Absolutely fluffy.

fluffymindy · 16/05/2013 09:13

Being a SAHM is a valid choice. It s an important job and should not be seen as less valuable than having a career....

The women who replied 'yes', were then asked if they felt pressure from other women to be independent and 74 per cent confessed they did.

Is this your idea of feminism? Feeling pressured by other women? Nice and if it is the case yes, they did burn their bras for nothing

Grin Grin

I thought it was about whether or not feminists burnt their bras for nothing?

And then someone else raised an interesting point about the reliability of DM journalism / the original survey which I was trying to extend.

No ones ever told me to fuck off quite so eloquently before, I rather like it Grin

HoneyDragon · 16/05/2013 09:12

Not clicked the link, but if its the survey I'm thinking of the gist was would you rather be a Sahm than work. Which IMO is a different kettle of fish entirely Grin.

If it is the one it annoyed me as the SAHP aspect was gender bias to mothers and the wording inferred if you had the funds would you stay at home.

I personally would volunteer to walk round with cock womble written in my forehead if it meant I was magically set financially so I could bunk off work for the foreseeable future. Wink

Oh, and welcome to Mumsnet, by the way.

BIWI · 16/05/2013 09:11

I doubt very much that it will be a properly conducted piece of market research, and I'm certainly not going to go through to the Daily Mail to check.

If you'd like us to debate the issues properly, and as you've already read the article, perhaps you could let us know:

  • who conducted the survey? (i.e. was it a market research agency or just a survey monkey piece done by the fashion website)
  • how many respondents took part?
  • how was the sample constructed - was it a nationally representative sample?

Then we can talk.

Fairylea · 16/05/2013 09:08

The point is that we now have a choice.

Choosing to be a sahm or person at home is absolutely fine and a valid choice (and one that I myself have made over a highly paid career).

But the point is it is a choice. Not one that is forced upon anyone anymore either by men or social expectations.

debssm · 16/05/2013 09:07

then you may excuse yourself from the thread as the thread is about the article

On the DM? No thanks.

debssm · 16/05/2013 09:04

read the article

How big was the sample? How were the respondents found?

Picturepuncture · 16/05/2013 09:00

I'm not sure that that makes it more reliable!

debssm · 16/05/2013 08:59

you might not like the DM but the poll was conducted by fashion website mycelebrityfashion.co.uk,

Urgh and I've just read it further.

Being a SAHM is not being financially dependant on your husband, it just means that one of you is doing the childcare (which you would otherwise pay £££ for).

ifancyashandy · 16/05/2013 08:35

It's the Mail which means a) am not clicking and b) well, like duh! It's the Mail, they would say that Grin!

Not casting aspersions on you, but most definitely am on DM.

TwoFourSixOhOne · 16/05/2013 08:35

What a ridiculous article.

If they'd asked only SAHM's, the majority would have answered that they'd 'secretly' rather go out to work.

Betcha.

The grass is greener and all that.
