Eh? I thought being delicate was a good idea with all babies, because they're babies?

OP posts:
HerBeX · 16/07/2011 09:43

I expect she is a delicate soul. Grin

katkitya · 16/07/2011 09:43

I love the name and I'm upset to see how it has been slated on this site. He's thrilled and overjoyed to have a baby girl. If he has old fashioned ideas than, so what? I'm sure Harper will run rings around them all. He's just a bit giddy that's all. I wish them all the best. I think they are a lovely family unit.

LoveBeingAbleToNamechange · 16/07/2011 09:40

I like the name harper, thought it was English?

I think db's impression of the female sex has come from vb though so I expect she likes to be treeate as a delicate soul.

AwesomePan · 16/07/2011 09:36

I'd put the obsv re girls and boys as 'incorrect, and he will learn how incorrect he was when Harper is having her big brothers run round after her' sort of thing. And I am reckoning he doesn't have to be sub-Einstein to make this remark.

And I am liking the name and the reasoning.

doggiesayswoof · 16/07/2011 09:35

Yep that's just depressing HerBex. And not at all my experience of how dads I know (DH included) react to having new babies of either sex.

But then DH identifies as a feminist, so he's probably not in the majority

HerBeX · 16/07/2011 09:31

God how awful it is to feel more protective of one child than another and for that to be considered OK.

That makes me cringe tbh.

Sad
TheHumanCatapult · 16/07/2011 09:19

poor guy lets be honest a lot of dads feel more protective of daughters and its been a while so has had time to forget just how small they are

HerBeX · 16/07/2011 09:19

"Gets moaned at for it, by people who have nothing to do with him or his family"

He didn't make a comment about his family. He made a comment about girls and boys in general.

A stupid comment. But DB is pretty and kicks footballs well, surely we can't expect him to be Einstein too?

AwesomePan · 16/07/2011 09:15

Round - I reckon you're right.

AwesomePan · 16/07/2011 09:14

doggie - yes of course it's a bit off, but ..I quite like DB ( and suspect VB isn't quite as bad as made out to be) and remember when dd was born and how one goes all squidgy and daft especially over baby girls and talk a load of tripe.

Infact me and David have a lot in common.Grin

RoundOrangeHead · 16/07/2011 09:13

give her a couple of years and she'll be ruling the roost

Jointhedotties · 16/07/2011 09:13

Love the name Harper but I am chuckling at the idea that she was named after the author. It was a wizard character I believe?

I spend much of my time telling my DD to be gentler with her brother, BTW!! Grin

Excuse awful grammer and typo's - bouncing baby on knee!

bytheMoonlight · 16/07/2011 09:10

Yes Frosty littering your posts with as many insulting phrases towards me makes your logic sound Hmm

Your point is, I think it's very hard to work out between the deogratory comments) was that any name would attract the same evel of critisim, my point is your logic does not hold water for example Jack and Adolf would not attract the same level of critisim.

Do you understand the concept of applying a theory to all exmaples to make it credible?

Or can you only throw insults?

LilBB · 16/07/2011 09:10

His thoughts that girls are more delicate I would imagine he means when she older. He probably means he is used to rough and tumble with 3 boys and expects his daughter to be different. He's also expecting his house to be full of pink and purple. These are views held by a lot of people, especially those in marketing and design of toys. He may well end up with a girl who likes football and cars shock horror.

I don't have an issue with the name. I think it's much nicer than what they called any of their boys. I thought Victoria said a few years ago that she doesn't read books? Why does your child have to be named after anything why can't you just like a name? I found the name or my DC2 in a baby name book.

yes Moonlight but if they had called one of their kids Jack people would still have found something to criticise.

EricNorthmansMistressOfPotions · 16/07/2011 09:01

I thought that as well OP. All newborns are delicate FGS. They are already pigeonholing her as different and weaker than their boys. Whoever said boys are born with 30% more muscle - does that mean you slung your newborn boys around like a sack of spuds? Hmm because I remember mine feeling pretty delicate, myself.

doggiesayswoof · 16/07/2011 08:59

Pan I am always on the lookout for evidence to back up my 'David Beckham is a tool' hypothesis but I shouldn't really be commenting since I've not read the article.

It's a petty example, but it does pain me that girls and boys are parented differently from the word go. This sort of unthinking nonsense from a v famous person just reinforces the stereotypes.

bytheMoonlight · 16/07/2011 08:56

Oh dear Frosty, can you not remember what points you have made? How do you stand a chance of backing them up if you cannot even remember? It's good to know how strongly you believe in them that you cannot wven remember them 2 posts later"

I applied your logic of no 'name less likely to attract negative comments' to the names of Adolf and Jack. Can you see what I did there? I made the assumption that your point would apply to all names not just the names on this thread.

Norm - did you read the article? The author was the inspiration.

Well, isn't this thread pretty petty? DB states he recognises boys are a bit rougher etc usually than girls. Gets moaned at for it, by people who have nothing to do with him or his family. Excellent.

bytheMoonlight · 16/07/2011 08:49

No I am still chuckling at the thought that the name Adolf would attract the same level of critisicm as jack Grin Grin Grin
