Apparently.

I am a little saddened that a forum mostly used by women, has decided that the feminist boards are the most frightening of the forum.

Why do we feel that is? What can be done to prevent people from feeling so intimidated that they are too scared t post?

Oddly enough, my son is very open to feminism, and women's rights. Having Aspergers and being able, he is also driven by logic.
Most reasons why women can't/shouldn't/mustn't are not based on logic and so don't make sense to him.

Goblinchild · 26/02/2011 01:16

That's why SN is opt in.

lemonsquish · 26/02/2011 01:15

How horrible...seems there are trolls everywhere. Some people have nothing better to do with their time.

Goblinchild · 26/02/2011 01:15

Don't be sorry LRG, they tend to stay out of our safe space, and those of us that argue on the main boards are usually up for it and confident about our stance. Hones you for when you face it in RL with a child in tow.

Oh, that is horrible Goblin. Sad

Sorry to have brought that up.

Goblinchild · 26/02/2011 01:10

We used to get trolls on SN, some of them very nasty. Now they tend to post their DLA and blue badge rants on the main boards, along with some of the more eugenics-based arguments.
So some of us take the fight to them.
Leaving the harbour.

Umm, SGM's the one whose posts persuade me back because they are interesting and I can't resist a well-formed argument.
She's not a squisher.
Just wanted to clear that one up.

I've been squished a couple of times on here, but not nastily. Just thoroughly. Grin
SGM is the reason I keep coming back.

SeeJaneKick · 26/02/2011 01:02

No LittleRedDragon...not always...I got HAMMERED on here once when I asked a "naieve" question which was coming from a good and genuine place. I was in shock afterwards. That was under my old name.

JaneS · 26/02/2011 01:02

hully, just for you:

It does seem we've been mistaken about what fem lite might be - first result from google. Grin

JaneS · 26/02/2011 00:59

Makes sense goblin. But you also see people come on here deliberately to stir - if someone starts a thread on something like changing one's name at marriage, or using ms, or similar, you can bet someone will be along shortly to take the piss. It's sometimes someone who hasn't seen the thread was in feminism, but there's a few regulars who just like to repeat the same opinions over and again, just to remind us that they can.

I think that's when people get a negative response mostly.

ah, bye bye little lost fem-lite

Goblinchild · 26/02/2011 00:54

LRD, you are right, it was set up to avoid people leaping in with comments relevant to children without SN.
But we get a lot of people wanting to find out more about the topic, parents, relatives of children with SN, people who work in the field and the all the rest.
Rather like the protofeminists you get here, wandering in with a naive question, asking what's wrong with X or Y as a genuine enquiry, wondering if they are feminists or not.
The response they get often determines whether they come back or not.

PeterAndreForPM · 26/02/2011 00:53

have to go bo-bies too

am glad someone started this thread though

MogadoredMemoo · 26/02/2011 00:53

"Feminism: A beginning" I like that!

I have to warn you though I have hundreds of questions, I am making notes as we speak in between rocking a very restless toddler to sleep

Hullygully · 26/02/2011 00:51

I'm taking pore little unwanted fem-lite with me

SeeJaneKick · 26/02/2011 00:51

I like the idea of a feminist book club...even if I dont post I will have a reason to read good literature and then a place to hear more about it than perhaps I took in....or if I am brave a place to share my thoughts.

Hullygully · 26/02/2011 00:51

I have to go to bed now (pj-less but still)

We are all daughters of Earth and we must love and help each other without fear or faltering.

PeterAndreForPM · 26/02/2011 00:50

hully...let your Fem-Lite baby go
