Shocking. The situation is even worst than originally thought. Sad

Sweden reduced prostitution by a whopping 70% so why doesn't the world follow Sweden's lead and just charge the johns with rape and rescue the women?

Fast, this thread was started by a goady fucker who probably knew full well that was a "politician" statistic.

FastLoris · 12/03/2014 19:41

I don't get why people think that being sensitive to the porblems and horrors of the issue, should mean tolerating bad science and made up pseudo-statistics.

The report was about an off-hand statement by a politician using the term "99%" in the sense of "most", with no evidence or stated basis whatsoever, about a specific prostitution scene in one area. It was that turned into the title for this thread in a way that makes it look like it's a statement of fact not just about that area, but about prostitution in general.

People need to understand that idiotic or cynical misuse of pretend statistics like this WEAKENS the fight against social ills, rather than strengthening it. It makes it look like those supporting that fight are idiots or just inventing a complaint that has no basis in reality. That actually makes it much easier to dismiss the issue itself.

Personally, I think human trafficking is one of the most despicable things that exists, and I'm dismayed that it does still exist in the modern western world. I don't need made up "statistics" that can very quickly be shown to be total BS to believe that, and I can't see how they help.

What Sad

They try to give of a good impression by talking about protecting sex workers blah blah but then they do things like that. They hate women so it's impossible for them not to show their true colours.

GarthsUncle · 11/03/2014 19:33

Given that this particular lower-than-the-dangly-bits-of-a-sausage-dog specimen has just posted his shit on the blog post of someone who was trafficked from Nigeria and repeatedly sexually abused, any time that puff of smoke wants to turn up is fine by me.

I think another email address and name change is on the cards for our foody, newsy, worky pal

Wallison · 03/09/2013 12:30

Sure, they're all just students doing their Masters' degrees who happen to like having sex and getting paid for it. They like the sexual power that they have over men, so the johns are the ones who are really being exploited.

And they'll all go on to marry Richard Gere anyway.

I don't see what the fuss is about.

The term 'trafficking' does not just mean being moved across borders. It can mean being moved within a country or held against your will for the purposes of sexual exploration. I would be very surprised if it is not a very small percentage of prostituted women who have never experienced this at some point.

GoshAnneGorilla · 03/09/2013 12:02

What's wrong with cleaning loos? It's necessary and valuable work that forfills an important need and it is a disgrace that those doing it are not properly remunerated.

Having sex with men is not necessary work - men do not "need" sex.

Also I would rather clean toilets for the rest of my life, then have to have sex with someone I didn't want to and I suspect I'm not alone in this.

Why is it so hard for you to understand that some things are more valuable then money?

Also, why if sex work is so fun and everyone wants to do it, do you trolls get so cross about any women who oppose it? Why act so threatened?

KaseyM · 03/09/2013 11:45

Foodworknews. That's an inaccurate representation of the vast majority of prostitution and you know it.

You also probably know that most feminists have nothing against women who genuinely choose but are concerned for those who have little or no choice.

Even your scenario of escort vs loo cleaner is lacking in real equal choice. Feminists (in my mind) would rather that woman had genuine access to education, better work prospects, decent wages, and working conditions.

Pimps prey on women and girls who have little economic prospects and / or personal problems of self-esteem/abuse/addiction. They know that lack of alternative options and a feeling of vulnerability is a huge factor in entering prostitution. Why don't you?

Boosterseat · 03/09/2013 11:15

Foodworknews - You are a feminist Hmm really?

Or do you just "bump" old prostitution threads? Try Punternet. Might be just up your street........

Yes and don't forget that men can be prostitutes too.

And remember that if you are not an actual prostitute then you a) don't know what you are talking about and b) have no right to comment - except, obviously, this logic does not relate to any men who wish to comment on female prostitution or, for that matter, anything to do with women.

Sausageeggbacon · 02/09/2013 09:50

Maybe someone should mention the thousands of pounds pumped into the met for the olympics and the number of trafficked victims found then.

foodworknews · 02/09/2013 01:58
