This has been started in response to the massacre and anti women manifesto by Elliot Rodgers. Makes for interesting reading...

I am hoping to supersede Moya as the go-to person cormorant quotes Wink

It started with "LTB"......

FloraFox · 29/05/2014 09:10

Good one AF

Experience only confers gravitas when it is imparted with wisdom.

Yes. I think, true or not, enough allowances have been made for the prostitution back story. Clearly, one would do well to remember that past abuse does not make one a flawed saint. (this is also true of many other scenarios)

FloraFox · 29/05/2014 00:32

JFC I now think 22honey is both a man and an MRA. I think the prostitution back story was a ruse to build credibility to crap all over threads.

Downamongtherednecks · 28/05/2014 23:42

Loved the hashtag timeline. Deceptively simple and eloquent, multiple female experiences in 140 characters -- but then I started thinking about Maya Angelou's last tweet and started crying again.

BriarRainbowshimmer · 28/05/2014 23:36

Very sad at the same time. But at least people are speaking up

BriarRainbowshimmer · 28/05/2014 23:35

I agree that it's uplifting to see so many serious, supportive tweets Jassy.

Scarletohello · 28/05/2014 23:28

Ha! Forgot the bloody link.

So in the interests of balance here's a link to a Guardian article about #yes

It's v good

( but don't read the comments at the bottom...)

CaptChaos · 28/05/2014 23:19

Jassy, I know, I know. I lost my head there in a fit of, the Daily Hate is being fluffy, maybe the commentators will be too, euphoria. I am suitably chastened! However, a quick womble through some more tweets has set me on an even keel again.

Briar... what a bargain! I wonder if they know or care that that's what they've done?

Sorry, stupid of me!

JassyRadlett · 28/05/2014 23:16

Reading the hashtag timeline is so wonderful. Hugely diverse voices and experiences, speaking and being heard.

BriarRainbowshimmer · 28/05/2014 23:13

Thanks to that DM sidebar I could read about sexual harassment and read sexually objectifying descriptions & photos at the same time!

JassyRadlett · 28/05/2014 23:12

Chaos!! Never ever read the bottom half of the internet!

Scarletohello · 28/05/2014 23:09

Here's a link to the tweets.

Bloody brilliant!

Don't read the commentssssssssssssssssssss!

My eyessssss, my eyes!!! Sad

Scarletohello · 28/05/2014 23:04

Ooh noo! I did find it eventually, so sorry you had to do that! I think this use of Twitter is bloody fantastic, giving women a voice that they have long been denied. Liked the comments by the men that were highlighted in that article too. It's not just a problem that affects women and sometimes I despair that men don't always see that.

OP posts:
RamsaySnowsSausage · 28/05/2014 23:00

I'll take one for the team

JassyRadlett · 28/05/2014 22:54

Oh Scarlet are you asking me to link to the Daily Mail?

I'm not sure I can do it.

RamsaySnowsSausage · 28/05/2014 22:54

Yes, I agree RFFU #YesAllWomen

Scarletohello · 28/05/2014 22:51

Oh my eyes, my eyes! Scrolled thro loads of DM tripe but couldn't find that bloody article...

< Sad face >

OP posts:
Scarletohello · 28/05/2014 22:41

Bloody ell, The Daily Fail??

I guess if a story's big enough they can't ignore it?

Will go have a look...

ramsay I think every single woman is treated inferior. Not even as a class. Individuals.

If you took (for example) a white middle class 35 year old woman and compared her to a white middle class 35 year old male, she'd had been treated as though she were less that man.

It's about comparing like for like.

A black 27 year old woman from a working class back ground, against a 27 year old black male of similar back grounds. She will be the one of the two who is inferior.

ReallyFuckingFedUp · 28/05/2014 22:31

I left school at 16.

I was on free lunch and food stamps

I suffered male violence my whole life.

I still think you're incredibly obnoxious and ill informed and like most people who haven't got anything of value to say... awfully loud about saying nothing at all.

RamsaySnowsSausage · 28/05/2014 22:30

Just to clarify that it was me who said 'Women are treated as inferior'.

And what I meant by that is 'Women are treated as inferior'. It did not need a 'some' as it is talking about women as a class, not every single individual. You can compound the inequality with race, income/class etc. but it was not relevant to my point.

Back to the OP, I keep popping to Twitter and the hashtag is still going strong...over 270 new tweets in the time it's taken to write this. From what I can see very little is trolling and every nasty comment has challengers. It's brilliant to see.

It's great to see so many men involved and so many women able to express and share their experience, worries and support.

That this has been such a big thing is really encouraging. A lot of the posts are sad or terrifying but the scale is somehow very comforting.

Feminism is becoming 'cool' and popular. Many people absolutely hate that but their arguments are few and being constantly challenged.

I'm feeling feministly-optimistic and that's a raaaaaare thing Smile
