Thanks.

That is it.

You know how I have appreciated your posts and your influence, so I don't need to say more.

No nay-sayers allowed, please respect this space for people who wish to express their appreciation of a person who has been a force for good on MN.

Thank you Dittany - when I first read your posts they seemed completely out there, as I'd never read anything even vaguely feminist. I used to argue with you, but you always had reason on your side.

You've changed the way I see the world, and made me determined that my dds will have their eyes opened. You've made me lose a couple of (anti feminist) friends, and that was definitely a good thing Grin I've converted a few others, your influence has spread well beyond MN.

I'll miss not having the chance to argue discuss things some more once I've caught up on my reading. I hope you will continue to write, whether in the form of books, articles or a blog. Best wishes.

Portofino · 18/09/2011 13:29

Thank you, Dittany! You really did change the way I think about the world.

vezzie · 18/09/2011 13:12

Yes, a big thank you from me too. Come back if you can. If you don't want to, then I hope you are enjoying life doing whatever you are doing.

Anniegetyourgun · 18/09/2011 12:50

Another fan saying "come back soon, wearing dark glasses if necessary".

I remember some while ago in Relationships, a poster made some sneering comment like "you don't have to listen to Dittany, she's a feminist". I dare say they thought they had made some kind of point. I can't remember who it was nor do I particularly care. I do remember Dittany though, and in a good way.

Interesting how many people have posted things like "I didn't always agree with her, but..." That's the thing, you could have a healthy debate. She'd never mind explaining why she believed a thing, or pointing out where you could read more about it. Thus I object strongly to the term "flouncing" in this case, because it implies being unable to handle disagreement, and let's face it, this is a woman who was never afraid of a bit of disagreement. It kind of goes with the territory when you challenge established systems.

Keep up the good work, leafgreen ! Smile

P.S. Dittany, I get to teach undergraduates sometimes. I sneak rad fem theory in at every opportunity Wink

leafgreen · 18/09/2011 12:22

Thank you, Dittany. I used to be SupposedToBeWorking (but namechanged when I decided to stop berating myself Grin), and your 'small sexual assaults' thread changed my life. I had never had a woman angry on my behalf before.

Your unfailing defense of women oppressed by patriarchy, by misogyny, gives me such strength.

AF, you also helped me a lot on that thread. Thank you too.

Really sorry to hear that Dittany is off but she must have to do what she must have to do.

Brilliant insight.

LRDTheFeministDragon · 18/09/2011 11:51

Oh yes - I can't imagine Dittany will mind if I say thanks to both her and Sakura too. You've both given me some brilliant advice and stuff to think about. Take care of yourselves.

MarginallyNarkyPuffin · 18/09/2011 11:19

Thank you Dittany. You challenged my thinking and prompted me to question things I had viewed as certainties.

AnyFucker · 18/09/2011 10:58

Nope, I don't mind and I don't think Dittany would either

Oh and I know this thread is for dittany but I'm sure AF won't mind if I add that there are other voices who are missing from this section too at the moment. I just wanted to add my thanks to them too. I'm thinking of Sakura in particular but there are others too. You know who you are sisters Smile.

Beachcomber · 18/09/2011 10:43

Thank you dittany. Like so many others here, I respect you enormously and appreciate your incisive straight talking posts, and the knowledge and perception that you brought this section.

I know you will keep raising feminist consciousness - it is our loss that you won't be doing it here.

It was you that inspired me to challenge my thinking, I feel quite sad that you're gone.

Tota1Xaos · 18/09/2011 09:51

Thank you Dittany. For your passion, commitment, and sharing of knowledge.

handsomeharry · 18/09/2011 09:15

I am a lurker in the feminism section. Dittany challenged and the changed my thinking on a number of issues. Thank you.

sunshineandbooks · 18/09/2011 09:01

I hope dittany is reading this.

She should feel justifiably proud of what she's achieved.

What a wonderful thread.

I've never posted on a thread like this, but wanted to add a thank you to Dittany, and note than I'm yet another long-time lurker who has been influenced by Dittany's posts over the past few years: I discovered feminism really at the same time I had a baby and discovered Mumsnet, and that is due, in no small part, to threads and posts by Dittany.

So thanks for the thought-provoking writing, and I hope Dittany that, if you don't already, you now find an outlet as a feminist writer, whether in a book, for a blog or other publication.

epicfail · 18/09/2011 00:03

I am another some-time lurker, who is rather belatedly in life dipping toes into the subject of feminism because I have three teenage daughters. I am really disappointed that Dittany wont be here. Ive been reading some of her threads and am inspired by her passion and conviction. Thanks Dittany, I hope you do come back some day and I will continue to read your work here in the meantime.

AnyFucker · 18/09/2011 00:02

Red, Dittany felt she had no choice but to leave MN after coming under attack from several quarters

Oh and Thank you too!
