This is something like the fourth pub chat thread - please pull up a chair at the bar. Everyone welcome. Smile

Old thread is here: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/1920422-The-Feminist-Pub-continued?

But it's pretty much full so welcome in.

And definitely LTB with Martin. Man has no respect for other people. Imagine prying into Saga's past like that. But I think he should get together with Saga. Imagine the conversation they'd be having. Grin

LRDtheFeministDragon · 29/01/2014 07:29

Thanks! Smile

I've been known to tick "other" and then write "gender is a social construction" on questionnaires.

That's what I'm going to do from now on. Grin

I also find questionnaires very difficult. I'm brought up as a mathematician and I simply cannot resist asking "what exactly do you mean by that". I even asked a nursery worker when the kids were little what exactly she meant by "creative". Blush

TheDoctrineOfSnatch · 29/01/2014 06:33

It's interesting, isn't it? I really like Martin too but if Mette was on Relationships, it would definitely be a case of LTB!

I don't really understand how Saga and Jakob came to move in together...

kickassangel · 29/01/2014 01:10

I have been known to write None of your business for gender. Smile

DuskAndShiver · 28/01/2014 22:37

I just came back to say great blog post, LRD!

LRDtheFeministDragon · 28/01/2014 22:19

That's really kind of you. I might do that, even if it's rather unformed thoughts. Thanks very much.

Oh, that's extremely kind of you - TBH I am a bit intimidated to take it up. I'm still at the stage of pondering without being sure where it will go. But thank you.

Love it! I am so going to use that next time I have to fill in a form that asks my gender.

Poor Jakob - I was not being rude about him

PacificDogwood · 28/01/2014 22:03

Poo Jakob. I bet he's a feminist Sad

Night, Penguins - hope the bump lets you sleep Wink

LRDtheFeministDragon · 28/01/2014 22:00

Not to worry - I just sparked up when you mentioned what you do.

Night night! Smile

LRD - not much I am afraid. A very little in the first year of my degree. I am sure there are legal academics who do masses though. Off to bed but in the unlikely event that I know anything of use I am happy to help. Smile

DuskAndShiver · 28/01/2014 21:57

Yup, Jakob is toast.
I thought it was funny that there was a whole horrified socially conscious digression into "What? You gave the potentially allergic man hazelnuts?!" (when by this time it was already known he was lying) - whereas in a UK or US drama no one would have given a shit about that.

PacificDogwood · 28/01/2014 21:55

Yes, I love her too and think she's so good at what she does and beautiful (even though my 'type' is not blonde. And I'm not into women).
I love how she takes off her t-shirt at work and tries so hard to read up about relationships, bless her. But I fear Jakob is doomed - he is bit of a wet drip IMO. I really like Martin too - although they are all far to reasonable in their relationship dealings with each other (struck me in the recent Borgen too btw).

DuskAndShiver · 28/01/2014 21:54

Buffy, I have a work colleague who found it a great relief to do that test and find herself scoring relatively highly. I don't think she is interested in a formal diagnosis, but I think she is giving herself permission to move towards the areas of work that she has a natural aptitude for, and not beating herself up about not being all about the endless meetings, etc. She is quite young and is at a good time of her life to make decisions and I feel she is really coming into her own.

DuskAndShiver · 28/01/2014 21:52

I love Saga, Pacific. I love that she is clever and gets shit done and I love that she has a relationship with Martin which is not all about a "frisson". I also find her face fascinating, I have a friend who has a facial scar a bit like that and she is gorgeous too (shallow)

LRDtheFeministDragon · 28/01/2014 21:42

penguins ... please do shut me up if I am being terribly rude ... but as a lawyer, do you have to study legal history?

I'm being entirely cheeky here, I'm just trying to get my mind around a new project about the gendered history of (amongst other things) testimony and I am floundering.

OP posts:
PacificDogwood · 28/01/2014 21:39

Oh, the answer-counters must love you, Penguins - I'll have to remember that one Grin

And you're welcome, Buffy Blush I'd ask how your backside was, but it seems a bit forward

PenguinsDontEatKale · 28/01/2014 21:37

Pacific - I am a lawyer. On paper based questionnaires I am well known for refusing to tick any box and writing little notes arguing with the premise of the question or giving different answers depending on circumstance. Grin
