Radfems and transsexuals – an outsider’s view

I?ve been reading the recent threads discussing feminism and transgender, and pretty challenging I?ve found them too. As an outsider, though, I can?t help thinking a lot of the radfems? concerns aren?t, in reality, an issue when it comes to the practicalities of how men oppress women.

This is going to be a bit of a long post, so to save it all appearing at the top of subsequent pages (assuming there are any) I?ll put the meat of it in a separate post below.

agrees with the chair up to now, didnt realise he was a man.
But didnt like your last post to stars.

StarsAndBoulevards · 03/06/2012 17:09

Hmm Right you are, CM

Pan · 03/06/2012 17:09

yes, the victim appears to keep referring it to 'having sex', which doesn't help the portrayal of what actually happened. But this doesn't explain your fatuous link-line does it?

Feminism would look more reasonable to men if we got back in the kitchen, made them sandwiches and let them do the talking...

stars ,who are you fighting? how is life back in the 1950's ? if you cant find the male chauvenist piggies, just fight the demons in your head!

StarsAndBoulevards · 03/06/2012 17:07

Actually, the I Believe Her page linked an interesting blog post on the misogyny of consent; What's wrong with consent

thechairmanmeow · 03/06/2012 17:05

there is a tendency, and before i was familiar on these threads i have to confess to being guilty of it myself, of men wanting to play down rape, it's a result of a feeling of collective guilt, because some men do rape. that in no way is an attempt to justify this playing down, just an attempt to explain it.

without consent sex is rape.

StarsAndBoulevards · 03/06/2012 17:00

Yes, Pan, I did.

The whole article tries to paint the survivor as "having sex", not being raped.

Not surprisingly, it was written by a man.

Rape is mentioned ONCE in an article about rape.

Pan · 03/06/2012 16:58

Stars, did you actually read your link before posting it?

If you did you'd realise 'according to men' is a load of old bollocks.

KalSkirata · 03/06/2012 16:58

'violent hate filled bigots' according to that male site.
I guess he doesnt like women having opinions.

StarsAndBoulevards · 03/06/2012 16:50

I mean, hell... According to men, even sleeping women can consent trigger warning

Sorry, Amillion, I'm not sure if that's the stat the MRA's are using atm, but it's very marginal.

amillionyears · 03/06/2012 16:48

posts of 16.39 amd 16.40

It's called adjustment. The stats as they stood unaltered were false statistics. If you read to the end, there's a breakdown of the likelihood of each type of abuse, according to the sex of the caregiver.

Stats, where provided, have to be proportional. Saying 60% of abuse comes from women, when 96% of single parents are women is a false statistic. Therefore, it has to be readjusted accordingly.

Strange - a thread about transexuals on FWR is not about transsexuals.

:)

thechairmanmeow · 03/06/2012 16:37

i have allways thought that the radfems and the MRA's have more in common with each other than they might think.

thechairmanmeow · 03/06/2012 16:36

well, i havent read it right through, i'm semi afk but as you rightly diddnt chose an MRA source as they clearly have an agenda you chose the liz library! and they dont have an agenda do they?

are they not mixing the numbers of sexual and physical abuse together to get that result?

theres a book called 'how to lie with statistics'

and 99% of statistics are made up just before they are spouted.

i dont want to demonise women btw stars, i like women, well most women anyway.

StarsAndBoulevards · 03/06/2012 16:23

Actually, Chairman, this may be of interest to you.

Doubt it, though, seeing as you're intent on demonising women...
www.thelizlibrary.org/liz/statistics.html It's the first link I got, which didn't come from an MRA's source.

amillionyears · 03/06/2012 16:20

Agree with thechair.Cant see the point of upsetting a man who comes on here, trying to help feminists.Just dont get it.
