At least 80% of rapes cannot be "prevented" by following those "guidlines".

What the hell do you do when you're in your own bed, at home, in your pyjamas or baggy jeans and a hoody, not giving the lead on. What "guidlines" protect you then?

TheRhubarb · 06/10/2011 12:30

No Dont I cannot speak for every fucking rape victim, what do you think?
This is getting pathetic now.

Fine. You won't apologise for the things you said.
I won't apologise for calling you a twunt as I believe that saying I don't believe in rape is far fucking worse.

I have explained what my opinions are and why. I have answered your every post. Now I have wasted enough fucking time on you. I think you are the one who thinks you are wholly right and whose answer to everything is to accuse them of siding with the rapist.

This thread is a complete waste of time.

DontCallMeFrothyDragon · 06/10/2011 12:29

So what the fuck do the victims raped by their partners or friends do? Because those fucking guidlines don't apply!

Ok, so let's do away with rape alarms and guidelines and warnings to women. Whilst we are at it, let's not give out advice to homeowners on how to keep their properties safe either.

FFS Dont, we all agree that the only person to blame in the fucking rapist himself. I think we can both share that common ground at least! But it also makes sense to tell people how to protect themselves ffs!

DontCallMeFrothyDragon · 06/10/2011 12:26

You don't "think". I'm assuming you can speak for every victim, then?

TheRhubarb · 06/10/2011 12:24

"By profiling the offenders, it is possible to learn lessons about dangerousness, lethality, prevention, protection and enforcement."

I don't think that victims of domestic abuse or of rape would read that and then go on to blame herself.

Profiling is a science, it is still used by the police force which speaks for its effectiveness. I will repeat myself and say that if you do not believe in this method, I respect that and I do not think of myself as wholly right. I have my beliefs and opinions which are subject to change if given overwhelming evidence that contradicts them. Just as you would not change your beliefs or opinions either.

DontCallMeFrothyDragon · 06/10/2011 12:21

Exactly. If men can't trust themselves not to rape, then they should be issued the guidlines.

Have another Biscuit

TheRhubarb · 06/10/2011 12:20

Will you find fault with the MET Police link? on domestic violence and profiling?

TheRhubarb · 06/10/2011 12:18

There is a criminal profile for every type of criminal. It is pure sociology.

If you disagree then presumably you disagree with papers which tell women how to stay safe and protect themselves because this is shifting the focus onto them is it not? So there should be no protection advice or guidelines issued to women on how to protect themselves?

DontCallMeFrothyDragon · 06/10/2011 12:16

SGM, you'd be right.

TheRhubarb · 06/10/2011 12:15

No I will not withdraw the second link.
SGM I have already said that some people do not agree with criminal profiling and have agreed to disagree.
The link which stated about blacks is an American link - most criminals in prison are black. Fact. Having said that, obviously the connotation that most rapists are black is wrong.

FFS you cannot deny a science just because you don't like it. You cannot hide it in case it upsets. Victims of rape are not stupid, they are not over emotional little bunnies who need protecting - that is patronising.

You think I blame victims. I have said that I do not. You think criminal profiling is blaming victims. I have said that I do not believe it is. Therein lies our difference of opinion.

Well, its an 'ology, yes. but its based on evolving and conflicting theory.

DontCallMeFrothyDragon · 06/10/2011 12:10

Report it and ask for it to be withdrawn.

In fact, withdraw both. Will save victims from mentally replaying their rapes, and trying to work out how their attacker fitted those descriptions and were they to blame for not realising it.

Please.

JV, I was looking for psychology papers on criminal profiling, I posted that link before I read it properly. My apologies.

TheRhubarb · 06/10/2011 12:08

JV, it is a science.
Criminology is a science. Criminal profiling is attached to criminology.
The wiki link I gave explains it in more detail.

JeremyVile · 06/10/2011 12:06

Why did you post the first link?

TheRhubarb · 06/10/2011 12:06

Yep, ignore the first one, I missed the black thing.

JeremyVile · 06/10/2011 12:05

But we all know criminal profiling exists. We also all know (dont we?) that its not a science.

I meant awful as in - a load of circular, unsubstantiated, pointelss twaddle.

TheRhubarb · 06/10/2011 12:04

Hairy, I think you mean the first link which is, as I said, unsupported by resources. The second is fully backed up.

And I am fully aware that not everyone agrees with criminal profiling. But that doesn't meant to say that those who do are somehow on the side of the criminal and think that victims are to blame.

bemybebe · 06/10/2011 12:03

I think you should ignore the first one completely. As 'bollocks'.
