Would you be upset if your OH went on a website showing pictures of women's breasts?

And then linked it on an internet forum so everyone else can admire them?

Because (and I know it's bad form to link to other MN threads) there is a thread elsewhere on this site linking to men's penises and everyone is rating them.

Difference if men did it? Or am I just being prudish?

well, molly you clearly like to look at penises and your a woman so i'm not going to argue with you.
what makes one penis nice and one not? does circumcision help? i'm just curious, not taking the piss.

ann yes i see what you mean now, it is unfair how differently girls are treated in this regard.

Chairman, promiscious females are often labelled sluts, tarts, whores. Hardly something most parents would be proud of. Males sleep with numerous females and it's just him 'sowing his wild oats', accepted as part of masculinity.

Obviously in the days before contraception and proof of paternity, a male would want to ensure his children were actually his own. The parents of the female would not want the burden of looking after another child without the resources of the male who impregnated their daughter. No doubts this went some way to supressing the activities of females.

Bluegrass, I've read studies on tribes where children openly fondle each other and is a normal part of their childhood. Adults do nothing to intervene and there was no mention of incest or child sexual abuse. We'd more than likely be horrified to find children behaving in such a manner. This is just one I remember from the top of my head but lots of other interesting reading out there. From this you could conclude it is conditioning which is the determining factor.

It often seems that in most threads about bodies the general trend seems to be that penises look ridiculous and women's bodies are "objectively" more attractive. It would be interesting to know to what extent that is a learned response. How much of the ridicule response stems from discomfort or embarrassment? How much is learned from the different ways that media portray men's and women's bodies? How do reactions to nudity (both women's and men's) vary from culture to culture (not just the public display of the socially correct response, but perhaps genuine feelings if those are different). Interesting stuff to think about (just as I head off to work)!.

Enim - In terms of are you being prudish? I hate the word prude. It is a judging word used mainly against women. If you feel uncomfortable or unhappy with something, thats fine. Others may think your opinion is wrong or right, but it never makes you a prude.

Personally - I am not keen on reducing anyone to body parts like this. It is disrespectful at a basic level. But because of the power imbalance in our society I think there is a difference between judging men and women's body parts.

molly3478 · 19/06/2012 07:40

women arent affecyed by penises in same way.Of course they are but it obviously depends on how nice the penis is.

thechairmanmeow · 19/06/2012 07:33

in regards to what exactly molly?

molly3478 · 19/06/2012 07:30

sorry i mean your posts on pg 1

molly3478 · 19/06/2012 07:29

Also having read this chairman what on earth are you on about? Confused

molly3478 · 19/06/2012 07:23

Wouldnt care at all. Also Im female of course Im very attracted to penises just like them much more erect and some of those are not nice to look at on that gallery

AuntLucyInPeru · 19/06/2012 07:11

Aside from the general bunfight going on with the chairman, I do agree that saunas are great for giving perspective to body image. I used to sauna in my gym in Sweden a couple of times a week, where nudity in saunas is the rule, and I felt waaay better about my body after that (and still do). Real bodies come in all shapes and reinforcing that in a non-ridiculing way can only be a good thing (not that that site, btw, actually achieves that, but you get the gist..)

thechairmanmeow · 19/06/2012 06:53

teitetua sorry to keep harping on about the sauna but it does change one's outlook slightly, nudity and sex end up in different boxes in your head, unless you chose to put them together. but anyway, yes, all breast/bodies are beautiful, and you see everything from the skinnyest to the most enormous people at the sauna.

what you never see ( well, i have never seen) at the sauna is the porn ideal , peroxide/silicone/shaved nipped and tukked bodies, and i doubt a body could still be classed as beautiful after that sort of butchering.

i also know i'm not the only guy to think this way, i wonder why the media/porn industry keep plying us with the same over-sexualised and false imagery when it really isnt that sexy and does untold damage to teenage girls.

ms ann
what you posted could be applied equaly to men, about suppressing sexual appetites, it isnt done to show your excitment. when i was a teenager, 25 years ago (oh god!) some of the girls i knew had their bedroom walls plasterd with semi-naked men, some boy-bands, curiosity killed the cat, or prince, but also male modles like nick kamen. they certainly diddnt have a problem expressing there sexuality.

AnyFucker · 18/06/2012 23:51

babies feet ! < smooch >

MsAnnTeak · 18/06/2012 23:48

How can all breasts be viewed as equally 'pretty', and why do you suggest all should be ?

I think feet are the most beautiful things when they are attached to babies but certainly think once we get to a certain age they are anything but.

TeiTetua · 18/06/2012 23:29

"breasts are quite pretty, in ways genitals arnt" [sic]

Does that include the full panoply of them, as shown on the Embarrassing Bodies site, or just the young-looking firm ones? Recently there was a discussion about whether bras are necessary, and someone said a relative's breasts were "grotesquely saggy"--I hope you'd call those pretty also.

BonnieBumble · 18/06/2012 23:09

I've had a look now - at the thread not the penises. Grin

Judging from the comments, it isn't quite how the OP suggested. Still makes me feel a little uncomfortable though.

MsAnnTeak · 18/06/2012 23:06

Chairman, not at all. Women have usually been brought up to supress their sexual apetites and adhere to a certain behaviour on matters of sex. Think it's Andrea Dworkin states that she doesn't believe women could desire to be impregnanted. Which I have to disagree with.

AnyFucker · 18/06/2012 23:04

you can say what you like, CM

it would be a strange response to make to mine, though

talkingnonsense · 18/06/2012 23:01

Bonnie, there are pictures of vulva and breasts too. I linked to the penises because of a thread where the op was worried about her child's size. I aimed to reassure- and I knew there would be giggling too, but it's a great site and very informative.

thechairmanmeow · 18/06/2012 23:01

shall i make personal remarks about your labia? or your nipples AF? or should i just ignor you as a hidious troll?

thechairmanmeow · 18/06/2012 22:59

ms ann
i hope your not suggesting that i think women should feel bad or sinfull for being aroused?

apart from that i agree with everythiong you say

AnyFucker · 18/06/2012 22:58

I think it sounds like a sorry affliction to have, CM

the way our society is so sexualised now, and women objectified as just so many body parts, your balls must be bright blue all the fecking time !

BonnieBumble · 18/06/2012 22:57

Yes, I would be bothered, in fact I would be disgusted. It does appear on MN that there are a lot of double standards.

MsAnnTeak · 18/06/2012 22:56

Chairman, that a female must feel bad, even sinful for being aroused let alone promiscious is the conditioning of centuries of what some call the partriarchy. When women married there was no expectation sex would, or should be enjoyable, more a duty to her husband.
Women are more than aware the effect their bodies have on men, Hence prostitution, lapdancing, strip-bars are where many women choose to cash in on their 'weakness'.

thechairmanmeow · 18/06/2012 22:53

agreed teitetua
but i would say that breasts are quite pretty, in ways genitals arnt.

thechairmanmeow · 18/06/2012 22:52

what would i tell the AF , that i'm atracted to the opposite sex? better have me commited!

nice that you feel sorry for me though
