Isn't it just the case that it's nearly impossible to achieve huge memorable changes in the world without being a bit of an arsehole? You've got to have a massive ego to think you can take on such a challenge, and so it's really not that surprising that pretty much everyone who achieved massive changes for the good turns out to have been a bit of a sod round the house and have various other unattractive traits.

Nether breast implants nor anti-wrinkle injections leave the victim crippled.

SiliBiliMili · 12/07/2012 14:06

Bound feet are comparable to big breast or Botox. No? Remember it was/is only the rich who could afford these.

TeiTetua · 12/07/2012 14:02

China has periodically claimed Tibet over the centuries, but until recently they never had the power to grab it. And of course, female infanticide was a long tradition (and the feet! think of the feet!)

Look at the renaissance, gorgeous art, large-scale war and small-scale murder, and the Inquisition hard at work. Ah, happy days.

SiliBiliMili · 12/07/2012 11:36

If you really want to help humanity, (and
Women Hmm), stop making wars. It's
Only when people relax and are not worried about being attacked they concentrate on beauty, morality, human right etc. look at Chinese are during the tang and Ming dynasties, look at Egyptian achievements, look at the Budhist Jain and Hindu temples of India. Look at the renaissance.

SiliBiliMili · 12/07/2012 11:13

whatmeworry, they had bigger double 'skinned' boats. They had enough to attack India/Nepal etc. they did not even need boats. They could have attacked at the borders like the Greeks tried (Alexander the greats army) on the borders of what is now Pakistan/Afghanistan.

My theory is that they were largely living in harmony. Like the people of Egypt.
They were already trading with India and other countries using the silk route.

Whatmeworry · 12/07/2012 11:03

they could have tried like ghengis khan and his descendants did, like the moguls did. The difference I say again is that there was NOTHING to be gained by trying to get into Europe. The weather, the poverty, the uncivilised natives

No, but India and Persia were good pickings - however they couldn't do with a huge armada what the Portuguese did 50 years later with a few tiny boats....with guns.

SiliBiliMili · 12/07/2012 10:41

Feminist here really want to 'help' the unfortunate families of Asia (the girl baby killers)? Instead of reading a few unbalance articles in the press, and feeling indignant or smug and passing what may be construed as borderline racist or illiterate and judgmental comments on a website, please do the following:

  1. Look at your own country, and see if you can do something about the glass ceiling.
  2. See if you can do something about the inherent racist culture that exists here. Once these people have human rights, then you can jump on your pink girly bandwagon.
  3. Try and solve the binge drinking culture as it really is not helping our reputation and youths.
  4. Try and solve the young age pregnancy issues. All the east thinks that girls here start having sex and babies at 10!!! Yes, the east reads your news papers too but does not come to judge you or preach to you because it is busy concentrating on its own problems. (unlike you)

My final point. The only countries that have used nuclear weapons are western. Surprise surprise. Even though china, Korea, and India have had these for years too. Where is the western 'morality' then? Please do not call all Asians misogynistic and we won't call you racist.

SiliBiliMili · 12/07/2012 10:07

My point? I think the 'west' needs to look at its history and look at other countries histories to figure out where they stand in the grand scheme of things. Not be judgemental and take the moral high ground. The west still has a long way to go to reach the 'civilised' status most countries have already achieved.

SiliBiliMili · 12/07/2012 09:45

Remember too that America was founded on anti British/English principles. The world really does not like the British very much. The British seem to have selective memory. Close to home, look as how the English treated/treat the Irish!

SiliBiliMili · 12/07/2012 09:41

whatmeworry, I disagree. Grin as they could have tried like ghengis khan and his descendants did, like the moguls did. The difference I say again is that there was NOTHING to be gained by trying to get into Europe. The weather, Grin, the poverty, the uncivilised natives.

No, they did have weapons good enough to colonise. Remember that the Europeans/the west was still an un organised and un-civilised society when the Chinese were building large pagodas to rival the Gherkin in London 1000/2000 years ago. Remember the Egyptians had boats, men, supirior 'technology'. The fact is that there was nothing to be gained by invading the cave dwelling backward Europe

Au contraire, the Chinese had the rich Persians and Indians on their borders, well worth plundering if they could - but with even such humongous naval power they hardly impacted the strategic map.

50 years later, tiny numbers of tiny Portuguese ships came all the way around the world and blew all these countries' ships out the water, set up colonies and extracted trading concessions throughout the East.

That is the difference....

Whatmeworry · 12/07/2012 09:20

In societies with too many women, the theory holds, fewer people marry, and those who do marry do so later in life. Because men take advantage of the variety of potential partners available to them, women?s traditional roles are not valued, and because these women can?t rely on their partners to stick around, more turn to extrafamilial ambitions like education and career.

...and there you have The Roaring Twenties in a nutshell.

SiliBiliMili · 11/07/2012 20:52

messy I really like your post. See, the laws are there in these countries. It's the culture that needs to change and abide by these laws.
Culturally, Girls are given their dowry when they marry. In those days, the gold they were given cost almost as much as a house so it worked out that the boys will then inherit the house/property. Of course, the husband of the girl would also then inherit his parents home. This worked out very well until house prices started going crazy or one married above or below their 'status'. The fairest system of course is to abolish dowry and use the inheritance laws. Dowry btw is called a wedding gift now as i believe it is illegal to give a 'dowry' or ask for one.

MrGin · 11/07/2012 19:11
