Was Bristol Palin raped?

darleneoconnor · 20/06/2011 11:16

according to this bristol palin was so drunk when she conceived her son that she doesn't remember having sex.

Sounds like rape to me.

Then she was basically 'forced' to marry her rapist? WTF! Sometimes America sounds more like the middle east!

Quite a few forums are discussing this, with some

disgusting rape myths on this forum

Why do you think it's a gotcha?

Why do you seem to say that all men/boys are liars and that all women/girls tell the truth.

karmakameleon · 25/06/2011 23:16

Of course it is but there is a really tiny chance that she's lying that barely is worth mentioning. When people review autobiographies do they always repeatedly make the point the writer might be lying? I've seen that before but happy for you to point it out to me.

Given that 60% of NRPs don't pay maintenance, I'd say that more than half of families where the parents are separated probably don't need that particular father actually. Even men on benefits are considered able to pay a nominal £5 a week, so they can't be pleading poverty - it's simply that they don't want to pay. Any man who deliberately witholds financial support for a child they created is not a man who has that child's best interests at heart.

I'd also agree that any woman who deliberately excludes a decent father from being a part of that child's life, is also not putting that child's best interests at heart. However, how many women do that to the 40% of separated fathers who do pay maintenance?

They exist sure, no one is denying that, but the incidence is small in comparison to the numbers of fathers who pay no maintenance, abuse their ex-partners and let down their children.

Just answer the question Dittany.

Yes or No.

Dittany,can i ask you a genuine question?

Do you think families do need fathers?

And i'm not looking for reasons why they don't but reasons you might think that they do.

Sorry to CP this but would you tell me your thoughts on this?

That was my question.

AwesomePan · 25/06/2011 23:12

Karma - that's a tremendous leap of faith you are making there, and a dreadful judgement on people who are prepared to accept as truth all that they read.

I have no idea whether she is lying or not.
I have not heard both sides of the story.
I am not on the jury.

sunshineandbooks · 25/06/2011 23:05

He kept putting drinks in her hand, even though she didn't normally drink. No, he didn't put a gun to her head and force her to drink it, but he clearly wanted to get her to drink. Why was that I wonder? And, knowing that she didn't drink and would therefore be more susceptible to alcohol, he would know that any out-of-character behaviour he took advantage of would be exploitative. If that was my DS, I'd be deeply, deeply ashamed.

I say again, Nice guy! Hmm

karmakameleon · 25/06/2011 23:03

Is she lying reeling?

karmakameleon · 25/06/2011 23:02

Yes reading the account in the book anyone who thinks she gave informed consent really must hate women and girls.

reelingintheyears · 25/06/2011 23:01

And we were all there to witness Levi forcing the alcohol down Bristols throat were we not?

FFS.

karmakameleon · 25/06/2011 22:59

Nothing is wrong with saying not all men are rapists. But neither dittany nor I said all men were in the first place so not seeing why it is our job to correct the man hating statements. That should befor the man haters to do.

sunshineandbooks · 25/06/2011 22:57

Levi brought the alcohol even though Bristol didn't drink, and he kept putting a new drink in her hand according to the book. Bristol woke up having no idea what happened, and her friend had to tell her that she'd had sex with Levi.

If that's true (haven't read it first hand) then in my book it's rape, even if Bristol herself didn't see it as such. Knowing she didn't drink, he plied her with alcohol. Nice guy! Hmm

reelingintheyears · 25/06/2011 22:53

And what is wrong with saying that not all men are rapists?

Dittany...you still have not answered my question.

Thanks StyleandBooty.

Not much clearer... she doesn't remember what happened between sitting on the chair outside the tents and waking up in his tent alone. But later she calls it a 'foolish decision'.

One thing's for sure - she doesn't want to call it rape. Sad situation.
