No? That will be because it is the Womens' World Cup

What a surprise that it is not even being mentioned on the news.

It is a bloody outrage Women's sport is never on the sports pages or TV except tennis (which I don'tlike) or (rarely) athletics which I do like. Dd's PE teacher's daughter plays footie, proper team and everything The England rugby and cricket teams often outperform the men's sides. So there.

This is a feminist issue why?
(BTW as reported above, it has been reported in the news and all England matches are shown on the BBC)

Yama · 01/07/2011 19:59

I think you can watch it through your Red Button PrinceHumperdink.

It's been talked about on Radio Five Live all week.

PurpleStrawberry · 01/07/2011 19:56

Final score: New Zealand 1-2 England - wahoo!

AuntieMonica · 01/07/2011 09:21

I knew too, but not kept up with it Blush

The DS and DH have discussed results

iskra · 01/07/2011 09:16

I knew. But I was captain of the women's football team at uni Wink

I think it's the kind of thing the BBC should show to help bring it more mainstream.

It is shown on Eurosport on the Sky platform. If you haven't got Sky, you can watch Eurosport's coverage by buying a month's access to the Eurosport Player for about £3.50, which enables you to watch it live on your PC, as far as I know.

I didn't know it was on. Women's sport is rarely mentioned in the UK.

We've just got back from visiting DH's family in Israel, and there was women's basketball and women's volleyball on the main sports channel every night we were there. I think it was some kind of world cup. But I was so impressed that they were showing women's sports as mainstream.

Though if there had been a men's game on instead.....

ivykaty44 · 30/06/2011 23:14

Yes the womans football - we do far better than the men at this sport.

Did you know about BLIND football and how well we do at blind football in the world cup?

I hate football whoever is playing.

OmicronPersei8 · 30/06/2011 23:01

Well, people in the feminism section do. I'm not sure about a wider range of people. I only know because I vaguely remember reading something about it a few weeks ago and then I looked through those photos at the weekend. I don't watch football (and neither does DH) but I would definitely be aware if it was the men's world cup, as it would be unavoidable, with flags up everywhere, merchandise in supermarkets, games on in pubs etc.

Spatz · 30/06/2011 22:58

I knew.
Watched first game. Just like the men - expected to win and gained a valiant draw.

PGTip · 30/06/2011 22:57

It's been mentioned on Radio 2 a lotSmile

MmeLindor. · 30/06/2011 22:56

Oh, I stand corrected. People do know it is going on.

I was looking through this in the Guardian the other day. I don't know much about football (women or men's) but I found it fascinating - great photos and they all sounded very interesting and talented. In fact that's reminded me, I wanted to show DD the photos.

PurpleStrawberry · 30/06/2011 22:49

The final is 17 July.

England have played one game so far, a 1-1 draw against Mexico, their second game is against New Zealand tomorrow. It's a must win.

Hope Powell is still manager and rumour has it she'll be manager of the GB women's team for the 2012 Olympics.

Meglet · 30/06/2011 22:44

I did. I think it was in the sunday sports section last week.

Don't know how we're doing though. When's the final?

Hope Powell is still manager isn't she?

bullet234 · 30/06/2011 22:38

Yes. The BBC have mentioned it on several occasions.

PurpleStrawberry · 30/06/2011 22:37

I've been following it, I enjoy the women's game, you don't see disrespect towards the referee or many (if any) theatrics!
