I hated Black Swan as well.

Blackduck · 14/09/2011 12:28

I thought Black Swan was positively dire. All women stab each other in the back, all mothers are jealous of their daughters, all girls lust after older men....It was dreadful and predictable...

ComradeJing · 14/09/2011 12:17

I didnt enjoy black swan. I thought it was unpleasant, misogynistic clap trap. The two scenes that were particularly vile were the one mentioned upthread with the director saying he seduced her and another where the other dancer spikes her drink. Yuk.

KRICRI · 14/09/2011 11:58

I'm not that keen on rom coms. They always seem to disappoint.

I really detest the promo poster for this film though. It seems to be on every other bus going by. Just yucko.

LRDTheFeministDragon · 14/09/2011 10:38

meanie. Grin

Off to change the world, a bit at a time...

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 14/09/2011 10:35

Sorry haven't seen it but I did LAUGH A LOT at LRD's sad plight.

edd1337 · 14/09/2011 10:34

I embrace change and love it. As long as it's for the better. Feminism may change the world, you personally can not

LRDTheFeministDragon · 14/09/2011 10:22

Edd, why are you so scared at the idea that feminism changes the world? You're able to read and write; you must have been to school and have some sense of how far we've come. Is it the idea that you might have to change too that's frightening?

edd1337 · 14/09/2011 10:20

But they didn't did they?

DontCallMeFrothyDragon · 14/09/2011 10:17

The censorship boards can demand film makers take certain things out of films. They can also ban films. Understand, Edd?

HTH

edd1337 · 14/09/2011 10:10

Why are you doing nothing about it then? You can't stop film-makers from doing this by the seems of things

LRDTheFeministDragon · 14/09/2011 10:06

Why cause a fuss about jokes about rape? You really don't see why?

Is that because you're a sick individual, by any chance?

No-one has suggested rape is the same as jokes about rape. But we are still concerned and upset by them. Because they are disgusting.

If you still don't get it, read my post again. Slowly. Feel free to do it over and over until you understand.

edd1337 · 14/09/2011 10:01

Yep, I do this everyday LRD

My point was you don't seem to get it. It's not the same, why cause a fuss?

LRDTheFeministDragon · 14/09/2011 09:58

No shit Sherlock. Telling you to fuck off probably isn't as bad as your mummy catching you wanking over a website of women talking about rape, either. See how comparisons don't add anything to the discussion? HTH. Smile

edd1337 · 14/09/2011 09:54

jokes about rape =/= rape in films

it's not as bad if it's joked about in films, it's when it happens

FlamingoBingo · 14/09/2011 09:50

edd - it's not rape in films she's objecting to, if you bother to read the post properly, but jokes about rape.

SGM - No I haven't seen it, but I want to.

I'll have a look at that one, christine.... :)

For some reason, the bit with the dance instructor really stuck in my mind.

Oh, bless you edd, I'm sure you've no idea which is which. Grin

The suffragetes never discussed things. They just acted. Likewise, we never do anything, we just talk. As women are wont to do.

Shite, I'm wrong again!

BellaneyMimphus · 14/09/2011 09:47

Everyone I know who saw Black Swan declared it laughable.

ChristinedePizan · 14/09/2011 09:46

I haven't seen Friends with Benefits so shouldn't really be on this thread :o

ChristinedePizan · 14/09/2011 09:45

No, me neither really but that is generally a better film.

Ooh I'd forgotten about the whole bit with the dance instructor which was horrible (I saw it nearly a year ago).

I thought the whole thing was pretty creepy tbh and no, it really doesn't portray women in a good light. Or ballet for that matter
