I just feel so miserable that we are not able to actually discuess women's rights, on the women's rights section, seemingly ever.

All we ever talk about is men and I'm just really fucked off and bored with it. I feel like people just keep coming and stamping on my head.

so you advocate censorship to prevent a divergent view

behave

really,it isnt very intellectually rigorous to need exclusions and ring fenced space in case someone mentions men

interestingly you say "the only way to have the conversations we wanted".smacks of toe the line, wimmins ishoos.no divergent opinion

and cannot discuss feminnism without discussing and acknowledging men.given they are our collegues, brothers, partners.we dont live ina female only commune.so we impact upon men,men impact upon us

a lot of you misconstrue things not going your way as derailment.no not at all.is your chain of thought so easily distracted or ability to debate so shakeable that derailment is a threat to any topic

why cant you just acknowledge alleged derailment and continue as you wish

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 17/08/2010 18:15

oh yawn lemonmuffin, have a look at the Kate Smurthwaite thread and see if one poster can't take over a thread.

And I don't mind/care if people come on and say "actually I think X affects men too, in that a,b &c". It's happened before lots of times and mostly if it's explained posters here will agree, maybe change their viewpoint. It's when people use it as a silencing technique. So they say "but why are you complaining about low pay for women, when men suffer low pay too?" i.e. shut up about the pay gap, sort out men first then you can think about women, if you're lucky.

Agree with scottishmummy about this derailment thing.

No one person can control the conversation on an open internet forum, if you want to you need to set up your own private forum mouldies stylee.

It seems to me that accusations of derailment are now starting to be used when someone wants to control the discussion and silence dissenting opinions.

I don't post much just because you mainly do have a preserve. which is fine, but it is not rare to be told "go away that's not under discussion here". so I have largely gone away. I don't think it makes sense for you to want to give up . it would definitely be a sign that you need to join a spare rib type forum where that sort of discussion, probably quite exclusive in tone, might be more readily available.

Everybody barges everywhere here, it would be rude in real life but it comes with the territory here. heat.. kitchen etc. stick it out isn't. freedom of speech and all that.

no need to moan of course

MarshaBrady · 17/08/2010 12:22

I don't know if you are addressing me SGB. I am saying to people POST. Stop going on about a perceived style here.

I am saying need to moan about it, post.

Anyway I don't find Dittany et al 'militant' or whatever. Just a feminist. Probably as it was the norm in humanities academics 10 years ago.

scottishmummy · 17/08/2010 12:06

discursive forum, state your opinion, accept some verbosity and dont whine about derailment.derailment to me reads as boo hoo no one agrees with widdle me

SolidGoldBrass · 17/08/2010 12:00

Look, all those of you who are whining that you get 'told there is only one way to post' in the Feminism topic - do you never normally stray out of style and beauty or something? Because if you want an explosive, headspinning ruck, just try posting that you are going to FF from choice, or put your baby in nurseyr5 days a week cos you love your job so much. Being told that you're wrong WRT some of your opinions won't kill you. It might change your mind. Or if you can state your case sensibly without snivelling and calling for your mummy/lawyer/hubby to come to your rescue, you might even change the other person's mind.
