.

But whatever I thought of her craft, I certainly wouldn't let Babs's conduct distract me from the core fact that Dave Lee Travis Is.A.Convicted.Sex.Offender.

I know I said I'd ignore him, but is NuttyRutty back? Smile

PetulaGordino · 26/09/2014 22:48

the judge said that his assault was "intentional and unpleasant". dlt is "mortified" that he was convicted (not that he carried out the assault)

revolting

Clawdy · 26/09/2014 22:44

How can he smugly say "I'm glad it's been proved I am not a sexual predator", when it's been proved he is exactly that. Hateful man.

RufusTheReindeer · 26/09/2014 22:38

yonic

Dammit!!!!

limited

I don't think it should be allowed, I think the judge should be able to jail anyone, who once found guilty, comes out with such a load of self serving bollocks

SevenZarkSeven · 26/09/2014 22:36

Oh.

I'm glad you clarified that.

I genuinely thought you started this thread to complain about Barabara Windsor.

Grin

And YES WTF he's an absolute cunt isn't he and it's worth bearing in mind they didn't reach a verdict on another allegation and not all allegagtions against him cam to trial and there were lots of allegations lots and lots and lots. Still bearing in mind they were allegations, obviously.

Plus of course he has just stood outside a courtroom and said that he does not consider cornering women and fondling them intimitely to be a problem at all. So, there's that.

Creepy pervy fucking lehcerous old bastard.

AnyFucker · 26/09/2014 22:36

I don't have a problem with him being allowed to hoist himself by his own petard...

limitedperiodonly · 26/09/2014 22:33

Sorry, I didn't explain it very well in my OP, but my motivation for starting this thread was outrage that an offender, any offender, should be convicted and sentenced and then have the temerity to step outside court and be allowed to diminish his crime or pretend that he hadn't done it.

I can't imagine that it would happen in the event of any other crime.

In fact, it didn't even happen in the case of Max Clifford. But now I'm thinking about it, maybe that was because Clifford was taken into immediate custody and couldn't grandstand on the steps of the court.

It's not just Dave Lee Travis who doesn't think it matters, is it?

OP posts:
YonicScrewdriver · 26/09/2014 22:27

It's not official, Rufus. There's an exam you have to fail first!

Wink
RufusTheReindeer · 26/09/2014 22:23

Shit just got the picture

I'm an idiot...it's official

RufusTheReindeer · 26/09/2014 22:18

I was also irked by his whining about how much money had been wasted on the trial

WELL STOP ASSAULTING WOMEN THEN NUMBNUTS!!!!!!

CheckpointCharlie · 26/09/2014 22:16

Good post limited

gincamparidryvermouth · 26/09/2014 22:03

Fucking feminists!

Montegomongoose · 26/09/2014 22:03

I was shocked by his whiny self-pitying comments and the utterly inhumane lack of any kind of apology.

I've always thought him a talentless twat but now I utterly despise him.

Who the fuck does he think he is?

PetulaGordino · 26/09/2014 22:01

so 50% of posts on a thread about a convicted sex offender are devoted to reassuring a derailer that yes, we all think that a shit advert simulating female to male sexual assault is bad

what a fucking waste

but that's the point isn't it

(yes i know i'm just adding to it)
