This has been started in response to the massacre and anti women manifesto by Elliot Rodgers. Makes for interesting reading...

I read all the way to the end expecting the women-hating to be slipped in somewhere. Maybe Paul Dacre's on holiday.

CaptChaos · 28/05/2014 22:25

I hardly thought they were going to don sack cloth and wear ashes and tell everyone that they have been wrong about women all this time, and start taking on a feminist editorial team, but hey! It's a start! No doubt they'll be back on their 'seeeeeeeeeeeeee! All women are bastards!' trip again soon enough.

JassyRadlett · 28/05/2014 22:20

It's imperfect, of course, but it's something! Headline is 'California virgin killer's misogynist rants inspire Twitter campaign #YesAllWomen'

So, yeah. Still Daily Mail, right there.

22honey · 28/05/2014 22:19

Its quite funny how several posters on this thead have now admitted that they are white and middle class, after terrorising me about it with 'how do you know anyone on this forum is a white middle class, it must be because of their writing, that means you think non white people cannot write you racist etc etc'

Kind of explains the fury to every opinion I have had, not based on logic but based on the fact they are offended by my opinions and stating of facts about middle class women (ie they are 3 times less likely to be a victim of abuse than poorer women)

CaptChaos · 28/05/2014 22:17

Really Jassy? That's almost the most amazing thing I have ever read on MN! I might even turn off my tea and kittens to have a look. I do hope it has achieved something, an awakening that it's not just hairy arm-pitted braless feminist harridans who need to take account of misogyny or who have experienced it in their lives. That it's not the preserve of a down trodden few, but is the everyday lived experience of a majority of women.

JassyRadlett · 28/05/2014 22:16

Who's pretending it's a non issue?

22honey · 28/05/2014 22:13

'I think it's shit, honey. But it doesn't alter the fact that, as you say, it's exponentially more likely to happen to a woman, and shouldn't be used to suggest that women aren't systematically more exploited (usually) by men, for the entertainment of men. And even that a woman is more likely to be judged solely on her looks than a man.'

Yes, surely you must also agree that the pornification of human beings is damaging to all individuals.

Many young men these days for example have just as bad an inferiority complex about their looks as women.

No one is using it to suggest women arnt systematically more exploited.

But pretending that its a non issue purely because something happens to women more is kind of like saying no funds should be given to rarer cancers because cancers like breast and bowel are more common.

The media imposing what one should be onto young men quite possibly was one of many indirect causes of the 22 year old misogynist murderer.

What interests do male media executives have in sexualising young and attractive men?

JassyRadlett · 28/05/2014 22:09

Chaos, if the campaign has achieved nothing else, it's got the Daily Mail writing serious, detailed articles in which it uses the word misogyny and makes it clear it's a negative thing.

I think it's achieved much more than that, though.

JanineStHubbins · 28/05/2014 22:07

Haven't patronised you at all, honey. Called you out on hypocrisy, yes.

22honey · 28/05/2014 22:06

'I'm an inveterate white middle-class woman. Lefty academic and all, even worse!'

Probably why you've took such offence to everything I've said and keep attempting to patronise me.

JanineStHubbins · 28/05/2014 22:04
Grin
Downamongtherednecks · 28/05/2014 22:03

janine I'm worse than you. White, middle class, bleeding heart NGO worker.

JassyRadlett · 28/05/2014 22:02

I think it's shit, honey. But it doesn't alter the fact that, as you say, it's exponentially more likely to happen to a woman, and shouldn't be used to suggest that women aren't systematically more exploited (usually) by men, for the entertainment of men. And even that a woman is more likely to be judged solely on her looks than a man.

CaptChaos · 28/05/2014 21:57

And back AGAIN to the thread.....

Did you manage to have a look 7Days? What did you think. I am almost afraid to have another good look, just in case it has been taken over by fuckwits Shock

JanineStHubbins · 28/05/2014 21:56

Nah, you wouldn't be interested in anything I have to say. I'm an inveterate white middle-class woman. Lefty academic and all, even worse!

22honey · 28/05/2014 21:54

How am I contradicting myself? She posted that she didn't say this and that when I never even said she did.

Have you got anything useful to add to the debate than attempting to bait, Janine?

22honey · 28/05/2014 21:52

' But it all contributes to an internalised idea that women are lesser;'

I agree with your point, but what about the sexual objectification of men which seems to be becoming even more abundant these days? Male strippers are really popular and there are tons of 'naked man' calendars and stuff sold.

OBVIOUSLY its not on the same scale as it is with women but it would be silly to deny attractive looking men wernt sexually objectified aswell.

Downamongtherednecks · 28/05/2014 21:52

janine thanks, I was starting to worry be concerned that I am in fact trapped in a late night, first-year student debate in the 1990s.

JassyRadlett · 28/05/2014 21:51

Yeah, I'm just confused about why you posted it back to me as if I'd been distancing myself from it or had disowned it. I really haven't, I stand by every word.

JanineStHubbins · 28/05/2014 21:49

Actually laughing now, 22honey. You've contradicted yourself twice in the last twenty minutes.

22honey · 28/05/2014 21:47

No infact, I never actually said that Down's made that statement.

Downs, why are you accusing me of saying it was you who posted it?

Do people on this forum deliberately try to confuse other posters or what? When I quoted Jassy I didn't put anyones username next to it.

22honey · 28/05/2014 21:45

Jassy, the wrong person must have been quoted at one point.

Downamongtherednecks · 28/05/2014 21:45

Er. I'm not jassy promise.

22honey · 28/05/2014 21:45

And I wouldn't consider anyone who was a hapless bully towards women who had been abused when they state their opinions on the feminism related issues that affect them just because it doesn't fit in with their radicalised world view, a feminist.

JassyRadlett · 28/05/2014 21:44

Yep, I said that. I think you're responding to Down's post, where she correctly said she did not say it.
