feminism v MRA's

Hi all

I've been reading this board for the last couple of months as I'm keen to learn more on the subject. I see bits written about MRA's trolling etc but what I'd like to know is are there any MRA groups trying to work along side feminists for the good of children?

I've been trying to read more about the MRA groups but they don't get a good rep on here and to be fair googling it seems to mainly bring up negative stories. I'm sure there are plenty of men who aren't bothered about there kids.

I know of a few who were at school with me who are like that but even if just one good man is being restricted from seeing his kids by a vindictive mother and gets help from a group like that wouldn't it be worth it?

Im not trying to stir up an argument and may seem a little naive about it but like I said I'm trying to learn more about it.

Hope that makes sense

It's quite a pattern really. Random op posts faux naive nonsense, SF pops up and hijacks.

TheDoctrineOfWho · 08/11/2013 23:00

I think it's a comeback tour, Chub.

Chubfuddler · 08/11/2013 22:59

Thought SF had retired from the FWR section. Oh well.

TheDoctrineOfWho · 08/11/2013 22:46

THAT was deemed a PA?

Really?

Beachcomber · 08/11/2013 22:40

The phrase "cry rape" is so misogynistic that it is hard to know where to begin with it.

It does however expose the MRAs who employ it, as the anti-feminist, anti women's rights, male supremacists that they really are. MRA is just a euphemism for male supremacist.

NiceTabard · 08/11/2013 20:55

Yeah it's bollocks innit

BasilBabyEater · 08/11/2013 20:18

"If a woman regrets the sexual encounter, she can easily cry rape. Not only is the guy presumed guilty, he’s screwed if it gets as far as a college tribunal."

That's another reason feminists tend to dislike MRA's. Because they are rape apologists.

And here is SF doing her usual modus operandi. Post a whole load of MRA shite then refuse to answer direct questions put to her. Then when the questions become persistent, she finds a reason to exit the thread. Until tomorrow, when she will do the whole thing over again.

NiceTabard · 08/11/2013 18:33

charity just ignore sigmund. Not something I'm capable of, obviously, but still.

I have been much less active lately as am tired of MRA trolling but, you know, it's nice to get engaged, there are so many good people here and also people reading but not engaging who you would be talking to Smile

Robust.

Or cuddly.

Whichever.

Sig

This is a board about feminism not a board for feminists, as has been discussed before. Nonetheless, the majority of posters are feminists and given how scathing you are about feminism and feminists, is it any wonder that disagreement sometimes becomes robust?

Bunnylion · 08/11/2013 18:08

SF - You seem very angry today.

Come and have a cuddle.

SigmundFraude · 08/11/2013 17:57

Of course. Pot/Kettle was a shortened version of this. From Wiki:

'The phrase "The pot calling the kettle black" is an idiom used to claim that a person is guilty of the very thing of which they accuse another.'

In this case, it's persons, I know you said it, but it's very common round these parts.

My head didn't literally explode. That was kind of a euphamism for 'Blimey o Riley, I'm rather speechless'.

Anyhoo, must go pick up DH.

JanineStHubbins · 08/11/2013 17:41

Excuse me Sigmund? Is that directed at me? Please do explain.

TheDoctrineOfWho · 08/11/2013 17:40

NiceTabard

Not to mention the women at college who have been suspended after reporting rapes and sexual assaults on them...

SigmundFraude · 08/11/2013 17:40

I think my head just exploded with the kettle/blackness of that comment Janine. But anyway, as above.

JanineStHubbins · 08/11/2013 17:30

No-one's leading you anywhere, Sigmund, just pointing out how you have extrapolated from the article you linked in order to suit your own agenda.

SigmundFraude · 08/11/2013 17:29

Sorry, you're not leading me up that path.

NiceTabard · 08/11/2013 17:25

Who has been proven to be lying? The mother of the young man accused of rape in your link does not say his ex was proven to be lying. Have you read the link and put your own spin on it? Statistically, she was likely to be telling the truth and he got away with it. His mum thinks he didn't do it. Well DUH.

Your links also focus on young women lying about rape. Do you also think men and children lie about rape? Or just women?

JanineStHubbins · 08/11/2013 17:23

There's nothing to suggest that the accuser in that article was 'proven to be lying', Sigmund.

SigmundFraude · 08/11/2013 17:18

'Incidentally, do you think men and children lie about being raped as well, or is this just a female vice?'

What the hell is that supposed to mean? If someone is proven to be lying, then it doesn't really matter who it is.

NiceTabard · 08/11/2013 17:15
Confused

Is the truth too tricky for you?

I skimmed the article.

Why weren't the police involved?
How does his mother know for a fact he didn't do it?
Have you heard of stubenville?

Questions are rhetorical BTW, don't need more links to cases where mothers think their son didn't do it.

Incidentally, do you think men and children lie about being raped as well, or is this just a female vice?

SigmundFraude · 08/11/2013 17:06

'spence the reason that women posting in feminism / women's rights on MN don't like MRAs is that they have unacceptable views of women as venal, selfish creatures who enjoy destroying males at the wave of a hand, and that society & the courts support them in this.'

Now tell him/her the truth....

SigmundFraude · 08/11/2013 17:05

Maybe you should have clicked the link within that paragraph:

"By JUDITH E. GROSSMAN

I am a feminist. I have marched at the barricades, subscribed to Ms. magazine, and knocked on many a door in support of progressive candidates committed to women's rights. Until a month ago, I would have expressed unqualified support for Title IX and for the Violence Against Women Act.

But that was before my son, a senior at a small liberal-arts college in New England, was charged—by an ex-girlfriend—with alleged acts of "nonconsensual sex" that supposedly occurred during the course of their relationship a few years earlier."........................

complete article that you won't read 'cos 'La la la, I can't hear you' etc
