I find this story very creepy. OK, it's been denied but I do hope the poor woman isn't being forced into marriage.

I read somewhere that she felt she had made only two friends in Monaco even after a few years of living there. That is terribly sad.

At least his father had the sense to choose a woman who could act Wink

So should they actually doo the deed - maybe she'll insist by IVF - and she produces an heir and spare - she can leave - but what about her kids?

No wonder Grace took to the bottle. I was aware Albert was a free-wheeler, but it seems he has unprotected sex all over the place - not quite what I'd fancy my Dh to do, no matter how much money he has .

Albert comes out as very uncaring and controlling in this (sorry about the pun) and the pics of him looking so harsh when CW is weeping in the church, bode very badly for him being in anyway sensitive to his bride. He looks like a thug.

I hope she gets an annulment asap. I don't think she'll get any help from her folks.
Her family think they've 'won the world cup' - and people were complaining that doors-to-manual et al were grabby!!!

If (and it's a big if) she had changed her mind, it's pretty hard to envisage the weddings being cancelled! This isn't quite like the Windsor wedding which was to shore up the monarchy, improve its popular appeal ahead of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, take the public's mind off the public sector cuts (virtually all the public royal weddings in Britain have taken place in times of austerity for the public) etc. It's a PR exercise, too but Monaco is in financial difficulties. The wedding was planned as an event to attract tourism and investment. There were commercial sponsors (lexus provided the wedding car, I think). It's not hard to imagine that if either party had expressed doubts, those would have to be cast aside. If either had changed their mind, there would need to be pressure exerted for it to go ahead.

She can maybe leave anyway if she provides heirs. Albert seems pretty free-wheeling...

This interests me. We have a successful woman, yet she's "trapped" into marriage?

Aside from it seeming to be only the red-tops and chat shows that give this rumour any credence: does the ease with which this (much denied, including from her side) rumour has taken route and struck a chord, speak of a wider patriarchal assumption that females are inherently weak and controllable?

TheRealMBJ · 06/07/2011 05:52

How awful Sad. can't imagine what it must be like to want to go home (to your mum) to escape an unhappy marraige and then be bullied persuaded to stay in what is then essentially a prison of luxury.

Awful

I did read an article (many years ago) that Princess Grace had to undergo a "medical" to see if she was suitable for Prince Rainier i.e. able to bear children, a virgin (which she wasn't and was really worried about it) Hmm. And that is now tying in with your comment LilBB about CW having to provide a legitimate heir.

This is very sinister.

Bue · 04/07/2011 14:34

I don't think anyone's as bad as the British tabloids! Albert's lawyer threatened to sue, then retracted the threat. Who knows, but that seems to suggest there's a whiff of truth to the whole thing...

I feel sorry for CW. I hate the idea that you must radiate joyous happiness all day on your wedding day, but that was a strained looking bride if I ever saw one.

LilBB · 04/07/2011 13:32

There is something a bit strange about it all. The rumour seems to be that she provides a legitimate heir and in return gets to live a life of luxury. Didn't the story of her trying to escape come out in the Franch press? Are the tabloidy like a lot of the UK press or a bit more serious?

He has two confirmed illegitimate children and a third is being tested soon. However it seems he has little to do with any of them. What a lovely man he must be.

oohlaalaa · 04/07/2011 10:05

I think she's smart. I think she'll stay with him for a couple of years, a couple of legitimate children, and then multi-million pound divorce settlement.

Sounds like there is a lot of money at stake, and she was under a lot of pressure at the least.

Not easy to leave with no passport and a head of state in your way.

This story is incredibly sinister. I'm surprised it hasn't attracted more discussion on here.

Dorje · 02/07/2011 01:18

Unless of course she had no passport and couldn't leave - or are you suggesting she swam to france and illegally entered the EU?

AwesomePan · 02/07/2011 01:06

no, she is a very grown up woman, and a sports star which suggest she is very focussed and self-determined. IF she didnt wish to marry she won't. It's really easy.

Dorje · 02/07/2011 01:02

I wonder how many kids he has and how many mistresses. He has one that we know about. I always thought he was bisexual too?
I certainly think she's not very happy about this - look at Caroline's face in the BBC video - like someone died.

MardyBra · 02/07/2011 01:01

OK it's a rumour so this is all speculation.

But surely what you are arguing Pan, is that IF she is being coerced into marriage, the it's OK because she buying into a life of luxury. Hmm

OP posts:
AwesomePan · 02/07/2011 00:53

oh come on! She's 33 years old. All there is is a rumour. They have been a couple for years. "Lady Di" she ain't.

MardyBra · 02/07/2011 00:49

AwesomePan That's the thing - it's like she's in some gilded cage a la Princess Diana. Just because he's loaded, doesn't mean she isn't being oppressed. Plus, as Liluri points out, like Diana, they seem to want some sort of brood mare.

OP posts:
Liluri · 02/07/2011 00:44

The clock's ticking as the groom is teetering on the brink of wrinkliness.

There'll be stern looks all round if she's not pregnant with an heir by the end of the week.
No pressure!

She's pretty much guaranteed a fab view of the Grand Prix though, so swings and roundabouts ....

AwesomePan · 02/07/2011 00:41

I know. She looks guilt-ridden at accepting a life of unimaginable luxury. But I suspect whatever 'secrets' come out, I am sure she will endure them, at a price..
