when you engage with the trolls

. . . is it a personal thing (actually engaging emotionally) or are you communicating with a wider, more silent audience or are there other motivations?

I can't work out why more people don't ignore them, but every now and then the exchanges are unintentionally funny or interesting - although mostly it gets very dull very quickly. Wondering what's in it for them too.

Male privilege you say?

So there's a chance if we rape we wont get convicted, I suppose that's a privilege for rapists, not all men are rapists though

There's the pay gap, apparantly we're paid more for doing the same job. Why do you complain when women retire earlier?

There's more men in government could be another. These men also deal with women, hardly a privilege

Lets look at where women are privileged shall we?

Tax credits are always paid into the womens bank account
Women get cheaper car insurance
Women 95% of the time get full custody of the kids after seperation AND can stop men from seeing the kids to no consequence
Women can commit paternity fraud and not suffer a consequence
A woman can make a false DV allegation and not be punished, if a man were to do that it'd be a different story and he'd be laughed at

I would have mentioned asset splits after divorce, but women can also get taken to the cleaners as well

Do explain these male privileges

BecauseImWorthIt · 05/09/2011 14:19

You might be happy, MrsR, but evidently there is some dissatisfaction on this board. I was wondering what others wanted/hoped for? I think it's actually really difficult for MNHQ to do much more than they do, but I can appreciate that there are some types of 'offenders' where it's more complicated.

giyadas · 05/09/2011 14:18

In the spirit of giving you the benefit of the doubt, Bob, here's a few links which you may or may not find useful.

troll accusations aside, calling out other men on their use of rape jokes was a good thing to do imo, I hope you do that in real life.

MrsReasonable · 05/09/2011 14:10

BecauseImWorthIt, I think MNHQ does a fine job of dealing with trolls. Posters can report posts, MNHQ can look at the posts. The problem is the reporting stage - some posters will report anything, others will never report stuff even if they find it offensive. I don't expect anything more of MNHQ.

edd1337 · 05/09/2011 14:08

Delete the posts and ban them? Warn them at least

Depends if MNHQ see posts as trolling

Bob, I haven't seen you anywhere else on Mumsnet. Why not try posting in some of the other threads as well as here? There's some really interesting stuff out there.

And I return to my original question that I asked a while ago. When it comes to trolls anywhere on MN, what do we want/expect/hope MNHQ to do?

brokendreams · 05/09/2011 14:04

bob[13.41]
[but im already at a disadvantage here..im a man]
but bob...you have the advantage that youre a man.
[as for my male priveledge im completly baffled as to why i keep getting this said to me...]
[im not exercising any male privaledge here]
you exercise male privalege everywhere you go and everything you say bob!

i cant make up my mind whether you are a mra/someone on a wind up/or genuine bob.
ok-giving you the benifit of the doubt....do youreself a favour...learn about what male privaledge is...you will not be able to join in discussions[i feel]unless you understand what this is.
i am actually beggining to feel quite sorry for you-you are making a pigs ear of things arent you.

MrsReasonable · 05/09/2011 14:01

Please don't leave, Bob, I think your posts have been good.

bob....my posts concerning you have been in a jovial manner[or did you not notice]
you havent been nasty to me so i havent been nasty to you.
[try finding youreself in a situation where................]
well-bob.....try finding youreself in a situation where...youve seen the damage caused by a rapist with youre child...and now you live in fear[terror]
of it happening to youre youngest child aswell.
the fear keeps you awake at night...and stuff i dont even want to talk about.
so...when a fella comes along and says"try finding youreself in a situation where".....cant you see how this might wind people up bob?
its statements like this that has led to you being in the posision that you are on here.
you cant see youre male privaledge and this is giving you problems.

CRIKRI · 05/09/2011 13:27

If a person has a post deleted or gets banned, responsibility for that rests squarely with that person. No one can "get someone to write something abusive" or get someone banned. If a person feels provoked or baited, it's up to them whether to write a response that is in breach of site rules, or to put down the mouse, make a cup of tea, change the litterbox, whatever.

The emerging pattern seems to be to bait these "trolls" whoever they are, get them to write something abusive then get report their posts in an attempt to get them banned

Strange behaviour tbh

Well AnyFucker thanks for the Brew and Biscuit.

They are about all that is left of this thread.

edd1337 · 05/09/2011 13:15

I know that, but i've actually read that excuse before. I can't back this statement up however, if I find the link i'll let you know

Gaining equality is a good thing, I for one am all for it

SinicalSal · 05/09/2011 13:10

No no no Edd - common mistake - women gaining equality is NOT taking rights away from men - there's enough to go around.
