This is absolutely appalling. Even worse, they are not telling GPs that they are choosing not to offer vaccination :(

Grauniad article

I doubt very much this is a Christian issue: if it were, then it would be about 20%+ of schools, not

SardineQueen · 24/07/2012 17:59

To get this straight
The school have opted out of this program on the basis that their girls will be vigins until the marry, and will then marry someone from inside the community who they hope is a virgin too
the school have not informed anyone so as to allow those students and parents who want the vaccine, the opportunity to have it
As far as they are aware this vaccine will protect against HPV, and they really don't want their girls having it because they are sure that they will remain sexually pure until it is deemed by their religion that they may have intercourse - and more or less with who

Many posters on this thread think this is fine and reasonable.
What country are we in? It wouldn't be out of place in saudi.

Accuracyrequired · 24/07/2012 17:57

Yes - millions more women are affected by the vaccine roll-out than by this piddling little story (which is just PR, by the way, did I mention that).

Would you disagree? How on earth would you like to disagree? Is there some invisible mention of FGM and wife-beating in there undetectable to the human eye?

Insulting much? "fired up with big pharma rage" whatever you said?

Why don't you inform yourself a little more Sardine. You are woefully informed at the moment as you've admitted. You still don't seem away that you've been taken for a sucker in a pro-vaccine stunt. "Let's get the feminists onside who don't know much about it and make it a human rights issue!" That was a real score.

SardineQueen · 24/07/2012 17:56

accuracy you were the one who called the impact of religion on women and girls "minor" which is quite shockingly ignorant.

Open a newspaper why don't you. Oh i forgot they're full of lies Hmm

SardineQueen · 24/07/2012 17:54

You people think this reason "pupils follow strict Christian principles, marry within their own community and do not practise sex outside marriage" makes it OK for a school to opt out of national programs and not tell anyone.

I think it is disgraceful.
Who knows what else they are doing. I mean seriously. But none of you give a monkeys do you. FFS.

Accuracyrequired · 24/07/2012 17:53

Yknow Sardine you did say something right.

"For FUCKS sake some people are just such small minded ignoramuses".

They sure are.

SardineQueen · 24/07/2012 17:52

So basically the people on here are so fired up in their big pharma nhs conspiracy rage that they are saying it is OK for UK schools to opt out of national programs and not tell anyone.

That is a bizarre viewpoint.

And YES accuracy you said this "And just to put the lid on it - millions MORE women and girls than are being affected by this piddling religious nonsense."

"You think the way women and girls are treated due to "religious nonsense" is MINOR?"

Actually? You must be desperate.

Because I say the numbers of girls affected (or not) by this are piddling - compared to the millions of women who have this medical intervention without full information or with misleading information - I therefore think FGM is a minor issue?

You must truly be desperate if you are resorting to that argument.

I'm afraid it's you that's prepared to sacrifice the health of girls, as you'd know if you'd read the posts. But you just don't WANT to know, as you've admitted.

You don't to read that well known anti-feminist and anti-vaccinator Hmm Dr Diane Harper on HPV vaccine. You don't want to know about the detail and the failure of the safety studies. You just don't WANT to know. And this affects just about every girl in Britain except the ones in these schools. And you don't care.

SardineQueen · 24/07/2012 17:29

It seems that the religious people are prepared to sacrifice the health of girls to prove a point
And so are the anti-vax types.

The POINT IS schools should not be allowed to OPT OUT of national programs and not tell anyone. The fact that so many think this is FINE is really worrying.

SardineQueen · 24/07/2012 17:28

"prohibiting the vaccine on the grounds of one partner for life, monogomous relationships. "

But not all of the girls will go on to have those relationships.
Even if they do, not all of the girls partners will also be virgins.
the school is making a decision based on how they want their pupils to behave and if they don't then fuck em.
Because it's to do with sex.

I can't believe that so many people think it is fine for this to happen.

MsAnnTeak · 24/07/2012 17:24

"pupils follow strict Christian principles, marry within their own community and do not practise sex outside marriage".

I think this is secondary to the emerging facts this vaccine is proving problematic. By your own admission you can't be arsed to read the links. OK. Big pharma, run by men in a patriarchy dumping potentially harmful vaccines onto our young females and you don't have the desire to delve further. OK
Not a feminist issue. OK

Had I not found the facts I have I'd be only too happy to give an opinion on prohibiting the vaccine on the grounds of one partner for life, monogomous relationships.

Talk about "God knows what else they are doing at these schools - what they are teaching them about sex, relationships, contraception, abortion. " and I'll be happy to offer something if I can.

SardineQueen · 24/07/2012 17:23
Shock

You think the way women and girls are treated due to "religious nonsense" is MINOR?

FGM
Contraception
Abortion
Being married off young
Being killed for stepping out of line
Not being allowed to vote
Not being educated
and a million other things every single day to millions and millions of females

For FUCKS sake some people are just such small minded ignoramuses

SardineQueen · 24/07/2012 17:21

I have plenty of idea as I have read many threads with many of these posters on and I know what their views are.

Basically people are saying that it is OK for schools to opt out of national programs on religious grounds and not tell anyone they are doing so. Fabbo.

Accuracyrequired · 24/07/2012 17:20

And just to put the lid on it - millions MORE women and girls than are being affected by this piddling religious nonsense.

Accuracyrequired · 24/07/2012 17:14

You have no idea if we're "anti-vaccine" or not - you have no idea what we've said.

This is a feminist issue because women and girls are being fed misinformation about the safety and efficacy of a risky medical intervention.

Where's the feminist in you now? Plainly compared to sex, this isn't half so interesting.

SardineQueen · 24/07/2012 17:11

The schools have not opted out because they have concerns about the vaccine.

They have opted out because ""pupils follow strict Christian principles, marry within their own community and do not practise sex outside marriage".

That is a feminist issue and I'm a bit narked that a bunch of anti-vaccine people can't let it go just one time so that people in the feminism section can actually talk about this feminist issue.

God knows what else they are doing at these schools - what they are teaching them about sex, relationships, contraception, abortion.

But no we don't want to talk about those things do we Hmm

Accuracyrequired · 24/07/2012 17:06

You haven't read them? Ain't that typical. Hands over eyes, fingers in ears and la la la.

"And on the feminism section too."

Some of us (well me) think you've got quite the wrong end of this from a feminist point of view. The feminist issue here is women and girls being denied information about the safety and efficacy of this vaccine, and being put at risk.

You are defending big fat corporation money over damaged women and girls and you have bought, hook, line and sinker a big PR line about it.

The religious issue is a mere red herring compared to this scandal which you can't even be bothered to read about because you're so obsessed with sex.

SardineQueen · 24/07/2012 16:54

"Female pupils not being offered potentially life-saving vaccine at schools that oppose premarital sex"

This is what the thread was to talk about.
Seems a lot of people don't really give a monkeys about this aspect. And on the feminism section too.

SardineQueen · 24/07/2012 16:52

I haven't even bothered reading the "arguments".

I am interested in the fact that a national program related to health is being opted out of by entire schools on the basis that it is related to sex and that does not tie in with their religious beliefs. And in such a way that parents / children who would want to opt in are not even aware of it, so they do not know to do so.

You have to wonder what else is going on in these schools. When I was young misinformation and propaganda related to sex was the order of the day in local religious schools. One hopes stuff like that has changed but this decision shows that it has not.

MsAnnTeak · 24/07/2012 16:38

Without this post I probably wouldn't have given the vaccine a 2nd thought. However, knowledge is power and thus feel armed with accurate information enable my DDs to make informed decisons which impact on the wellbeing of my GDs, and those around me who will be making the choice on behalf of their female children.

SardineQueen, how did you want this thread to evolve?

Accuracyrequired · 24/07/2012 16:36

SardineQueen: here's the story: mumsnet swallows whole a PR strand about how girls are being refused access (except they're not) to a vaccine with dodgy safety trials and unproven efficacy. Hold the front page.

Do carry on talking about it, nobody's stopping you. But some of you seem strangely reluctant to discuss points raised. And there is still the question of why feminists have taken to defending the powerful, rather than the powerless.

It's not really our problem if you don't have a leg to stand on.

Piglet, you're reading every word and you have NOTHING in response.

PigletJohn · 24/07/2012 16:20

they haven't noticed yet that everybody else has gone.

SardineQueen · 24/07/2012 15:59

Oh god how boring.
The story is that some schools are opting out of a national health program administered in schools on religious grounds. And due to the way it is happening the girls are not being vaccinated even if they / their parents would have wanted it.
But we can't talk about , oh no. Because the anti-vax crew are here.
Great Hmm
