Elephants had this idea!!

So I'll start

"we're not a homogeneous mass..."
"I don't like to be too narrow..."

My OED has "misandry" as early 2o0th century, whereas "misogyny" is Mid-17thC, and "misogamy" (hatred of marriage") also M17C!

Going abit off topic but thats why the word misogyny exists and why the word misandry had to be invented quite recently. can't summarise adequately but this says it all, especailly the column down the left hand side.

Thanks!

As you say, it's not catchy, but sometimes breaking the rhythm of "catchy" phrases with a longer response can interrupt a dynamic.

sixpercenttruejedi · 23/11/2010 21:59

"Women can be just as sexist as men"
I have an answer to this, not sure how effective it is but I've found it to be better than saying nothing ; Sexism is the combination of prejudice and institutional and social power. Women don't have institutional and social power so can never truly be sexist.
I know it's not catchy, but it's true.

AliceWorld · 23/11/2010 21:33

"Equalist" is even better

plupervert · 23/11/2010 21:27

"well, I'm a Humanist, so I care about everybody. Feminists are just selfish."
Feminists are Fed Up

"well, I'm a Humanist, so I care about everybody. Feminists are just selfish."

Can we turn this around, please? I'm getting very depressed, and thinking of abandoning this thread, even though I know I shouldn't.

Maybe we can have some comebacks to these things, smart-mouthed, angry, or funny - doesn't matter, as long as it is more empowering than all the disempowering things being repeated here. (Yes, I know I said something, but I didn;t conside the effect of a full thread of these things).

By all means, keep posting "anti-feminist bingo" calls, but a few counter-calls would be welcome, too.

I'll start with :
"'they should think more about their children" - and the sort of world those children should grow up in

  • "it's just a bit of harmless fun" - all fun and games till someone loses an eye, eh?
-"men are the ones being discriminated against." Tricky, because it implies an unwillingness to see others' points of view, but what about raising the "helpmeet" ghost (sharing burden of Man), or pointing out the brutal reality of any kind of rape of females (stranger or marital): men are generally stronger, and what is better, sex or death?
Beachcomber · 23/11/2010 21:20

"Men don't get a fair share of maternity leave."

Men don't give birth you fuckwit.

StaceySolomonismyHeroine · 23/11/2010 21:11

"Women aren't visual"

Beachcomber · 23/11/2010 20:59

Hate to spoil the light hearted mood but;

"you think all men are rapists (even though you haven't actually said any such thing, I'm going to judge you as though you have)."

sixpercenttruejedi · 23/11/2010 20:28

drinking game! that's brilliant.

sixpercenttruejedi · 23/11/2010 20:27

It would need a very big card to fit all these on, yet would still probably be a quick game to finish. That's quite depressing.

AliceWorld · 23/11/2010 20:23

Now there's an idea! Sod book group Grin

' they should think more about their children'

'its all this selfish attitude that demands they have 'me' time'

AnyFucker · 23/11/2010 20:12

"Marriage is a financial transaction"

"Men get on-tap sex and women gain financial security"

Why are you protesting about when is so much more important.

StaceySolomonismyHeroine · 23/11/2010 20:11

"Women withhold sex"

StaceySolomonismyHeroine · 23/11/2010 20:10

"feminists have ruined it for other women"

"feminists have forced us all to go out to work when we don't want to"

Because of course, feminists are running the market, the global economy and parliament

TheFeministParent · 23/11/2010 20:08

What's wrong with wanting to stay at home with children? Feminists would all have us working.

OP posts:
PrematureEjoculation · 23/11/2010 20:00

'feminists need to be more open minded'

PrematureEjoculation · 23/11/2010 19:51
