A poster on another thread said she views feminism as the struggle against patriarchy. That is how I view it too. I believe that is considered the rad fem stance?

Another poster said she didn't believe in patriarchy

I don't geddit

Why/how are women so unequal if not for patriarchal societies? WHO has been oppressing us?

Please tell me what you think, if you don't believe in patriarchy

Just thought of another answer to the OP ....

"Yes, I believe in God the Father who made me and all the world"

Or, maybe that was my Mum that made me !

EclecticShock · 11/06/2012 20:07

Explain which bit? If you look you will find others have explained my views far more eloquently in all matter of scholarly articles. I'm not saying anything new, it's been written about over and over, just as rad fem has.

Rad fem is not the only strand of feminism.

Portofino · 11/06/2012 20:06

No - that was MY synopsis of the article you linked to. You are totally free to give your own. I am learning, I am interested in all the different points of view. Genuinely. Though it is insulting to be told that we all blindly follow Dittany....as she herself could attest, we have not always got along...Wink

RulersMakeBadLovers · 11/06/2012 20:06

I still believe in the patriarchy. I see it in play every day.

I believe that youth-worship, white-hetero-normity and able-bodied are the defaults and believe in pretty much all the isms and phobias, although I am very lucky that I am not a direct target of many of those. I don't ignore them. I don't perpetuate them. I challenge them when I see/hear them. I challenge my own privilege frequently. I donate to causes that are lower on the hierarchy ladder. I'm not even political, tbh, so don't fall into the Guardian-reading liberal type. But I focus on feminism that effects changes for women, regardless of colour, sexuality or ability, because I am a woman. Can someone tell me what else I should be doing? Or what I am doing incorrectly? Is focussing on something that I am affected by any different that someone doing a 10k because their mum had breast cancer?

This is a plaintive post, not a challenging one.

swallowedAfly · 11/06/2012 20:04

so where's this link that says kiriarchy isn't a concept created by a feminist and part of feminist theory? apparently you've read stuff that says otherwise and we're still waiting on the link.

EatsBrainsAndLeaves · 11/06/2012 20:03

Well explain it eclectic then

EclecticShock · 11/06/2012 20:02

Thats a brilliantly biased inaccurate synopsis of my views but like I said, feel free.

swallowedAfly · 11/06/2012 20:02

links!!

FrothyDragon · 11/06/2012 20:02

Oh gawd, the poor menz route? :(

I was told the other day "porn is an effective route for reducing violence against women". Needless to say, my response was somewhere along the lines of "WTAF?"

swallowedAfly · 11/06/2012 20:02

porto did it also clear up how it's nothing to do with porn that women like men jizzing on their face but in fact because it was a source of zinc in days of scarcity on the savannah so we've evolved like that?

or maybe some mention of men and needing to go into their caves?

EclecticShock · 11/06/2012 20:00

Anyone else want to have a bash and get it out of their system? Water off a ducks back, fortunately.

swallowedAfly · 11/06/2012 19:59

not sure that clarifies anything though

Portofino · 11/06/2012 19:58

Though, I am not an expert, and would by no means refer to myself as RadFem, it was a total lot of "what about the menz".

Why men have too many relationship issues - too much porn - poor them.
Why working class men hate Maggie Thatcher.
Why women are at fault for passing on their body issues to their daughters - the evil bullying cows.

swallowedAfly · 11/06/2012 19:58

i think she agrees a lot with himalaya too.

Portofino · 11/06/2012 19:55

ES said she agreed very much with the Kyriarchy article she linked earlier.

What is ES's interpretation of feminism?

I have never noticed her mention it.

FrothyDragon · 11/06/2012 19:51

Why does EclecticShock refuse to address you, Dittany? It confuses me.

Oh, and Porto, Eats, I agree with you both... Dittany, you rock. Wink

Portofino · 11/06/2012 19:50

So, your links then, ES?

EclecticShock · 11/06/2012 19:49

Seriously, all these assumptions about my intentions are childish, but do feel free to continue with them as I will with my perspective. I couldn't care less about one poster in particular, what I care about is feminism being represented in its entirety.

Portofino · 11/06/2012 19:48

Sorry - more 3rd person! Dittany, YOU rock!
