Anybody see this? It was just horrific. I really, really hope it reached the right audience: punters and their defenders. I doubt it, but I hope so Sad

I actually have had sex with a male student who was having suicidal thoughts and seemed dangerously depressed. I think that it helped him considerably

Well, ok, you wanted to do that. Elliot never encountered anyone who wanted to sleep with him. Do think some women should be forced to shag people they don't want to? Are you suggesting some women should be raped because it might stop someone committing a massacre or getting depressed.

Are you SERIOUSLY suggesting that Shock

Women have all the sexual power? Since when?

JuliaKlej · 28/05/2014 12:03

Sabrina, that quote from him shows how little he understood life. It is not the fault of women that they have all the sexual power. These are just the cards we are dealt, and there is little point in men's railing against it, just as there is little point in women's complaining that men do not act sexually like women.

I am beginning to wonder if only gay people are free from issues such as this.

JuliaKlej · 28/05/2014 11:57

Sorry - spelling - I meant to say: "He refers consistently to his

virginity at 22 and the way in which the lack of sex drains enjoyment from all other aspects of life,

including sunsets." I spelled "He" as "her".

JuliaKlej · 28/05/2014 11:54

"IMO his motive wasn't about sex anyway."

That is not how I understand what he is saying in his promotional videos. Her refers consistently to his virginity at 22 and the way in which the lack of sex drains enjoyment from all other aspects of life, including sunsets.

In answer to the question above, I actually have had sex with a male student who was having suicidal thoughts and seemed dangerously depressed. I think that it helped him considerably.

People like Rodgers are not the typical domestic violence type: the latter tend to be the so-called bad boys: who are socially confident and successful with women. One of Rodgers' rants was about this: about the old adage that "100 of wife-beaters are married": - i.e., for every such violent offender, some unfortunate woman has made a terrible choice. This is what horrifies and mystifies the more gentlemanly nice guys who get nowhere with women. They do not understand sexual/relationship selectiveness, and it's very difficult to explain to them.

caxumuveha · 28/05/2014 02:32

"a visit to a prostitute, a mercy shag or a volunteer sexual surrogate would have stopped the killings"

Sexworkers don't have to say yes to every potential client that comes along. And what would happen if one said no to him?

IMO his motive wasn't about sex anyway.

AnyFucker · 28/05/2014 00:21

I wonder why this zombie thread was bumped by a random Hmm

It makes good use of my report button anyway, which has had a disproportionate amount of action this evening

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 28/05/2014 00:15

Women have all the sexual power in heterosexual life.

Would you deny any woman the power to say no to sex with a man? Elliot Rodger would:

"Women should not have the right to choose who to mate and breed with. That decision should be made for them by rational men of intelligence . . . Women have more power in human society than they deserve, all because of sex. There is no creature more evil and depraved than the human female."

Are women just there to calm a man sexually, so that he doesn't mass murder - both the women he desires, and the men that he perceives are having sex with these women?

RamsaySnowsSausage · 27/05/2014 23:31

a visit to a prostitute, a mercy shag or a volunteer sexual surrogate would have stopped the killings

Maybe...but why should women have sex with someone they do not want on the off chance that act would prevent a massacre?

It is not up to women to magically suss out who is likely to do things like this and then give him her body to use.

What the hell?! Why don't you volunteer to give charity shags to violent misogynists?

Do you know you might be able to stop muggings if you deduced who was likely to become a mugger and then went and gave them your money and phone? You wouldn't do that, would you? Not to mention the fact that a woman's body, comfort, safety and right to demand consent is much more valuable than your money or phone.

I can't even believe I'm engaging...you're comments are disgusting.

JuliaKlej · 27/05/2014 23:13

The 85-year-old prostitute? That just shows how desperate men are. Women have all the sexual power in heterosexual life.

If you were referring to Rodgers, a visit to a prostitute, a mercy shag or a volunteer sexual surrogate would have stopped the killings.

vosuji · 27/05/2014 19:58

JuliaKlej and what does that case have to do with sexwork??

85 year old escort who charges £250 an hour.

TBF I worked in several different brothels and none of the owners were like the woman in this programme. She was like that because she could get away with it as her staff were illegal immigrants that totally relied on her and her brothel.

I am against the industry but still, legit british brothels are nothing like this at all, the staff are always on your side and wouldnt dream of treating you like this woman. I sat there open mouthed and I worked in this industry for 3 years. The treatment of staff was because of their illegal status and vulnerability and nothing to do with the sex industry imo.

JuliaKlej · 27/05/2014 03:16

The Elliot Rodger homicides in California, carried out by a 22-year-old virgin, show how deeply young men feel sex-starvation: the fact that it can drive them not only to suicide but to mass murder. In his videos the boy in question also seems to show a sense of entitlement and to take personally the fact that some women go out with ‘slobs’ and ‘gorillas’. The sad irony about this case is that he seemed intelligent enough to take social skills training on board, if only it had been offered.

It's interesting. The red umbrella crew and their fellow shills are always saying "sex work is work".

Yet they don't want the sex industry to have any sort of actual labour analysis, as it would clearly show what an exploitative industry prostitution is, with the consumers (the always invisible men) being the ones with all the power, just as purchasers within an industry generally are.

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 14/11/2013 21:50

Do you deny that demand drives prostitution Minne? Or do you go around ensnaring unsuspecting males with your offer of sexual services?

GoshAnneGorilla · 14/11/2013 21:44

Care to actually counter it minnehaha, or have you just come to throw abuse as usual?

minnehaha · 14/11/2013 21:15

Yet more "anti" propaganda bullshit......

GoshAnneGorilla · 11/11/2013 00:00

Bumping this to post this link: www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-24890952

More trafficking to meet the "demand" for prostitutes.

Beachcomber · 06/11/2013 10:52

How hideous.

I see they have co-opted French feminists' abortion rights history in order to make their point about privileged men wanting a sex class kept available for them to stick their dicks in.

That is sick.

"Everyone should be free to sell their charms" my arse.

What a load of privileged misogynistic wank. Rich men arguing for women to be free to sell their charms. How transparent can you get...

Beachcomber · 06/11/2013 09:15

I find that article confusing. The author seems to want to complain about changes in France by using examples from the UK to make her point.

As usual, I find the argument that attempts to curb prostitution make it dangerous for prostituted women, only reinforce that prostitution is inherently dangerous .

The "hands off my whore" lot sound like a charming bunch. Hmm

I agree that tackling female poverty and job opportunities need to be part of any real attempt to tackle prostitution - yet another notion that reinforces feminist arguments about prostitution (poverty, lack of opportunity, need to provide for children, gendered work market and conditions, etc).

It speaks volumes that the lobbies who argue for women's "right" to sell sex never seem to argue for women's right to fair working conditions in general and for affordable childcare Hmm

They aren't interested in women's rights, they are interested in male entitlement (and using a statement like " hands off my whore" is akin to waving a big red flag with misogynistsRus painted on it).
