A poster on another thread said she views feminism as the struggle against patriarchy. That is how I view it too. I believe that is considered the rad fem stance?

Another poster said she didn't believe in patriarchy

I don't geddit

Why/how are women so unequal if not for patriarchal societies? WHO has been oppressing us?

Please tell me what you think, if you don't believe in patriarchy

FFS, discussing kyriarchy is not stopping you from any activism you want to do.

This is a discussion is it not, where we talk about things?

The problem is that there seems to be a big attachment to Radical Feminism, with the idea that anyone who disagrees is a tool of the patriarchy/not doing feminism properly.

Like any ideology, radical feminism has it's critics and some of them make valid points.

Lack of intersectionality in feminism (and other movements too, if you explored them) is a huge issue. Many people don't have problems that neatly fit into the box "caused by the patriarchy", "caused by racism", they intersect.

For me, I don't think society is in two classes: men at the top and women underneath, I see it as a shifting pyramid. Yes, rich white, straight, able bodied MEN are at the top, but it's important to look at all the levels.

No one is forcing you to believe in Kyriarchy, but for some people it really does describe their lives and struggles.

Finally, everyone is entitled to comment here. I'm really saddened to see to the attempts to "shut up shop" and make this place for rad fems only. There are plenty of rad fem only spaces, this isn't one of them.

And finding someone's argument a bit obtuse, does not equate to them gaslighting you, that is a disgusting accusation.

I keep asking who dominates the power structures in this kyriarchy but nobody seems to want to discuss this

Interested in this...

I'm very familiar with the term, thanks. We had a thread on it last year.

EclecticShock · 11/06/2012 13:42

Alameda, thanks for joining us and sharing your humour.

EatsBrainsAndLeaves · 11/06/2012 13:41

you're lucky the expanding/elaborating troll isn't doggedly insisting you expand or elaborate on it yourself eclectic

where is he anyway?

EclecticShock · 11/06/2012 13:38

Why don't you research it beachcomber? I didn't invent the term. Or ask SAF, she may have studied it.

Beachcomber · 11/06/2012 13:37

Aw, thanks Porto Smile.

EclecticShock · 11/06/2012 13:36

Hot, I'm not grasping at anything, thanks. I was making an observation and explaining that I agree with you. Nothin to say I can't agree with one of your posts? Wow, looks like agreeing or disagreeing with some people is a problem. It's a hoot here.

Beachcomber · 11/06/2012 13:35

(Sorry to not be Sensible At All Times but is anybody else finding it amusing that when they type kyriarchy it gets the spellcheck red line of wrongness and the only proposed correction is patriarchy?)

Hot, you obviously don't understand my point as I agree with your point :)

Portofino · 11/06/2012 13:32

Well I read Beachcomber's posts and thought they were eminently sensible...Confused

EatsBrainsAndLeaves · 11/06/2012 13:31

Eclectic - I can't speak for every radical feminist first off. Secondly I do know other radfems have posted here about fighting a range of oppressions that affect women including disabled and poor women. And finally this is a feminist forum, of course women are going to post here about things to do with feminism and the patriarchy.

So I haven't posted here about the ways I have supported the fights for lesbian and gay rights, although i think it is very important. I have been involved in both action and giving money to this. But I would only mention this when it is directly relevant to feminism.

EclecticShock · 11/06/2012 13:31

Beachcomber, there is many posts on this forum to the contrary.

Alameda, I said rad fem ideologies from what I have read on here are too black and white for me, yes, as I have been posting about with regards to kyriarchy rather than patriarchy.

Beachcomber · 11/06/2012 13:28

What I don't do, EclecticShock, is get personal with people because I don't agree with them.

Alameda · 11/06/2012 13:28

might have been someone with similar posting voice actually

EatsBrainsAndLeaves · 11/06/2012 13:28

bejeezus - Thanks I will read your thread when I have a bit more time - trying to work at the moment!

I had assumed bejeezus from what you posted that you are a radical feminist - so clear tendencies there. Yes its great to have a space to haer these arguments and raise questions and put your point of view.

EclecticShock · 11/06/2012 13:27

Sorry, that was in response to EBL post at 13:15

bejeezusWC · 11/06/2012 13:23

sorry eclectic what is not the impression...?
