objectification!

ok, this is a serious question
i was talking to a female friend of mine recently, she's educated and emancipated etc, i said "i dont get the 'objectification' argument, i've never once been aroused by an object"

she laughed and told me "it's object as apposed to subject " "ahhhh" i said as though it had just dawned on me what she ment.

if your objective your inpartial, well thats my understanding anyway, and subjective meants your subject to some other force , influencing your opinion.

maybe one of you can fill the gaps for me ?

Objectify women not objective women.
Off to read the dictionary again.

I think Dadof2 after reading this I would answer your questions thus:

  1. Using photo/video images made with your DP or DW with your mutual consent in your sex-life when together or apart does not constitute objectification. You all are co-participants and co-users.
  1. Using the same sort material made by people you don't know in order to masturbate is objectification whether the images are "hard" or "soft" core porn. There is no interaction, consent or coparticipation, just consumption. You consume the porn "product" and have no interest in/relationship with the person in the images.
  1. You don't tell your DW about your porn use because on some level you already know this and feel shame about it -and this is why you are asking here, you are looking for validation.
  1. A person does not objective themself: that would be an oxymoron. Objetification by definition is something that happens to you done to do you by other people.
  1. Thus, if you don't want to objective women, stop using porn. It's that simple. There are no loops holes, no get-out-of-jail free cards. It's up to you and you alone. Porn works on supply and demand, if lots of men did not consume it, did not objetify women, it would not exist. By using your "soft" porn you are encouraging all its types, even the ones you think abhorrent.

I would like to think you are being genuine, hence my reply. If you have no intention of changing your mind and are just looking for a fight, bugger off back to AIBU.

GrimmaTheNome · 24/06/2011 16:04

what do you think of nude imagery that isnt pornographic? does that also sadden you?

what's a bit sad is that some people will objectify any nude imagery ... thinking back to the nuffield science text book I came across once, the picture of human bodies carefully folded to hide the male, with stains on it.... part funny, part gross but a bit sad too.

LilBB · 24/06/2011 16:04

It depends on the image and the reason for it. I have seen something on a documentary where women who have body images have tasteful nude photographs done that seemed very empowering. I have seen an art piece that was photographs of lots of nude people who have normal bodies. If it's done to educate people about what a normal body looks like, that everyone is beautiful even if they aren't 'perfect' then that's good too. If the nude photograph is not for sexual gratification or is done for a good reason then I dont have a problem with it.

Please done im me the details that got you banned.

dadof2ofthem · 24/06/2011 16:02

dadof2ofthem · 24/06/2011 15:53

LilBB what do you think of nude imagery that isnt pornographic? does that also sadden you?

as for my wifes opinion, i could go into detail but last time i went down this road i was slaughterd in the thread and ended up getting banned, so i figure i better stay away there . if your really interested i will im you.

oh is tht what he does AF?

HerBeX · 24/06/2011 15:53

I don't really know why you're comparing the Chippendales to porn

They are just oiled gay dancers aren't they? Women don't sit there wanking to them, they scream and laugh at them. That's not quite the same response - women find the chippendales funny don't they, in a camp way? Porn isn't supposed to make you laugh it's supposed to make you wank.

AnyF · 24/06/2011 15:51

like Alice said, this poster was banned for doing just that, probably best not to engage him in more of the same

just because he started the thread this time, doesn't confer any more respect for the rubbish he spouts

he will be knocking one out right now

AnyF · 24/06/2011 15:49

oh for crying out loud

is this yet another thread where dadof gets to inform us all about his use of dubious material? In more detail this time ? Lovely.

How long 'til we get the intimate details of how he pleasures himself while doing it ?

I can't wait, personally

I am against porn and the sex industry but that doesn't mean nude imagery shocks me, it saddens me.

I personally find it odd that your wife has no opinion on porn. Dont you talk about it with her? Dont you ask her the questions you have asked us? I know my husbands views on porn, I know that he has watched it in the past and I know that he does not use it now. If he felt the need to use porn that would be a problem for me.

TimeWasting · 24/06/2011 15:39

It isn't innate that boys play with cars and girls play with dolls.

Porn is totally objectifying, the woman is there purely for your self-gratification. Not only is she likely to have been coerced into doing it, but it damages society. It makes sex about you and continues with the long tradition of women fulfilling men's needs.

What the fuck has being beautiful got to do with being a lawyer or doctor?
Will you encourage your sons to be beautiful doctors and beautiful lawyers?

It's good that you are thinking about this subject, but you need to listen to what answers your questions are receiving.

dadof2ofthem · 24/06/2011 15:33

you can conclude that i'm shallow from me saying 'it's nice to be beautiful'if you like .

no she doesnt
