It is dead.

Thank you, Wendy Davis. We shall always remember the day you stood for women, not only in Texas. You sent a message to the world that women will not sit and allow legislation be passed that affects our lives.

Thanks Wendy.

Bbc is rather analogue isn't it now? Every thing else is digital..... They are so slow.......!

Hassled · 26/06/2013 09:33

I have a Grin etched on my face.

squeaver · 26/06/2013 09:31

The BBC is just being slow. This is from the Texas Tribune guys who are actually there:

Without recognizing Sen. John Whitmire, D-Houston, for a motion to adjourn Sine Die, Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst stepped down from the dais after ruling that time had expired on SB 5, telling the senators, "It's been fun, but, um, see ya soon."
He then told reporters that "An unruly mob using Occupy Wall Street tactics" derailed legislation that was designed to protect women and babies.
He said he was "very frustrated."
"I didn't lose control of what we were doing," he told reporters. "We had an unruly mob."

MrsLyman · 26/06/2013 09:30

Wow, this is amazing despite her opposition lying and cheating to get their way, she did it.

Thank you for starting this thread mmelindor, I'm really glad I found out about this.

GrumpyKat · 26/06/2013 09:25

I forgot to send you Thanks

LizTerrine · 26/06/2013 09:24

I'm confused - the bbc is still reporting that the bill was passed...?

GrumpyKat · 26/06/2013 09:23

Wendy Davis, we salute you.
As a woman who would have had to make the journey upstate to receive care at the very vulnerable age of 17 I would like to thank you for protecting the interests of other women like myself.

You deserve to go down in history for what you have achieved today, you are a truly remarkable woman.

mignonette · 26/06/2013 09:20

BBC Red Button is reporting that the bill has passed. Am aware that this may be inaccurate but what if it is not? Angry

Dackyduddles · 26/06/2013 09:18

Mrs, if someone who saw it cared then yes probably it would come out. Wouldn't like to bet on chances maybe, but I'm always optimistic!

LtEveDallas · 26/06/2013 09:16

Fantastic.

Wendy Davis is an amazing woman who should go down in history for this monumental achievement.

I am in awe of her. Wendy Davis salute you (seriously, just stood up an saluted my PC screen...my co-workers think I am mad Grin)

Thank you Wendy Thanks

MrsGeologist · 26/06/2013 09:14

I hope heads roll for the bastards who tried to make it look like the vote was valid. It's a dirty, scummy trick, and totally undemocratic.

If it weren't for social media, do you think the tampering would have even been noticed?

MarinaIvy · 26/06/2013 09:14

Haven't read the whole thred, but just pondering: wouldn't somebody need a Stadium Buddy for this kind of thing?

13 hours without a loo break! Sheesh.

TunipTheVegedude · 26/06/2013 09:11

OMG!
I just sent dd to school having ranted about the dirty double-crossing Texans doing the vote anyway. Does that mean it is all ok?

tribpot · 26/06/2013 09:09

Beeb breaking news Twitter feed reports AP news that deadline was "actually missed". Eh, not following this story very closely, are you BBC?

Hassled · 26/06/2013 09:09

I'm watching youtube clips and well - I don't know, something in my eye possibly.

And it worked :o :o.

Dackyduddles · 26/06/2013 09:03

I cannot remember a day where I was moved to tears by news that was not either a bomb or a child murder. This is truly moving and awe inspiring. I love the feeling of watching history unfold. This will be remembered.

Go girl!

Hassled · 26/06/2013 09:00

What a complete star Wendy Davis is. I think I love her.

I am really really confused - BBC fairly emphatic is saying it has passed, but that story was last updated at 8.11.

squeaver · 26/06/2013 08:58

Emerging from a Senate caucus meeting, state Sen. John Whitmire, D-Houston, said the legislators decided that the after midnight vote on SB 5 was invalid.
"There was not a valid vote," he said.
Now, the senators are coming back into the Senate chamber, where we expect a formal ruling on the final disposition of the bill.

This is from the Texas Tribune live blog.

GibberTheMonkey · 26/06/2013 08:56

I thought you were saying Wendy Davis was more corrupt there for a minute. Shock

Well not seen anything official but the reading out of Wendy's text etc seem legit enough Grin

Tee2072 · 26/06/2013 08:51

Republicans in general, mignonette.

mignonette · 26/06/2013 08:50

Is there anything more corrupt than some Texan Republicans?

Answers on a postcard.

Tee2072 · 26/06/2013 08:49

Yup. AP just Tweeted:

BREAKING: Texas lt. gov. reverses himself, declares vote on tough abortion bill came too late to pass.

MrsGeologist · 26/06/2013 08:49

Fucking yes!
The time stamp thing is very sick making though.

Tee2072 · 26/06/2013 08:45

Reports of Senators returning to floor to announce vote has been overturned.
