Have we a thread on this yet?

www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2011/oct/04/facebook-hate-speech-women-rape?newsfeed=true

I am really shocked.

OP posts:

Well I'd like to think so Lenin, but since I appear to be trivalising rape by mentioning that someone made a comment about how date rape is different to stranger rape, and that I am somehow blaming victims by talking about profiling and characteristics then perhaps not.

The same silly and childish games are being played out yet again by the same posters as before. Very tiring. Very boring.

Rhubarb, you did trivialise rape. By providing seperate profiles for different types of rape.

SQ's generally or datily comment was a parody of that. I saw that straight away.

I do like the word "datily" though. Kudos to SQ for that Grin

TheRhubarb · 07/10/2011 14:50

Exactly Lenin, we have a long way to go yet.

SQ I think you know that general rapists was meant to read rapists in general but you gleefully pounced on my error and made it much worse with your "generally or datily" statement.

Still, nice to know that I am providing you with plenty of amusement. Still feeling hurt and upset are we?

Rhubarb

You have upset people
Most people on this thread find your posts offensive
And think you are wrong. Well, statistically they know you are wrong
Then you come out with "general rape" as opposed to "date rape" which is just appalling
So now people are taking the piss

Does it occur to you that there may be a good reason that people are reacting to your posts like this?

SQ, what is this, back to school hour? "Well it was her who did it as well!"

I'm not interested. Give it a rest.

TheRhubarb · 07/10/2011 14:39

They do touch on profiling and I did pick out some quotes. It's a large document but read further down and they do profile the criminals. It talks of sexual abuse within the home and domestic violence.

Course you were SQ, in a very offensive way. Glad to hear you admit that you were taking the piss though. Pity you chose to do so in a way that trivialised rape to the categories of "generally or datily"

SardineQueen · 07/10/2011 14:36

In fact it was frothy taking the piss. As well as me. And chibi.

SardineQueen · 07/10/2011 14:35

The purpose of it is trying to work out which domestic abusers will go on to murder, from what I can see SGM.

SardineQueen · 07/10/2011 14:33

I was taking the piss out of you rhubarb, as was chibi. Because you said something so bloody stupid that taking the piss was the only obvious reaction.

met link lenin

SardineQueen · 07/10/2011 14:31

Rhubarb have you actually read that met police link? It has little to do with this conversation. It stems from a study about domestic murder cases, and involves cases that have come to the attention of the police.

In the opening it says this: "This analysis is based on incidents reported to the Metropolitan Police Service. However, the lessons learnt are relevant to all those working within the field domestic violence and to the criminal justice system as a whole."

We have established that most rapes are not reported to the police. Further, not all rapes are committed by partners and not all rapes have attendant violence (aside from the act of rape obviously).

The report is looking at a subsection of very violent domestic abusers who have rape as an an abuse in their repertoire. Again, many many women experience rapes outside these circumstances. The study is interesting in as far as it goes... but that's it.

Also, why are you asking everyone to read stuff. But when information is posted about things that does not fit with your way of thinking, you dismiss it.

Sorry, who just said "chibi that depends if you were raped generally or datily."?

I don't think I was ever that dismissive SQ so don't try to worm your way out of that one by saying it's all my fault and I made you say it. I didn't.

You were the one who differentiated between "general" rape and "date" rape rhubarb.

DontCallMeFrothyDragon · 07/10/2011 14:05

Wait, what?

Hang on, I was raped both "generally" Hmm and "datily" Hmm

Who should I be cross with?

TheRhubarb · 07/10/2011 14:05

Yup SQ comes across as one upset poster who is beside herself alright. I am so relieved she took my apology in the spirit it was meant - I shall remember this next time someone rages at me to apologise. There really is no point.

"raped generally or datily" what a nice thing to say Hmm

TheRhubarb · 07/10/2011 14:03

LeBOF unfortunately your lightness is lost admist the patronising tones of chibi et al.

I can only refer you to the Met Police link which I cannot be bothered posting again but which referred to the characteristics and profiling of domestic abusers, including those guilty of sexual assault. My opinion may count for nothing as far as you are concerned and it is patronising I think to say that this would upset rape victims. The Met Police use their profiling to send out to social services and so on.

Would anyone care to tell them that not only are they in danger of upsetting people but that they are completely wrong?
