Was Bristol Palin raped?

according to this bristol palin was so drunk when she conceived her son that she doesn't remember having sex.

Sounds like rape to me.

Then she was basically 'forced' to marry her rapist? WTF! Sometimes America sounds more like the middle east!

Quite a few forums are discussing this, with some

disgusting rape myths on this forum

karma exactly. I think it is very unhelpful to put a label on what happened other than the label that Bristol herself attributes to what happened.

Just because someone cannot remember what has happened does not mean they are too drunk to consent: I often have blackouts in my memory when I have drunk a relatively small amount. Is just the way I am.

MrsReasonable · 22/06/2011 10:01

"He had a memory of what happened. She didn't."

How do you know?

TheBossofMe · 22/06/2011 10:00

But people thinks its fine to call a young girl a liar who's making it all up to save her own face without knowing the full story Confused

TwoIfBySea · 22/06/2011 09:52

Being drunk is not absolution for crime ffs but you can't call rape without the full story.

TheQueenofDenial, afaik Bristol doesn't say she was raped. People here are working under the assumption that anyone who does not have a memory of what happened to them, was too drunk to give valid consent.

karmakameleon · 22/06/2011 09:44

Drunk people are still criminally responsible. Claiming you are drunk when you steal something, assault someone, murder them doesn't wash, why should it if you rape someone?

Drunk people can be still be outside and boastful, it is possible. I have tested this theory personally.

karmakameleon · 22/06/2011 09:40

I can't think of any other crime apart from rape where people think that being drunk absolves someone from criminal responsibility.

Wow, so is there evidence whether or not the boy was drunk also? In which case would you be banding around the word rape so easily?

That is a hell of an allegation to make and one way for sure to get even with an ex!

I'm horrified how men are immediately guilty and the woman innocent. This is how lives can be ruined you know as rape allegations stick whether right or wrong.

Catslikehats · 22/06/2011 09:31

Am I missing where Bristol Palin said she was raped?

AliceWhirled · 22/06/2011 09:30

Yep you see systematic lying to protect men - he didn't mean it, he had urges, it's just natural, men can't help themselves, they have neeeeeds.

karmakameleon · 22/06/2011 09:23

Thank you all, it was a long time ago and I can deal with it now. But it does make me sad that so many people on the feminist board could assume that she would lie to protect herself, when if she did lie it would be more likely that it was to protect him.

TheBossofMe · 22/06/2011 09:16

Oh Karma, just read your post - I'm so sorry.

TheBossofMe · 22/06/2011 09:15

dittany says "I think people are picking it apart because calling teenage girls liars is a popular sport in the patriarchy. Particuarly if they come from a family of women who it has been declared misogyny open season on"

I couldn't agree more, dittany called it spot on.

This is a girl who clearly feels some emotional pain over what happened to her, and instead of supporting her and the millions and millions of teenage girls that have felt pressured into sex, coerced into sex and forced into sex, we pick her apart just because she's a Palin. In the interests of full disclosure, let it be stated here that I disagree at a near-visceral level with almost all of Sarah Palin's political positions. But to label her young daughter as a liar and worse is really beyond the pale.

The shame of it.

Sorry, Karma Sad.

Thanks for the link, dittany.

When I was about 15, I got very drunk one night and a friend of mine took me outside to get some air and help sober me up. While we were outside, he sexually assaulted me. I lied and told everyone that I didn't remember what had happened, when actually I did, and I remember clearly asking him to stop.

So yes, teenage girls lie, but often to protect their rapists rather than because they said "yes" and then changed their minds.

buzzsore · 22/06/2011 08:51

Oh god yes - when Palin and Clinton were in the Presidential race, the misogyny was vile and so open. And I found the stuff against Palin particularly disturbing as it came from the left, the side I'd naturally lean to. Argh.

I imagine Sarah Palin is going to launch an anti-teen-drinking campaign pretty soon.

We are questioning how much Bristol might have fudged the facts (or even altered her own memory) for the same reason we should look critically at everything that is said in the media. Because people don't always tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, especially when they are teenagers in highly pressurised situations.

TrilllianAstra · 22/06/2011 08:36

All part of the message: don't drink kids, because "good girls" don't have sex and if you're drunk you might have sex and get pregnant.
