www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/celebritynews/8178285/Mick-Hucknall-apologises-to-1000-women-he-slept-with.html

The way I am reading this is he is that firstly he is sorry for being unfaithful to whoever he was with at the time - ok I get that.

But I am finding this a little creepy on other levels because I think if you apologise to your groupies, it implies you think you were taking advantage of them at the time? Or is it that he misled them all into thinking they were his only partner (at a rate of 3 a day, that'd be hard to do).

(please MN lawyers note I am not saying that Mick Hucknall has done anything wrong...)

DP reckons I am overthinking this which is quite possible Grin

In the original article on the Guardian website it explains that he was also an alcoholic, he has clearly undergone a lot of counselling/rehab and is just trying to apologise. Better than doing nothing and continuing to behave badly, not as good as not doing it in the first place of course.

iTigress - not sure Russell Brand is a gent, have you read his Booky Wook? Put me right off...

SpringHeeledJack · 03/12/2010 17:34

I do think there are men who just love variety, love having sex with women and the intimacy and yes, the 'chase' and can be fairly bemused if they leave a trail of broken hearts behind them. I did have an experience with a guy at college like this - he was gorgeous and an 'artist' type, had loads of women friends and seemed unable to help himself forming often overlapping relationships, and having flings left right and centre. I fell temporarily head over heels in lust with him, and got hurt, and he felt awful but couldn't help himself from chasing the next woman he became obsessed with. I really don't think he was selfish as such - I think of his type as a women-lover, he wanted to 'spread the love' I think Grin He was always a complete gentleman though. More Russell Brand than MH.

Just read the Guardian article - it says 3000 women in 3 years Hmm

Ewe imo the concept of sex addiction is a crock of shit. It's a handy phrase for someone who fails to understand it's a two-way process though. Addicted to abusing others for own pleasure - oh yes, you require understanding and empathy Hmm

DuelingFanio · 03/12/2010 17:20

why does he feel the need to apologise?
Why blame his mum?

odd.

bintofbohemia · 03/12/2010 17:20

Good point iTigress. By that token I was into a fair bit of manising in my time. And I'm not apologising! Grin

iTigress · 03/12/2010 17:20

...empathy and selflessness for example.

iTigress · 03/12/2010 17:18

yy Dittany re boasting, not apologising.

I detest the word 'womanising'. What does it even mean? If the connotation is 'having sex with many people in quick succession with little care for their feelings', why 'womanising'?

I'd like to 'womanise' him, as in imbue him with some of the most commonly found aspects of being a woman Xmas Angry

Ewe · 03/12/2010 17:15

Is he not just trying to give some perspective on how much of a mess he was?

Isn't he apologising because he is in recovery? Not sure what his addiction is (sex?) but apologising to people you may have hurt as a consequence of addiction is step 7 or 8 of the twelve step programme isn't it?

I suspect he is apologising due to abusing his fame, money and position and treating women like shit, I think it's a bit harsh to give him this much grief for apologising. He can't change the past so the only alternative to him apologising is him just not bothering at all.

bintofbohemia · 03/12/2010 16:57

Blimey, didn't hear about that. I wonder why the charges were dropped?

NonnoMum · 03/12/2010 16:21

...He still hasn't called...

Boo hoo.

bintofbohemia · 03/12/2010 16:09

dittany - sounds like you have an incredibly interesting MH story, can you not dish bits of it in a non-libellous fashion?

Janos · 03/12/2010 15:47

Still though swc..Damian Lewis! Grin

Bet he didn't think that at all

Errrrmmmmm, to follow the #simplybed thing. Not to find redheaded men to have sex with.

JenaiMarrsTartanFoxCube · 03/12/2010 15:38

I like/ed his hair too, dittany.

I have had many crushes on many redheaded men (although never MH). Shagged a few, too (although again, never MH).

I need to get on Twitter, don't I?

QuintessentialShadows · 03/12/2010 15:37

He probably apologised for being a bad lay.
