Why am I not surprised? These footballers are so pandered, adored and idolised that some of them think morality and the law does not apply to them. Would they(fans and footballers) be happy for fellow footballers to treat their sisters or daughters like this? I really hope it didn't happen.

bronze · 28/04/2012 19:20

I have no reasonable words. Well given this they probably are reasonable but ...

Unbloodylievable

IAmBooyhoo · 28/04/2012 19:10

does anyone know if it happened? the match was earlier this evening wasn't it?

whitewhitewine · 28/04/2012 19:09

Totally agree Jux.

Jux · 28/04/2012 19:08

I know it's not the team organizing it (or not publicly anyway). But the only way you can show a very large number of football that something is frowned upon, not acceptable, etc is to punish the team. Then the fans are punished by not seeing their team play, or not seeing their team win, or seeing their team relegated without playing or something like that. How else are you going to send a message to a large number of plonked who don't care that one of their team has raped a teenager ?

InmaculadaConcepcion · 28/04/2012 19:05

Just so sickening.

Reminds me of that case in the US where the American college footballer who raped a young woman was venerated while she was denigrated (including the college he played for trying its hardest to protect him so he could keep on playing).

Hideous, all of it.

SuePurblyingoodVOICE · 28/04/2012 17:44

Bloody hell, that's awful. So depressing.

KRITIQ · 28/04/2012 17:41

I believe football teams in the past have received sanctions where their fans have engaged in anti-social or violent behaviour. I think the same should apply here. Those who are organising the "protest" should be refused entry to the grounds. If the protest starts at 9 seconds, the match should be suspended immediately. The club also should issue the strongest possible statement distancing themselves from this action and from the convicted rapist as well.

It may be hard to believe the man's girlfriend is standing by him, but I am sure we have all known women who have "stood by their man" even when they have experienced the most hideous abuse, humiliation and/or deception from them. It is possible that she has bought the garbage that women literally throw themselves at professional football players, that being "red blooded men," they are incapable of resisting such advances and therefore, it is impossible that they could "genuinely" rape anyone. Papers like the Daily Mail are filled with stories of women who lie about rape, which also supports this position. Perhaps the girlfriend just feels she has to accept infidelity as an occupational hazard of being in a relationship with a professional footballer.

I suppose I can somewhat understand the sister's support for her brother. It's not the first time that someone has believed a relative despite overwhelming evidence that they are lying.

IAmBooyhoo · 28/04/2012 17:32

sorry i'll reword that. it appears that women are just here for men to have sex

cocolepew · 28/04/2012 17:32

Dh has just read it over my shoulder, he said "fucking twats what are they thinking". I don't think they know how to think.

IAmBooyhoo · 28/04/2012 17:31

presumably that was one of the fans who will be taking part or at least supporting the clapping/silence.

i just dont get how people aren't disgusted at him. one day rapists will be viewed the same way as paedohiles and people will be too ashamed to publicy defend or support them. one day. it can't come soon enough though. for the time being it appears that women are just here for sex and it how dare they complain when men take it.

Memoo · 28/04/2012 17:25

I got a reply from Angela Smith MP.

She said she tweeted her disgust about this last night only to received verbal abuse from a Sheffield fan.

They are fools, all of them. Try supporting a rapist when someone you know has been raped!
Vile people

Sunnywithachanceofshowers · 28/04/2012 16:53

Reason umpty million why I'm a feminist. Kicking racism out of football is great, if only they'd kick out misogyny too...

IAmBooyhoo · 28/04/2012 16:45

i can only imagine what fans' reactions would be if it had been two women that had done this to a man. but tbh there is no equivalent in female terms where there is such a massive crowd gathered together in one place to support any female teams, nor the associated degradation of men. it just doesn't happen in reverse.

SaraBellumHertz · 28/04/2012 16:39

It's just so depressingly vile isn't it?

whitewhitewine · 28/04/2012 16:30

Please ignore spelling mistakes, getting used to posting on my phone!

whitewhitewine · 28/04/2012 16:21

Bloody vile. It is just so shit isn't it. That poor, poor girl hasn't only be raped but now has to see people applauding her attacker.

Is 5 years and a little hero worship the going rate for raping a vunerable young woman now? Angry

Lottapianos · 28/04/2012 16:04

I'm absolutely sickened too. And people still scoff at the suggestion that we live in a rape culture???? How on earth can his girlfriend be sticking by him? As someone else said, even if she doesn't believe it was rape, he still shagged another woman. I guess it just shows how normal this is for some people, and how natural it is to disbelieve a woman who alleges rape, even if her allegations are found to be true by a court of law. Heartbroken for his poor victim Sad

FrothyDragon · 28/04/2012 15:54

Jux, it's Evans' sister and close friends who seem to be organising the clapping. :(

mamalovesmojitos · 28/04/2012 15:47

God that is sickening and I understand why it would make you cry op. Sick, pathetic, brainless people. that poor girl Sad

Empusa · 28/04/2012 15:47

"but i agree, the team shoudl walk off in disgust if it does happen."

Agreed.

Get0rfMoiLand · 28/04/2012 15:46

What a bunch of absolute cunts. Bloody hell.

This is revolting. That poor woman must be feeling distraught.

IAmBooyhoo · 28/04/2012 15:46

jux i dont think its the team that is holding/organising the silence/clapping/whatever. it's the fans.

but i agree, the team shoudl walk off in disgust if it does happen.

Jux · 28/04/2012 15:43

Why the hell is this being televised then? That's a disgrace too.

The team should be punished and have to play at half strength or whoever it is they're playing just given the match.

You need something really strong to show all these bloody yobs that what they're doing is not acceptable.

Perhaps when the clapping starts the entire team could be sent off.
