I hate it and Im not starting a thread to debate about it because i know its been done here before, but i am wondering if people can please help me to find some facts about porn. Rather than personal opinions on it. Of course feel free to debate/discuss/share opinions on it Grin

I am wondering if there is any info out there about the effects of it,facts about pay especially men V women, the devastation it can have on those involved and such.

I feel really strongly but not very good and stating my case so much and so i am asking for help! I want info/facts to back up my argument. sorry if it sounds a bit silly Blush

Facts about porn-(ish as can't be bothered to go and reference them all) 1/3 women use porn 70+ of men. Women typically paid much more, men tend to own most of the businesses - but that is changing.

Not all women are devastated by being on porn - some already devastated women do porn. Massive stigma and aggression against women who do porn from so-called feminists who like to peg women who do porn as subhuman and/or subjugated and exploited (and therefore weak enough to be). Many female porn stars are earning many thousands more than their non-porn working contemporaries doing lower paid, lower status jobs. Porn actresses typically do about 5 shoots a year (some loads more some a lot less obviously) for about 5 years - and earn about £3K to £20K a shoot. (some a lot more, some a lot less).

Side fees can be earnt doing glamour shoots, traditional modelling, or running personal fan websites, not to mention public appearances at erotic shows porn store openings, endorsements, magazine articles, interviews etc. The overlap between porn and some of the music industry also can generate extra funds (snoop Dogg has used several sex workers in his videos for example).

If we are going to have 'facts' why predicate the requests with requests for 'facts' only on 'devastation'???

Oh no I understood it - to be a creative and agressive re-write of almost all views about women and men to turn them all into negative ones - it is utterly awful. I came away thinking this woman really hates herself and is trying to get everyon to blame this on men. I think she even claimed that all diseases that women get are created by abuse by men - she was NUTSO.

Sorry but dworking is mental - I read 'intercourse' and it was full of the most utter paranoid shite I have ever seen.

Was actually speaking as a scientist doing a masters in sexual health. I do a lot of reading around porn particularly its effect on young people. But no matter.

Can see both sides of the argument but it can turn into a bit like the abortion debate in some ways with people hooking facts and evidence onto their opinions rather than using the overall body of peer reviewed solid evidence to help formulate their opinions. So at the minute I am on the fence, but happy to continue reading and learning.

facts- women usually get paid a lot more than men to star in porn films- one area where gender pay gap is reversed.

AFAIK evidence is inconclusive one way or the other. You can find a wealth of studies to support both sides of the argument. And officially the jury is still out...

Littlesez there is now a mountain of evidence about the harmful effects of pornography. A good place to start is the Stop Porn Culture website which has loads of resources:

Your question isn't silly and you will get plenty of advice and support from people here who feel the same way as you about this issue
