Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

AIBU to think that scoffing lemon drizzle cake and shagging toyboys is a feminist act?

Because I enjoy doing both and I'm a self-declared feminist, so it must be, right?

Or is that just a fucking stupid way to look at the world?

Because just because you think you're a feminist and you like doing something, that doesn't mean that every single thing you ever do, from eating cornflakes to dancing the tango, is feminist.

It's lacking in critical thinking and common sense, to think it is.

IMO.

I want feminist wotsits Sad Actually I'd be happy with F4J wotsits if I'm honest. I mean the goulash was feministly delicious as was the feminist flapjack I had for pud but come on wotsits? Oh yes.

VictorGollancz · 22/03/2012 21:59

I've only got feminist wotsits. I think I might be doing it wrong. Surely if I was doing it right there'd be cake?

SmellsLikeTeenStrop · 22/03/2012 21:08

We can be feminist bump buddies Alice. Maybe suffragettes invented bras because they needed a symbol of female oppression to burn at a later date. That would make perfect sense.

MrsChemist · 22/03/2012 20:44

Well, I've just renamed my right knee, "The Patriarchy" because DS has just been sick all over it.

Later, I intend to smash the patriarchy by eating chocolate rich tea biscuits.

dollymixtures · 22/03/2012 19:46

The Suffragettes didn't invent bras Hmm They invented perspex platform shoes. And thongs. And that farking ugly piece of tat on the thread that inspired this one. Oh yes ahead of their time.

I am currently crushing the patriachy by making goulash while DP acts as a footsoldier of the menarchy by putting the children to bed.

blackcurrants · 22/03/2012 18:32

I just feministly sung "C is for Cookie!" to DS while he danced around. His dancing was empowerful!

mumwithdice · 22/03/2012 17:41

Oooh, can I play too? Feminist DD and I are sitting here feministly listening to the Ghostbusters theme and DD is feministly dancing to it.

AliceHurled · 22/03/2012 17:01

I thought the suffragettes invented bras so they'd look more sexaay and empowered Confused

AliceHurled · 22/03/2012 17:00

Slts your baby will only be 5 weeks older than mine! Maybe we should agree they will marry, I'm pretty sure that would be feminist.

sunshineandbooks · 22/03/2012 16:50

SLTS - if your baby is late it's clearly because he or she is taking a feminist stance on patriarchal notions of time!

SmellsLikeTeenStrop · 22/03/2012 16:47

The suffragettes were so ahead of their time, they burned bras a symbols of female oppression before the concept of bras as a symbol of female oppression had even been thought of. They may even have burned them before they were invented.

SmellsLikeTeenStrop · 22/03/2012 16:41

This feminist baby will join me fighting the patriarchy in 25 more weeks. Though if its like its siblings it'll want to hang in there longer.

SinicalSanta · 22/03/2012 15:57

No, it was bras that the suffragettes were interested in Alice, they burned them!

sunshineandbooks · 22/03/2012 15:42

The fact that you're even wearing a skirt makes it like a post-modern feministy statement you know!

I am currently swearing at the printer in a very feministy fashion. The fact that I am able to express myself thus means that there is no longer any need for feminism in the workplace.

AliceHurled · 22/03/2012 15:25

My skirt's quite short today. That counts doesn't it? I'm pretty sure the suffragettes fought for that one.

blackcurrants · 22/03/2012 14:55

Grumpola please feel feministly free to give me more feminist details about your feminist 4 week old, because I am getting a bit feministly broody, and so details of froggy newborns and that wonderful smell would be feministly appreciated.

oh god that smell!

[feministly daydreams of another feminist baby]

FrothyDragon · 22/03/2012 14:49

How feministing far along are you, SLTS?

I'm also taking a feminist nap, whilst DS is quiet. I know he'll wake me up in a feminist manner if he needs anything.

SmellsLikeTeenStrop · 22/03/2012 14:43

I am going for a feminist nap, because I am exhausted growing this feminist baby.

FrothyDragon · 22/03/2012 14:42

DS has been off from nursery in an act of feminist defiance, with the chicken pox.

I've been subjected to The Feministly Hitch Hikers on a daily basis to cull his anguish at being cooped up, and reluctance to play with anything that requires more than 5 minutes of a feminist attention span.

We're now eating feminist spiderman candy sticks.

Now watching The Feministly Hitch-hikers guide to the Feminist Galaxy.

Should we sing along?

"So long, and thanks for all the feminists...."

sorry, that was a bit offkey, wasn't it? My most feminist apologies.

blackcurrants · 22/03/2012 14:18

oh, and while I was out DH did feministly make some feminist oat-and-raisin biscuits to take to this playdate, and I suppose he did feministly leave me two of them, so I might feministly forgive him.

[feministly grudging]

blackcurrants · 22/03/2012 14:17

Oooh can I play? My toyboy DH is feministly on his feministy spring break, and last night declared his feminist intent to keep demonhellspawn feministintraining DS home from daycare and feministly take him to a feminist toddler playdate in the feminist park, as it will be a feministly balmy 24 degrees here later today.

I stupidly feministly said this was a nice idea even though I'm fucking feministly working from home today.
feministintraining DS has been a clinging whining monster all morning so I feministly took him to the feminist swings down the road, where my hyper-butch but nonetheless feministly adorable dog did a massive feminist shit and then feministly chewed a stick while feministintraining DS ran around picking up rubbish and feministly trying to eat it while I feminstly listened to The Rachel Maddow Show on my ipod and tried not go to insane.

After an hour of feministly excercising my feminist dog and feministintraining demonspawn son, I feministly returned them to my H, feministly ordered them all out of the house, and am now feministly staring at a pile of marking, while drinking my second cup of very feminist tea.

Hurrah for the revolution!

dollymixtures · 22/03/2012 13:50

I have just eaten some feminist flapjack. It really was, DP made it...although he doesn't self-identify as a feminist...Confused

FrothyDragon · 22/03/2012 13:46

Wait, what... Wilson, you read the instructions?

Why would anyone do that?
