Blimey.

I may have to reassess my attitude to Chris Evans.

Like that marxist arsehole who was on the radio saying that men should be allowed to verbally abuse women and there's no harm in it Hmm

SardineQueen · 09/08/2011 19:44

Christ what a wanker.

Men get very upset when they think their rights over women are being scrutinised/questioned don't they.

HandDivedScallopsrgreat · 09/08/2011 19:39

There is also this Jeremy Irons which appeared today. The line "If a man puts his hand on a woman's bottom, any woman worth her salt can deal with it" reminded me a great deal of Wamster.

Ironically the Sun printed this on one page and then a double page spread of Jeremy Irons in his latest film Hmm.

SardineQueen · 09/08/2011 19:02

Hahahaha yes it was very familiar, I did wonder. But he was citing a particular case through the whole article which made me think that this is just a cliched idea.

Oh no women don't complain about anything because you are painting yourselves as victims
Oh no women don't complain about anything because there are more serious things to complain about (and I will tell you what they are)
Oh no women don't complain about anything because now you are going to far and causing more harm than good

Riiiiiiight.

Oooh, that's interesting Sardine.

SardineQueen · 09/08/2011 17:56

for your perusal would be interested what others make of it.

SardineQueen · 09/08/2011 17:55

There was a thing in the paper today which is pertinent to this. Someone sharing wamster's POV. Will find and paste.

SardineQueen · 09/08/2011 17:31

What's towie mean?

Kallista · 09/08/2011 16:51

A lot of soldiers are ok actually! - just normal guys.
My cousin's DH is a marine & I know a few forces / ex-forces guys.
Yes some drink & fight too much - lads do.
But at least they are down to earth, friendly & make nights out more interesting. There are too many TOWIE type men in my town.

madwomanintheattic · 09/08/2011 16:20

the bp thing is very common. most garrison towns in the uk or germany have an entire street or list of premises which are no-go for soldiers.

interesting in light of the riots, as well as from the female safety perspective. mostly it's to stop them fighting each other/ locals and trashing the place.

lemonmuffin · 09/08/2011 14:07

Good post wamster. And yes you deserve an apology - wouldn't hold your breath tho Grin

SardineQueen · 09/08/2011 13:47

I'm sorry that there was confusion and you got accused of things you hadn't done, wamster. It can't have been very nice.

I still disagree with you though Grin

Wamster · 09/08/2011 13:37

Funny old thread this, isn't it? Bit of a case of tables being turned.

Seems that those who claimed to not like rudeness and persistence on the part of men by the end of the thread became the rude ones themselves because, while I appreciate that mistakes can be made and I absolutely accept that swallowedafly was mistaken as opposed to blatantly lying, if I were her and a few others now I would mumble a few words along the lines of 'sorry' yet they still cannot/will not apologise for causing somebody else upset for their rudeness.

Yet men are supposed to be polite to them at all times. Hmm Well, I think that if people who accuse others of rudeness need to be polite themselves (or at least try).

Myself? Well I admit that I made a few mistakes on the thread, perhaps I did take over and I am genuinely sorry if a few people felt that I was not respecting their stories of genuine abuse and violence.

So that is it, sorry to those who have experienced threats at hands of abusive and threatening men. Being sworn at, groped, hit, and made to feel unsafe is not acceptable.

No more for me to say on this thread.

sgm - interesting. these days (some of) the local women line up to snare them. it's a bit tragic. and too many babies born to local girls who don't know the father's name (or won't divulge it if they do). v sad. it's the military women that don't go out to the same places, because they are then expected to behave in the same way as (some of) the local girls. there are a fair few soldiers that marry the local girls though - and leave town with them. Grin rather than without them. sometimes with a bit of help from an unplanned pg... Grin

might not be the same place though. but can't think of another big camp.

queue of cabs arrive every morning at 7am to drop off the blokes who pulled in town though.

Kallista · 09/08/2011 00:23

Getting back to the original subject (if anyone still wishes to); my sister (who is stunning, size 8 & wears tiny dresses when out at night) gets 'pestered' by men a lot. She doesn't say she has a boyfriend because she hates lying & is pretty assertive.

She has 2 methods: if she feels a bit sorry for the guy then she will say he's not her type but will be friendly & chat for a bit. But if a man is arrogant & won't stop insisting on buying a drink then she is very naughty & orders the most expensive champagne in the club. She then blatantly ignores the man & shares the champagne with her mates. I wouldn't recommend it, because it can win you a nasty enemy. Especially if the man in question turns out to be a thug or criminal. But that's her method.
As for me - I never get pestered by men these days. BUT...I feel like the invisible woman :( & it's not nice. I would rather have to get rid of men than not get any attention at all!!

AnyFucker · 08/08/2011 20:45

saf, nobody worth a jot thought you were lying

DontCallMePeanut · 08/08/2011 20:44

Agreed with SAF. Saf, we never took it as you "lying" anyway. I know I didn't
