Anybody see this? It was just horrific. I really, really hope it reached the right audience: punters and their defenders. I doubt it, but I hope so Sad

What is this obsession with PUA advisors? They are just hands-on social skills trainers. I have seen some at work on TV, and the initially sceptical narrator often turns out surprised when the PUA guys are filmed succeeding in their own right and successfully training others.

HelpmeGeldof · 29/05/2014 08:12

Why did Red use the expression: 'if she would give up...' rather than 'if she gave up...' Is she an American? (An academic one in a lofty ivory tower, I have no doubt.)

HelpmeGeldof · 29/05/2014 08:05

“You are lying, you know you are. Do you really expect the chair of the board of say, Proctor and Gamble, would ever say, "I am going to give all of this up, the big house, the cars, the lobbying power, the obscene amounts of money I make, because I have suddenly discovered that I can go and pull every time I fancy a fuck"?”

Yes. Yes, although in this case, his position may attract enough women already. One of his business development people, who works a 100-hour week, might be more inclined to swop his ‘prestigious’ job for sexual power. As for a male solicitor doing a 65-hour week struggling through commercial leases and having to spend half the day on the phone to difficult clients, I suspect that he might exchange that for sex on tap.

I am not lying: you are the one who is ignorantly and mendaciously pretending to think otherwise.

“Money and power tends to have the added bonus of being able to attract a mate quite happily”

It’s not an added bonus: it’s a central attribute of the money/power. Rock stars get through thousands of women. However, most men’s jobs do not carry this perk. It applies only to the top of the tree.

Lyndon Johnson, who is slowly emerging to history as the most pathologically driven politician of the mid-20th century, said that he ‘had more women by accident than JFK had by trying’. He illustrates the approach of the truly powerful: they have their women on a regular basis during their political rise, and a basic harem is sorted out before they then do what someone mentioned earlier – go after more power (and yet more women) for the sake of it.

CaptChaos · 29/05/2014 07:13

If there were some way of exchanging men’s money, status, political power, educational advantage, etc. for the sexual power and choice that women have, men would do this immediately.

"Obtaining sex seems a bit well bit of a kind of 2nd/3rd class kind of power”

Well, that is a very female view. Men would disagree.

No, they wouldn't. Given the choice between money, cars and actual real power, and being able to get laid when they fancy, all men would choose the former 99.9% of the time. Money and power tends to have the added bonus of being able to attract a mate quite happily, even if the possessor of that money and influence has been caught on camera assaulting his previous partner.

Briar speaks of her ‘disabled fat 50 year-old-friend’ as if this were the bottom of the heap in male eyes, but let us not forget necrophilia: even dead women can ‘pull’.

Ah, so you're on a wind-up. Sorry, for a moment there I thought you actually believed any of the crap you were typing. Necrophilia, even dead women can pull? Is that an actual PUA 'thing'?

“Are you saying that Briar's friend's problem is that she is seeking a relationship and if she would give up on seeking a relationship and concentrate on just sex, she would pull that 20 year old Adonis?”

In situations in which a 20-something gets off with a 50-something, the young lad is usually in it for sex, either once or on an occasional basis. Most 50+ women should know this, but some get more involved than they should and blame the chap for the ensuing disaster. Briar’s ‘friend’ could pull any age group but would be better advised to look closer to her own age for a relationship which actually works.

scallopsrgreat · 28/05/2014 23:19

But the power to obtain sex isn't power Confused. Power gives you some kind of strength or achievement. Something that other people want e.g. money, status, political clout.

Obtaining sex seems a bit well bit of a kind of 2nd/3rd class kind of power i.e. not real power at all in fact.

I'm sorry you didn't understand my excellent post. I'm going to report you for being boring.

BriarRainbowshimmer · 28/05/2014 21:56

That's true Wiesenthal1945 my disabled fat 50 yo friend can go to the pub any day and bring home a romantic sexy 20 yo Adonis of her choice to lick her clit and leave. The problem is making him stop sending expenisve gifts like diamond rings afterwards.

It's her overwhelming female power.

The tragedy is that I probably agree with you people on about 98% of feminist issues, but you have lost your minds on this one.

AnyFucker · 28/05/2014 21:41

Hello again, "Julia" < presses button >

Wiesenthal1945 · 28/05/2014 21:35

No, I told you before - sexual power – the power to obtain sex.

The irony is that men, who do have advantages in the fields of money, status, political power, educational advantage, etc. use all of these in the pursuit of sex. If there were some way of exchanging men’s money, status, political power, educational advantage, etc. for the sexual power and choice that women have, men would do this immediately. The opportunity to swap an 80-hour week and an early heart attack for the ability to obtain sex easily? No contest.

The point is that they can if they want – easily.

AnyFucker · 28/05/2014 20:32

I don't think "Julia" will be able to reply

You don't get told by HQ why you were reported Julia. And you certainly would not have been banned for having a Jewish name. You are lying.

scallopsrgreat · 28/05/2014 19:49

And what does this imagined power consist of then Julia? Money, status, political power?

Your view of this sexual power is also incredibly westernised. Women aren't allowed 'on the pull' in a great deal of the world.

JuliaClay · 28/05/2014 19:42

Someone did not like my Jewish surname and reported me, and I found myself subsequently unable to log on. Before it happens again, I offer the following with an anglicised name:

In reply to RSS, no one was suggesting coercion or anything so ludicrous, merely a bit of compassion to stop someone’s very negative quality of life driving him mad.

“Women have all the sexual power? Since when?”

Ever since the human species or its antecedents began to reproduce sexually.

If one gender is sexually selective (females), the other (male) gender will be at a huge disadvantage. Any woman going out ‘on the pull’ on a Saturday will be guaranteed to find a guy to go home with, indeed will be able to go home with the man of her choice unless he is actually handcuffed to his wife at the time, whereas only the most attractive males even have a chance and still have to work hard for it. The average man, if he ever has a sexual encounter, does so only on rare occasions. Women and men are not even on the same quantum level in terms of sexual power.

PUAs would not exist if women (and the more astute men) were better at giving male friends much-needed social skills advice. Men who need this have been badly let down by their parents in this arena in early childhood and lack social skills, not just with women, but in the workplace, academia and elsewhere.

AnyFucker · 28/05/2014 14:05

You are not a random, honey, you are all over the fucking place a regular Smile ...however not every post is an attack on you, despite your misguided assertion that it is

The thread actually came to a conclusion in Nov '13, was bumped by a random in March (for no particular reason) and bumped again yesterday by a random poster before you (again, for no particular reason)

22honey · 28/05/2014 13:52

'I wonder why this zombie thread was bumped by a random'

If your talking about me, it wasn't a zombie thread as it didn't say so at the bottom and it was on the first page of the Feminism board only yesterday, not even anywhere near the bottom infact.

22honey · 28/05/2014 13:50

'The 85-year-old prostitute? That just shows how desperate men are'

She must be in excellent health, its quite draining work mentally, emotionally and physically.

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 28/05/2014 13:12

Women do not have all the 'sexual power' - that is MRA/PUA talk.
