Has anyone seen the ad for this "programme" on bbc 3 or rather the trailer.
As part of the trailer Russell Kane and chum mentioned that (i think it was 53%) of women are happy to let rip (fart) in front of their boyfriends. WTF.
Do we have different digestive systems fron men or something? Or are we supposed to hold it in and get stomachache just cos we have breasts instead of a penis? Because BBC3 i would love to know.

MizK did youu really mean to say 'there are more important things'? Because someone always says that about anything to do with women. It's on all the Bingo cards

grimbletart · 07/05/2012 12:59

Let's hope that House never has to have an op for piles (as I did after a particularly traumatic first labour left my nether regions severely damaged).

Believe me, once you've had that op many people find an escapee fart can occasionally happen with no warning whatsoever. It has nothing to do with diet and it was the attention of doctors that caused it in the first place......

Sorry TMI. Grin

QueenofPlaids · 07/05/2012 00:36

house Nice idea - not quite sure how we implement it in a house where there are times when making it to the loo on time for a crap is an achievement..

There really are much worse things than breaking wind and tbh unless someone is proud of it (I've never met anyone who was who wan't also a teenage boy) or excessively causing noise and a stink, I'd leave it.

SardineQueen · 06/05/2012 17:44

I think DH would be really upset if I stopped cuddling him and left the room simply to fart Sad

SardineQueen · 06/05/2012 17:43

I was farting at a rate of knots when I was pg.

No way am I getting up out of a warm bed and waddling to a cold bathroom every 5 mins when I am heavily upduffed.

Or under any other circumstances, quite frankly Grin

TheHouseOnTheCorner · 06/05/2012 17:12

And before anyone says "What?? EVERY TIME??"....yes EVERY TIME. If you're doing it so many times that this is awkward...then eat more slowly and sensibly or go to the GP.

TheHouseOnTheCorner · 06/05/2012 17:11

It's less to do with anything that women are MEANT to do rather than what men SHOULD be doing....it's just disgusting to do it in front of anyone. Leave the room...go to the toilet...do it there.

QueenofPlaids · 06/05/2012 15:57

I have IDB. Doubt I'd last long with a partner who couldn't handle farting & poo conversations Grin

Not only that but during flare I'm sure my colleagues know exactly why I belt out of meetings with great speed. I would rather hope that they don't think about it though, but you learn to 'deal'.

DP also has IBD. This can at times be a very poo-obsessed house Wink

catgirl1976 · 06/05/2012 15:38

I won't fart in front of anyone, nor will I discuss my poo unless I have some medical need to discuss it with HCP. I have been with DH for 15 years and we have never used that bathroom in front of one another. I don't think it's to do with being female - I wouldn't expect a man to fart in front of me or discuss poo either

SardineQueen · 06/05/2012 15:34

I do actually know females who won't fart in front of anyone, and some who more or less pretend that they don't poo Confused

I remember a woman at school, when I said I felt hot and sweaty on a bus, turned around and said "horses sweat, men perspire, ladies glow". Confused

One of the reasons that many teenaged girls avoid exercise is because they will go red and sweaty and it will mess their hair up

In environments where I have worked, in the summer, men having sweat marks on armpits was fine for a man and a definite no-no for a woman

All that sort of thing. I think is what marjery is talking about.

Sanjeev · 06/05/2012 12:10

'It is so a feminist issue. Like so much else women are expected to have more control over their bodies than men.'

Marjery - what do you base this statement on?

margerykemp · 06/05/2012 10:29

It is so a feminist issue. Like so much else women are expected to have more control over their bodies than men.

WasabiTillyMinto · 06/05/2012 09:54

Its not tiny pooh specks that makes farts smell, its gas produced by bacteria. sulpher dioxide. that the really bad smell...

scrablet · 06/05/2012 09:17

Grin at fart is not a feminist issue!

LeBOF · 06/05/2012 02:46

*chuffs, not cuffs, sorry.

LeBOF · 06/05/2012 02:46

Oh yes- DP is very restrained and polite, and we only ever fart accidentally in front of each other, which is accompanied on both sides by politely ignoring, or gentle piss-taking, depending on the circumstances.

I would be annoyed if there was a big disparity in what was acceptable, ie the man being free to let rip, and the woman being castigated for 'unladylike' behaviour. A healthy and equal attitude to the reality of bodily functions without a celebration of being crass for the sake of it is what I think works best.

I think it's a bit of a red flag if the bloke cuffs like a train with gay abandon, while imposing a feminine standard of infallibility on the woman. I'd hate to be one of those couples that leaves the bathroom door open, but that's just a personal preference. It's the double standard that is a problem.

carernotasaint · 06/05/2012 02:35

What kickassangel said is what i was getting at.

OP posts:
kickassangel · 06/05/2012 01:53

It is if women are expected NOT to fart but it's OK for men to do so.

TheHouseOnTheCorner · 06/05/2012 01:15

I'm a feminist and I won't do that in front of others and expect the same courtesy. It's sht particles..tiny poo specks which are released within the fart....that's what makes the smell and I do NOT want to inhale someone elses shit thank you.

But I am still a feminist.

Fart is NOT a feminist issue.

SardineQueen · 05/05/2012 21:44

Oh I am a crap widow then!

Grin but actually Angry if I'm honest...

MrsMcEnroe · 05/05/2012 21:40

It's a reference to a thread from a couple of weeks ago SardineQueen Smile - those of us whose partners spend far too long on the bog refer to ourselves as the crap widows ....

BIWItheBold · 05/05/2012 20:03

Grin at 'holder inner'

I'm definitely a 'letter outer'

SardineQueen · 05/05/2012 20:01

A crap member of the poo sisterhood?

Is that some kind of rank Grin

MrsMcEnroe · 05/05/2012 19:46

Given that 99% of men seem comfortable farting in front of their partners I'm sure the programme is merely pointing out the discrepancy between men and women in this respect.

I can fart in front of DH but I have to do it very slowly and with total concentration so that I don't make any noise Blush I certainly couldn't do that man thing of throwing myself into the armchair whilst trumpeting loudly and fruitily from my nether regions

HowardnHilda · 05/05/2012 19:44

There was a thread not so long ago where someone here wouldn't poo if her partner was in the house. She actually waited until he went out or sent him on spurious errands so she could shit.

The worst bit was she didn't find this remotely unhealthy, physically or otherwise Sad
