It's not just the big things, it's the little things that are in some way more irritating to me.

Just got out of the dentist. It's a small practise and I guess the receptionist is off sick as the reception desk still had shutters down, so they were a little bit late opening up. One woman was sitting in waiting room when I arrived. A man came in a little after me.

The dentist came out and opened up the desk.

Guess who quickly jumped up and got there to be dealt with first?

oh FFS. In so many posts Buffy you are being really deliberately dishonest. Which is quite a serious thing to say. e.g I never said the topic/whole thing was boring or trivial. I said that you were being boring with a clockwork-type response to anything I say. And no, you don;t stand by your posts - you are kidding yourself there. Your dots just don't add up. I don't know who is inside of BuffyBubble to say this stuff to you in RL, but whoever it is isn't doing a good job.

Justwhateverreally · 20/09/2014 21:54

I know I'm new to FWR and I know it's easier to say than do, but can I possibly suggest some kind of collective ignoring policy?
There's no point engaging with people who both derail threads and also don't seem to be ingenuous in their posting.

This thread would have been so much more interesting if it hadn't been derailed by a couple of people.

This thread is the perfect example of why this thread was started.

I was fairly chilled when I started reading this but now I'm feeling really angry.

Tip to deal with the splayed leg sitters when they encroach on your leg space. Cross legs, make sure you are engrossed in book/newspaper, swing the top leg back and forth making sure you rap the encroacher's calf somewhere between the back of the knee and halfway down at each swing. Repeat as necessary to achieve desired result i.e. encroacher retreats to own seating boundaries.

ToffeePenny · 20/09/2014 21:35

Toilets.

Men's are always worse than women's (based on the smell from outside the doors and glimpses when doors are open of both in public places). I can't decide on the most likely cause. Perhaps it's:

A) Men piss on the floor more because they piss standing up (why?) which is messier and then don't clean it up (because?)
B) Men and women piss equally on the floor but women are more likely to clean up after themselves (because?)
C) Men's toilets are inferior to women's toilets at containing piss
D) I have a female brain that enables me to notice men's piss more than women's (which, while probably making me and all other women more suitable to be a cleaner of toilets, means my experiences should be discounted)

Grin OK!

For the edification of timid readers and Larry
Assertive bar skills:

  1. Cash or card in hand
  2. Slither through first two rows
  3. Push through first row, elbowing elbows on both sides
  4. Elbows on bar - preferably both - money held at shoulder height
  5. Take stock of customers already waiting
  6. As soon as someone (99% sure to be male) demands early service, shout out who was next
  7. Loudly order as soon as next person's been served

Blokes don't have to learn this rigmarole, do they? They just know they'll get served before Bland's died of gin deficiency.

PansOtherPeople · 20/09/2014 21:29

yes, Buffy a strange and detached perspective..tbh I don't want to 'win' anything with you - it's you that quotes the scorecard etc, so own that bit?....am still admiring your ability to distance yourself from the contents of your posts.

Performance Review - " earnest, but needs better self-reflection". Happy?Grin

night.

More ginGrin

GarlicSeptimus · 20/09/2014 21:25

Hang on, Bland, I'll use my sometimes unpopular assertive bar skills to get served. What do you want with your gin? :)

ABlandAndDeadlyCourtesy · 20/09/2014 21:21

I need gin!

PansOtherPeople · 20/09/2014 21:20

No ABland, there is no such thing as "back story credits" round here.Smile - but I totally accept the point about 'not starting off well'....

Greengrow · 20/09/2014 21:18

Any man who doesn't believe this is what goes on must be very unobservant. The main thing is that women know and are ensuring it dies out - so all will be well. If some men want in the meantime to continue to delude themselves so be it, but they are very wrong.

But do you see what I'm trying to get at? Your first post on the thread wasn't "Pepper, did you mean to come across as if.. XYZ?"

I am more careful with my posts here than in the rest of MN because it's a small board. If you want some "back story credit" on FWR for your past comments on sexism, then I wouldn't have started out the way you did on this thread.

It feels like you are trying to have it both ways.

PansOtherPeople · 20/09/2014 21:02

Umm..it was a fairly horrible post, as it stood, so when faced with that, the space for a 'benefit' of doubt is very restricted. I/one sees that sort of stuff fairly regularly, so no I guess I wasn't keen on giving it any breathing space, though Pepper clarified it afterwards?

ABlandAndDeadlyCourtesy · 20/09/2014 20:58

Err, your response didn't give her any benefit of the doubt, Pan. Or do you feel it did?

PansOtherPeople · 20/09/2014 20:56

No, I don't know Pepper either, but her post was fairly odd and provocative to a first reading. So, yes, one can't make assumptions, which is what I indicated about me fwiw?

PansOtherPeople · 20/09/2014 20:52

Scallops 'we see you'. to be frank, you scallops see bugger all.

ABlandAndDeadlyCourtesy · 20/09/2014 20:49

X post scallops!
