Apologies if this has already been posted. The opening song is draw-droppingly disrespectful. I don't know what they were thinking.

It's impossible to achieve ironic racism and misogyny when both are clearly in existence.

Here is the demographic for the Academy Award panel - yes, white, male, a median age of 62. here

pofacedplot · 25/02/2013 16:11

PuffPants is right. It was a pre-recorded segment with the actresses in on the 'joke'. My problem is with Macfarlane's permit to make misogynous and racist jokes under the umbrella of irony.

I still don't see how it's funny, unless you think sexism is funny.

"They were in on the joke"

But only three of them it seems? And since when is asking women to be complicit in their own degradation an acceptable thing?

It was a separate event, but overall showing the sexism and racism with an Academy that backed it all and is known to be 96% white and 77% male.

thezebrawearspurple · 25/02/2013 15:56

They were in on the joke, if they had a problem with anyone noticing their boobs I doubt they'd be showing them bare on film to millions of people they've never met. The song was funny, it was a piss take, people are so desperate to get offended at the mildest things, often on behalf of people who aren't remotely offended.

PuffPants · 25/02/2013 15:43

The joke about the little girl was a separate item. And I agree it was immensely inappropriate.

PuffPants · 25/02/2013 15:43

Are you disputing the fact that they are clearly wearing different outfits? I'm sure they were ok with it.

Personally I agree it's tasteless but there's no need to be outraged on their behalf - I think women in Hollywood are fully on board with the inherent sexism.

BigSpork · 25/02/2013 15:42

I'm pretty sure Quvenzhané and her family weren't in on her being treated like a sex object. I'm sure her mother didn't expect her 9 year old child and her sister to have to sit through that.

So of all women mentioned, only three decided to be 'in' on the joke?

Being pre-recorded doesn't alter the fact that it's sexist and an attempt to diminish Hollywood women's talents by focusing on their 'boobs'.

Sit not DIY Confused

scaevola · 25/02/2013 15:32

Perhaps verse two should have been "we've seen your bum" (was Richard Gere in the audience?)

PuffPants · 25/02/2013 15:32

Fgs - it was a pre-recorded segment! They were in on the "joke" - they are actors! Their role was to DIY there looking like thunder.

2blessed2bstressed · 25/02/2013 15:28

Nope, sorry zebra didn't look to me like they thought it was funny at all.

PuffPants · 25/02/2013 15:27

The boob song was pre-recorded. The women in the cutaway shots are not dressed as they were last night. And they are "acting" unimpressed.

The guy next to Naomi Watts looked straight at her chest when her name was mentioned.

So leery and childish and nasty. Not funny at all.

Jeez, talk about poor taste! Terrible! Neither actress in the awkward close ups looked impressed. Puerile sexist humour. Pathetic
Oh and I'm generally not an uptight or easily offended person, but this offended me. Angry

thezebrawearspurple · 25/02/2013 15:17

They were thinking it was funny, which it was, I loved the boob songGrin
