Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

When will MRAs realise that it's Misogynists who hate men, not Feminists!

I was thinking about this again last night.

Feminists believe that men are not genetically programmed to rape, abuse, hurt, cheat or oppress.

Feminists believe that men are responsible for their own actions, and capable of behaving decently and treating others equally.

It's the Misogynists who assume that they can't control their penises/behaviour/actions.

It's Misogynists who believe women should manage their own behaviour to avoid triggering some genetic fuckwittery.

So, why is it that Feminists are painted as man-haters, and not those who actually do?

Answers on a postcard please....

Curlaw, indeed!

Dontgiveaway, one of my best mates is like that too. Doesn't understand that men are coming from a position of power and that the phrase "all animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others" is applicable within the patriarchy.

There is such a thing as a moderate MRA though. One of my best friends is one, and is of the opinion that equality goes both ways. Very keen on shared parental leave and the like.

He also believes that rape is always the fault of the rapist. I can't tell you how happy I was when he said that. Makes a change from the apologists that seem to be all over the Internet.

curlew · 15/11/2013 18:16

They are also very keen on pointing out that men are just as likely to be victims of domestic violence as women, that men are frequently raped by women, and that the circumcision of infant boys is exactly the same as FGM.

Kisses I have to say, you do have a way with words. I am saving this thread because I may have need in the future to plagiarize quote your posts. Wink

BarfaStewart · 15/11/2013 16:48

Quite! Some people just can't take a joke.

Its all harmless fun, I suppose. Its not as if your hurting anyone.

BarfaStewart · 15/11/2013 16:24

Oh, that reminds me, another category to add to the list:

The Stud. They would never, EVER rape. Rapists are disgusting. They should have their cocks cut off. I mean, you can persuade a woman to sleep with you, especially if she's drunk!

OP posts:
BasilBabyEater · 15/11/2013 15:27

Oh yes Kisses that might be it.

And it wouldn't have any other agenda, like maybe knowing that you're able to rape and get away with it.

Perish the thought that there's a man on earth who might not want that option to be unambiguously closed to him. Nothing could be further from a MRA's mind...

CaptChaos · 15/11/2013 15:11

Yes that's right, they're very keen on ensuring that rape is defined in such a way as to ensure that most men who rape, can get away with it and have it not defined as rape at all.

And conversely, that all women who sexually assault men should be locked up and never be allowed out.

Because.... and feel free to sing along....

women do it tooooooooooooooooooooo

KissesBreakingWave · 15/11/2013 15:06

Because he doesn't realise that a world full of women who feel safe in the company of men is a world is a lot more fun for everyone?

BasilBabyEater · 15/11/2013 14:57

Yes that's right, they're very keen on ensuring that rape is defined in such a way as to ensure that most men who rape, can get away with it and have it not defined as rape at all.

Can't imagine why any man would have a vested interest in ensuring that. Just can't think why.

KissesBreakingWave · 15/11/2013 14:51

Oh, but they never rape. They've never hidden in a dark alley, leapt out at a modestly-dressed sober virgin, dragged her into the said alley and, enduring the vigorous fight-back, forced their un-condommed member into her vagina wherein they ejaculate.

Without all of those elements, it's not rape, donchaknow?

BasilBabyEater · 15/11/2013 14:38

Not so keen on ensuring that men take responsibility for not raping women though.

Funny that. Hmm

BasilBabyEater · 15/11/2013 14:34

No it's also very keen on ensuring that women take responsibility for not being raped. Very keen on that. Hmm

Biggedybiggedybongsoitis · 15/11/2013 13:46

Does MRA-ism purely revolve around custody and other child-related matters? It's all I ever seem to read about.

KissesBreakingWave · 15/11/2013 13:43

(He decided I'd be sympathetic because I was having access trouble in the courts myself. I've maintained contact and as they've grown up they've come to have roughly the same opinion of their mother as I do. They're counting down the days when they can say stuff the court order and move in with me Grin)

LeBFG · 15/11/2013 13:42

I wouldn't have given him access to the cat I haven't got Grin

KissesBreakingWave · 15/11/2013 13:41

I have. I was on a Masters' degree course a few years ago, he was part of the FFJ crowd. He was having trouble with access to his kids. Within about an hour of meeting him, I realised I wouldn't have given him access to the cat I haven't got. I'd have been a bit chary of leaving him in charge of a houseplant I didn't much care for. (He dropped out of the degree course when he discovered that Hard Sums were involved.)

Biggedybiggedybongsoitis · 15/11/2013 13:40

No, BFG. I wonder if they exist outside of the internet? It's a great place to come and spill anonymous tripe.

LeBFG · 15/11/2013 13:36

Oh I see Barfa - just get uppity when I perceive a science dig.

Anyone actually met a self-proclaimed MRA in RL?

alexpolistigers · 15/11/2013 13:33

I've come to the conclusion that the world is full of stupid people a lot of them seem to be in government. They may not be deliberately malicious, but that doesn't really help me if they are too stupid to realise the consequences of their actions. The result for me is the same.

The answer, BarfaStewart, is that they will never realise that. This is because, deep down, they hate men too. They may call themselves men's rights activists, or some other label, but they have such a low opinion of themselves and other men, they feel so inadequate, that they project it onto everyone else.

BarfaStewart · 15/11/2013 13:30

no, I wasn't referring to real scientists. Rather to the men who use evolution as an excuse. Grin

OP posts:
LeBFG · 15/11/2013 13:26

There are the scientists who believe that men have been providing for eons, it's in their nature, and women are naturally subservient. Scientists, as a class, don't believe this. Only non-scientists think this is true. Science has known for a long time that behaviour is a mix of nature/nuture. And even though behaviour has heritable components, it doesn't make it in the least inevitable or justifiable from a moral perspective - nurture has a huge impact.

I do agree with the rest though of course.

BasilBabyEater · 15/11/2013 12:58

Another vote for:

"while you should never attribute to malice that which can be explained by stupidity, sufficiently obdurate stupidity is indistinguishable from malice"

YYY. I was just going to say that when it comes down to it, a lot of them are really just woefully, hopefully stupid and their stupidity is enhanced by their life experiences which have reinforced their stupid notions. That lack of intelligence shines out from their posts. But KissesBreakingWaves has said it more succinctly. Grin
