"Girls are like apples on trees. The best ones are at the top of the tree. The boys don't want to reach for the good ones because they are afraid of falling and getting hurt. Instead, they just get the rotten apples from the ground that aren't as good, but easy. So the apples at the top think something is wrong with them, when in reality, they're amazing. They just have to wait for the right boy to come along, the one who's brave enough to climb all the way to the top of the tree"

words bloody fail me. this was posted by a woman. Sad

Jesus, I must be rotten and easy. I met DH at 20 Confused.

What an awful analogy in so, so many ways.

namechangeguy · 29/10/2012 15:19

Facebook is a magnet for vacuous, self-absorbed look-at-me types, who love 'drinking vino with the girleez', declaring to the world how much they love their offspring and who they are voting for on Britain's Got the X-Factor on Ice. What do you honestly expect to read on there other than mindless drivel?

grimbletart · 29/10/2012 12:58

Facebook is a seriously naff place.

Strawhatpirate · 29/10/2012 12:52

This was on the fb of an adult you say? It sounds like an aesops fable for fuckwits.

BoerWarKids · 29/10/2012 12:40

I'm on Pinterest and someone I follow has pinned these gems;

Act like a Lady...Think Like a Boss

Your clothes should be tight enough to show you're a woman, but loose enough to show you're a lady

Treat your body like a temple, not a playground

Dear Girls, dressing immodestly is like rolling around in manure. Yes, you'll get attention, but mostly from pigs. Sincerely, Real Men

That last one is seriously vile. So much slut-shaming fuckery on Pinterest.

She has repinned some stuff from my Feminism board though Wink

Woozley · 25/10/2012 12:38

Tell her the ripest apples get picked first. Some apples get left on the tree and never ripen, but just go rotten and get eaten, slowly, from the inside out by worms. Such rubbish deserves a rubbish response.

Feckbox · 24/10/2012 23:07

Yes Boer, she is highly educated. One of my worst FB offenders for peddling this sort of shite is a doctor on Harley Street

BoerWarKids · 24/10/2012 11:50

This quote is very popular unfortunately. Many educated women I know have it on their facebook profile. It's revolting [hsad]

OneMoreChap · 22/10/2012 16:59

Sound like some poor sex-shamed woman.
"Keep you hand on your ha-penny, or no man will want you..."

Yuk,yuk, yuk.

never really seen where the crap about it being OK for lads to "sow their wild oats" while women were "sluts" came from.

I've been eternally grateful for the experienced young woman who patiently ensured my competence. My kids DS and DD were told to ensure that their partners enjoyed it, and ensured that they did to. Fortunately, I've never heard any details, although they both seem to attract nice young people and stick with them for a reasonable time.

talkingnonsense · 22/10/2012 15:51

Could she be trying to cheer up a boyfriend less teenager?

blackcurrants · 22/10/2012 15:48

I've never hung out in an Orchard looking fresh ... and now i feel like I've missed out. I did once proposition DH in a sheep barn, though ... is that the kind of thing she means?

Grin aaah, romantic Yorkshire courting days!

[goes misty eyed
[cross eyed]
[gives up]

Seriously, this kind of drivel is so annoying. I was one of the first in my gang of friends to get married, and whenever someone said "how on earth did you find him?" I would very seriously say "well, we met online, and it was really just a sex thing at first..." and watch their heads explode. Grin

Waiting to be picked? Bleurhghgghghghghgh! If we spent as much time inculcating health self-esteem and a large dose of 'fuck your bullshit moral standards, it's my body and I'll do as I please' as we did shaming women for being sexual/frightening women that no one will want them, we'd actually give ourselves a chance at happiness.

TotoroOnTheCatBus · 22/10/2012 13:46

This does seem the sort of shit you'd expect from a 14 year old with low self esteem..not an adult woman Confused

MoleyMick · 22/10/2012 03:51

I've seen this one, also was Confused at the thought of waiting to be "picked" but also at the insinuation that those who are in relationships are easy and rotten!! Such an odd analogy on many levels.

stinimefdar · 22/10/2012 03:23

Some women remain for ever the foot soldiers of the patriarchy and participate in their own denigration and then pass it onto the next generation of young women.........grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Feckbox · 21/10/2012 00:41

not sure whether she feels she held out for a "brave boy" or is an easy rotten apple

OP posts:
Sagelyhaunting · 21/10/2012 00:39

Grin Tiggy! "Seeks male with claw like device and good apple-catching skills"

I also assumed she was single.

Feckbox · 21/10/2012 00:21

she is married, no kids, happy Confused

OP posts:
TiggyD · 21/10/2012 00:09

She will probably join a dating site with the title "High up apple seeks picker with ladder or some kind of device on a long pole."

Let me guess - she is broody and desperate to find 'the one'?

Feckbox · 21/10/2012 00:04

yes, she was quoting some one else .
worse I think.
Means there is a chain of people peddling shite

OP posts:
EduCated · 20/10/2012 23:53

I've heard it before, so presume she didn't make it up. Feel free to add the rat into the mix. It was a daft sod, never worked out that it could've have chewed through more than one apple at a time to save running up and down the tree so much.

We never saw it again after my DM chased it down the garden Sad

Feckbox · 20/10/2012 23:51

utter shite exactly. And so many people agreeing.
I despair.
