Netmums and feminism

Just noticed there is a thread in NM about feminism. Reading it, although some of the posts are fairly basic in terms of ideas (not a criticism, just an observation, everyone starts somewhere in terms of ideas like this), some would fit in very easily to the feminist board here.

It surprises me that someone with that level of analysis of feminism would be on NM and so I wondered if these posters are also on MN. That kind of makes sense a bit more.

So really I am asking, is anyone on here also posting on the feminism thread on NM? Not asking for NM names just wondering. And if you are, why do you post on NM?

Feminism is for boffins eh OP?

This is an incredibly patronising post, but not wholly undeserved, I post on both forums and for very different reasons, but then if you see one particular post on the nm thread you will understand why there is little discussion around this topic, posters have been harassed and abused because they dare to question, not judge, but question.

But then that's why I come here for any realistic discussions. It's also why people decamp for certain discussions.

I posted on the original thread, the one on their now is the 2nd one, but that was pulled for unknown reasons.

There are a lot of intelligent women posting over there who end up feeling marginalised or decide not to bother trying to have a sensible discussion.

I once apologised for peadophiles because I did not agree with burning them to death in the street Grin

Yeah fair enough, I didn't mean to be patronising but I can see I was

I think it can only be a good thing if netmums has some feminist discussion - from some things I've read on their relationships board, they badly need feminism!

Think it was probably a bit patronisingly put in the OP but I can see where you were coming from.It perhaps could have been put more tactfully.

EatsBrainsAndLeaves · 24/05/2012 18:31

True emphatic. So maybe I am being unreasonable :)

Yes I see what you mean Eats having had a quick look, but then again a quick look at AIBU or chat on here sometimes and there's not lots of analysis or masses of thought.

EatsBrainsAndLeaves · 24/05/2012 18:23

Emphatic - I haven't read lots of posts on NM I admit. But what I have read there doesn't seem to be posters who have the same level of political analysis as on the feminist board here for example. So it surprised me.

Atree - maybe I am being patronising. Sorry

Myelin - I agree. I wasn't surprised to read about some posts about general feminist ideas. But I was surprised for example to read someone describing themselves as a radical feminist.

But I don't know the site well, so maybe I am just believing the negative propoganda on MN about NM

Interesting. I don't really frequent NM, but when I have visited on the odd occasions I have got the impression that they are a gentler sort, easily offended. I don't know if that's a correct impression.
I can imagine that women like that would perhaps be more likely to shy away from a fight, and as feminists I think we often have to fight our corner, or are at least angrily aware at some of the day to day misogyny encountered.

AllMuddledUp · 24/05/2012 18:10

I lurk in here a lot, I find lots of really interesting posts that make me think.

This one just makes me Hmm

Emphaticmaybe · 24/05/2012 18:01

I don't really know anything about netmums but is the gist of what you're saying, you don't think the rest of the site reflects this level of thoughtfulness?

Get0rfMoiLand · 24/05/2012 17:09

Oh fgs

Discuss a NM thread on netmums. Why here?

Atreegrowsinbrooklyn · 24/05/2012 17:07

Shock.......How patronising....
