Isn't the name of Mumsnet itself sexist?

The Mumsnet slogan is 'By parents for parents', suggesting that it is of course, for mothers and fathers. Yet the name Mumsnet would suggest otherwise. It suggests that the forum is only for women, which in turn conveys the idea that women do more parenting than men.

To be honest, it doesn't irk me that much, but it was just a thought I randomly had, and was wondering other opinions on it.

Bye.

Again.

ErrolTheDragon · 06/12/2020 12:42

My alternative name was massively (perhaps excessively) constructive.

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 06/12/2020 12:31

I thought youd gone already papple

Bye

Have a lovely Christmas 🎄

Pappleapple · 06/12/2020 12:27

Toxic people with nothing constructive or intelligent to say. I get it. Bye

ErrolTheDragon · 06/12/2020 12:03

What title can we come up with which conveys the nature of MN vs other websites more inclusively? As explained, 'parentsnet' doesn't work either.

It might have to be something like:
'AnyoneWhoCanPostWithinGuidelinesWhilstAcceptingThatWeirdlyEnough,WomenWithKidsAreTheMostCommonTypeOfMemberNet '

@Datun

Toxic. Can anyone on here communicate without anger and passive aggressiveness

Certainly not. Now you're discriminating against people who want to fume in a very submissive manner. Staggering bigotry.

Now this is the sort of content that kept me on Mumsnet long after I was done with pureeing vegetable combos for my babies.
RedDogsBeg · 06/12/2020 11:57

Very much a damp squib, didn't even come in with a bang and then fizzle out, very disappointing. Oh no! Am I being too passive aggressive?? Onto the naughty step for me.

Quick out of the blocks, boinged about a bit and then fell in the soup. All very Total Wipeout.

DrDavidBanner · 06/12/2020 11:34

Toxic pool of angry and ignorant people 😕. Wait till this guy discovers Twitter!

RedDogsBeg · 06/12/2020 11:26

Yes,Medusa it was a very poor effort wasn't it. So many unanswered questions, so many opportunities to lay out the facts and figures and just nothing. No explanation as to why the name Mumsnet is so offensive to the poor wee poster, the fact that this site is very inclusive of all manner of people and opinions just didn't seem to register, a site called Parentsnet would exclude a whole load of the people who post here, but yay! inclusiveness.

MedusasBadHairDay · 06/12/2020 10:32

@Pappleapple

Toxic. Can anyone on here communicate without anger and passive aggressiveness. Maybe a “parents net” is the way forward and this toxic pool of angry and seemingly ignorant people can just stay here. I can’t imagine the negative influence some people on here have on children. Keep your toxic “mumsnet” ill stay with my friends who know what inclusivity and teamwork are.
Aww did we not fawn enough, were you expecting us to all be in awe of your "superior" debating skills? Sweetheart, you are small fry. Please try harder.
RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 06/12/2020 10:26

you lot have been playing with your dinner again haven't you?

😀

I’m not angry...I’m just disappointed 🥺

(Complete bollocks...my mum would never say that, she loved me dearly but fuck me she had a dreadful temper!)

ErrolTheDragon · 06/12/2020 10:22

@EyesOpening

I’m off to tell Pistonheads they’re not welcoming me because I want to talk about knitting, I mean they’re just being exclusive really, aren’t they?
They're certainly discriminating against people with all-electric vehicles. Shock
BernardBlackMissesLangCleg · 06/12/2020 10:19

End of conversation

Grin

and thus mumsnet disappeared in a puff of smoke

Great idea. Let's do it. You crack on with ParentsNet and we'll all stay here - everyone's happy.
BettyDuKeiraBellisMyShero · 06/12/2020 09:56

‘Inclusivity and teamwork’ sounds like a slogan from some kind of insufferable HR training programme.

Perhaps the new site could be called ‘PowerPoint Parenting’?

CatsCantCatchCriminals2 · 06/12/2020 09:51

See you in another life, brotha..

InterfectoremVulpes · 06/12/2020 09:27

Maybe there should be a new acronym for people who dig up zombie threads? Rather than 'Original Poster' they're an 'Unoriginal Poster' - UP. Though that could apply to quite a lot of people who start yet another thread on a well-worn theme.

CatsCantCatchCriminals2 · 06/12/2020 08:51

It's perfectly possible that OP has passed on.

imhereforthesanity · 06/12/2020 08:35

Jeez, I'm on here and I haven't even got children, the gall of it 😂 get a life OP, mums post, dads post, childless and singles too - I've never felt excluded just cos I'm not a mum!
