He didn't get it, did he?

My personal view is that a suspended sentence was in order for the level of the assault and the fact that he has no other convictions.

But that speech on the steps of the court moved me to touch him, and not in a touchy-feely kind of way.

OP posts:

thanks, my fellow Whovian Grin.

so in other words he basically gets away with it and his devoted wife stays with him and he wins.

YonicScrewdriver · 27/09/2014 17:19

It means he only goes to jail if he breaks the law or any other conditions of the sentence; then this sentence would be activated and mean jail time.

AnyoneForTARDIS · 27/09/2014 17:14

forgive my complete dunceness but-

what exactly does 'suspended' sentence mean?

PuffinsAreFicticious · 27/09/2014 17:12

The comments on the article on Twitter are interesting too. It's not 'as bad' as what JS, RH et al did, so you shouldn't bother the police, but because Camilla Long didn't bother the police, she must have been lying. It's almost as if these people want to silence victims.

Oh, hang on...

PetulaGordino · 27/09/2014 17:09

no i'm not surprised at spouses standing by either. i do wonder what they might have been subjected to themselves though

PetulaGordino · 27/09/2014 17:08

"Women get their bottoms pinched. It is part of life. Get over it"

it's illegal ffs

just because it's "not as bad" (i.e. what DLT was convicted of) as rolf harris, max clifford or jimmy savile then the victim isn't entitled to the legal process? where is the cut-off point?

YonicScrewdriver · 27/09/2014 17:06

I'm not shocked by spouses standing by; I never am. Whether they will continue to stand by once the media have gone and they've got space to think, I don't know.

YonicScrewdriver · 27/09/2014 17:04

Whining about the waste of taxpayers' money is a load of crap too. Could've saved that money, plus your own, by pleading guilty, DLT!

mymummademelistentoshitmusic · 27/09/2014 16:56

Not read the thread yet, but have to say, the case notwithstanding, he's come across as an arrogant, foul, entitled piece of excrement. Maybe probably that's why he thought it was/is ok to do the things he's done. Shocked at the wife standing by it as well.

Clawdy · 27/09/2014 16:56

I've been rather surprised by the reporting of papers like the Guardian and the Independent, I expected better I suppose. Yet the Mirror this morning used words like "arrogant...self-pitying tirade...bleating...whining...not an iota of remorse..." Well done.

PuffinsAreFicticious · 27/09/2014 16:46

Apparently we all just need to get a bit of perspective it's perfectly ok for someone to grope someone's breasts for 15 seconds. And also ok to tell your employees not to fuck the guests...

Right-o

LondonMilly · 27/09/2014 16:21

Did anyone hear Camilla Long on Jeremy Vine being heavily criticised by another woman who thought it was ridiculous that she should complain about DLT's behaviour during the interview and said she should have hit him??? I don't know who the other woman was, does anyone remember?

PetulaGordino · 27/09/2014 01:24

yes that is very true

NickAndNora · 27/09/2014 01:22

Given the way victims of sex crimes are treated in the media and on social media I have enormous respect for the former TV researcher who came forward in this case. There is a part of me that wonders if she would have been believed if she was a former care-home child who did not go on to be successful in life.

ElephantsNeverForgive · 27/09/2014 01:17

It's a front page carnival for the masses while the underlying culture of misogyny and not believing women, particularly as Rochdale showed, vulnerable women goes on.

NickAndNora · 27/09/2014 01:13

Scarlethello

I saw the first image on the Twitter account of a radfem but the statistics are from the Department of Justice in America (so not from the UK but probably comparable). The second image was a front page of The Independent.

Show Trials. that's exactly it, Elephants

PetulaGordino · 27/09/2014 01:10

i don't know actually, i'm a bit conflicted on that. while we don't always see the results we might like, there is an element of saying to these famous, wealthy, entitled men that what they thought was a bit of harmless fun, or their right, or a perk of the job, actually caused harm and disgust and hasn't been forgotten

ElephantsNeverForgive · 27/09/2014 01:03

Into the future.

ElephantsNeverForgive · 27/09/2014 01:03

A few high profile show trials can't put right the wrongs of the past.

I'd far rather see the money spent on better DV policing, education and social services training to improve the lives of women and girls now and I'm the future.

ElephantsNeverForgive · 27/09/2014 00:53

I just feel sorry for all the thousands of women watching this expensive farce and thinking, the boss, colleague, boyfriend, teacher who abused me isn't famous.

No one in authority is going to spend ££££ to try them once, let alone twice!

Scarletohello · 27/09/2014 00:49

Great images Nickand. Where did you get them from?

NickAndNora · 27/09/2014 00:45

He says he's going to campaign against the way suspected sex offenders are treated.

What a noble cause for him to get behind. Here's some images to show the terrible way suspected sex offenders are treated.

Move over Gandhi, Mother Teresa and Nelson Mandela. Here comes DLT! Won't somebody think of the sex offenders?!

I've just seen the journalist speaking on the news. She was very shaken by DLT's rant at her. I'm so annoyed the court didn't do anything. Why does the judge have to be there for anything to have been done?
On the other hand it just shows everyone his true colours.

He says he's going to campaign against the way suspected sex offenders are treated.Hmm

sandysbrain · 27/09/2014 00:31

Three months SUSPENDED? WTAF?

And are we supposed to believe that he groped this one woman but all the others were making it up?

I hope the CPS appeal the laxity of the sentence, but I won't hold my breath.
