In brief, the Dignity for the Disabled MP in Australia wants the tax payer to fund sex workers for the disabled.

thoughts?

I am disabled, but I'm a woman, so obv have no right to have genitals, never mind sex.
It's unbelievably patronising to disabled people and equally oppressive to women.
AnyFucker -you're right

Sex isn't a human right.

Suppose there are women and men who consider themselves sex therapists. Who would not dream of walking the streets as a prostitute, and have not been trafficked or co-erced but understand a disabled person's yearning for a human sexual touch? Who would offer sexual services in the same way that a woman sells her parenting skills as a foster carer? Why is it OK to sell your home and mothering as a foster carer but not to work as a specialist sex escort for disabled people? What if a disabled woman would like to engage this service from a man? Or a disabled gay man from a sexual partner?

AnyFucker · 03/04/2012 17:12

Nobody has the "right" to sex (in this context). Nobody.

colditz · 03/04/2012 17:10

no no no no no!

EVERYONE has the right to masturbate, and the right (IMHO) to have masturbatory aids if necessary.

Instead of faceless sex workers, how about the social workers defending this idea do it? It could be treated like an overnighter on duty. They could have a payscale list.

no? Doesn't appeal? Hmm, didn't think so.

That's pretty much what I was thinking Annie, but struggling to put my thoughts in to words.

To consider sex as a 'right' is just so deeply, deeply wrong and disturbing.

jifnotcif · 03/04/2012 17:07

It's just back-door politics again - they want to decriminalise sex work - which is fairly decriminalised already in Australia a it happens.

However, this would be reliant on the passing in Parliament of a Bill decriminalising sex work.

Right. In your dreams mate.

Oh no no no no no no no!!!! Exploiting women so that disabled men can get their jollies? What about men who are just plan ugly or lacking in the personality department? Should they get sex workers provided for them too?

There are plenty of people in this world who may struggle to get sex through the usual channels. But turning to paying some poor woman who has no other way to earn her crust? Wrong wrong wrong!

Sex is not something that should ever be bought. If you can't find a willing partner yourself, masturbate. Even if you struggle to masturbate with your hands there are plenty of sex toys that would help.

How about using the money to train the sex workers in a real job so they don't have to sell themselves to survive?

Or, if disabled people really need help with sex, spend the money on developing sex aids they can easily use.
