I loved, loved some of those comments in the blog. There were some fabulous arguments, but I'm afraid being a Very Silly Person my favourite was

"Code: brown."

Also plan at some point to nick "Who left their cheese sandwich unsupervised at the keyboard? Because I think it?s typing."

Grin Grin Grin at "Damn those misandrist chairs and their man-hating hardness!"

Beachcomber · 20/03/2012 12:55

Thanks for the update - I like the article.

Tom Martin's ignominious failure, and his hysterical reaction, is dealt with here:

Tilly they will decide how much costs he has to pay after carrying out an affordability assessment thingy.

So maybe he won't have to pay anything?

That seems wrong.

WasabiTillyMinto · 16/03/2012 20:13

And he has no right to appeal and will pay lse's costs. oh poor didums. I still want to send him a shit in a box!

ButterPecanMuffin · 16/03/2012 20:10

What comments does he receive and from whom?

Comments he has gotten (and still gets at times) from some of the boys (well I guess they're men now) he went to high school with, asking him why he wants to take such a "pansy" subject, and asking if he's gay. Stupid really, and he just laughs it off, he wants to be a human rights lawyer and a major focusing on equality is a good undergrad foundation for when he moves on to law school.

No-one at Harvard comments, they're all far too intellectually evolved to be so churlish.

AlistairSim · 16/03/2012 20:02

Heh.

That's cheered me up no end.

Wonderful decision NSF, and snigger indeed. I just love that this MRA went to Gender studies and then sued that it didn't include men. Huge fail. I'm actually pleased that we are no longer listening to this shite.

ButterPecanMuffin · 16/03/2012 19:10

Had to look at the first link, to see what this was about, as I hadn't seen this before. I am glad to see it didn't get any further.

Anyway, I must send the original link this to my younger brother, I'm sure he will find it amusing as he is majoring in Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies (known as WGS) at Harvard. (You can just imagine some of the comments he gets about his choice of major). I'm sure he'll be wondering why this guy applied to the course in the first place.

SardineQueen · 16/03/2012 18:41

Just staggering.

NormaStanleyFletcher · 16/03/2012 17:52

An update

It's not "Lola" anything, it's lol at ...

I'm glad he/she did bump the thread though, I hadn't seen it when it was new. Everyone deserves a chance to snigger at the pompous twit with thing up arse.

aliceliddell · 19/09/2011 13:01

'lola' is very nearly an anagram for 'troll'. I wonder if whatsisname is suing SOAS for inherent race discrimination against white people who aren't Oriental or African? If not, why not? Ooh, let me guess...

MarginallyNarkyPuffin · 19/09/2011 12:58

If you want to know more about who the man is see here. He responds personally in the comments section.

Here is the link to his page on Twitter. Who knew you could fit so much loathing into one page?

KRITIQ · 19/09/2011 12:56

lola, positive discrimination is illegal in the UK, although I am aware that there are programmes like affirmative action in the US. Positive action (e.g. a statement saying "we encourage disabled people to apply because they are underrepresented in our organisation," is something different because the decision in the end is still "open."

The whole reason why there is a need for positive action is to level what is a very uneven playing field. Gender discrimination is institutionalised. It's so much a part of the "fabric" of our lives, political systems, businesses, public institutions, etc., that it's rarely questioned. Men, particularly those holding other privileges say based on class, ethnicity, education, sexuality, etc., are automatically advantaged by the set up.

Your last sentence is really off, imho. Are you trying to say that feminists should not be allowed to discuss issues here? Frankly speaking, if you don't like it, no one is forcing you to read it. Don't let the screen door hit your behind on the way out and all that . . .

Although the guy himself may be an idiot, it does not mean he does not have a point. It is extremely clear in today's world that women are seen as victims while men are the victors. I am not saying this isn't true sometimes but definately not on the scale we're made to believe. Worst of all is the fact feminists are 'striving for gender equality' and that the governemt are now using positive discrimination towards women. Any sort of discrimination is wrong yet i find it amusing at how many peopleturn a blind eye when its for women but when its against them they start a furore. Moreover most of you people on this talkboard are just talking for the fun of it and would do most people a favour by keeping quiet.

joaninha · 06/09/2011 20:02

So does this mean I can sue all the educational institutions I've attended since I was 5 for boring my pants off with Harolds, Williams and Henrys, the Romans, Egyptians, a whole list of sodding battles and weapons I couldn't give a toss about, and teaching me practically nothing about women's lives in the past?

This reminds me of this guy who told me that the problem with the BBC was that ALL the producers were women. I looked it up. It was about 40%. White men have been used to having it all about them for so long that when the balance is redressed even slightly, it all seems askew to them.
