Has anyone read this, its not something I'd usually read, but I thought I'd give it a go!

Loved The twilight books, but totally grew up on Anne Rice who is still the modern queen of vamp/goth books for me. Meyer is a less imaginative version but found her books easy to get sucked into. Although I dislike Bella and Edward as characters (even more so after watching the films) I love her mythology behind the stories and the werewolves are my favourites. In America the fact that she's a Mormon seems to colour a lot of the debate about her plot lines, I find it hard to say that her religious background detracts from the story

Yep, I like Twilight but it in no way compares to the True Blood or Buffy books. That's real vampire fiction.

TeamDamon · 16/12/2011 18:07

Meh - I am a die-hard vampire fan (Buffy, Angel, True Blood and The Vampire Diaries - I'm there) but Twilight is just - crap. No wit, no irony, no clever writing, no sassy women or sexy men - just whiny whiny teenagers. I like teenagers (kind of goes with the job) but these teenagers really give teenagers a bad name.

Sookeh · 16/12/2011 17:57

I loved them. Still love them. Not ashamed Grin

Ok...maybe a teensy bit ashamed

SaggyoldCHRISTMASHUMBUGcatpuss · 28/11/2011 22:49

Total and utter DROSS! I actually listened to the first 3, in the hope that they might get better, and I got all 3 together in a job lot. Im just glad that I listened to them instead of wasting valuable eyeball time in this shit!

supermama212 · 18/11/2011 17:23

am looking forwards to the film! was going to see it tonight , but DD in hospital and am NOT turning into and old person bye going to the cinema alone tonight!

supermama212 · 18/11/2011 17:21

I read them before letting my DD read them! I couldn`t put them down, One night, i was reading the first one and was so interested i was still up at half past 4! Wink

glenthebattleostrich · 11/10/2011 21:13

The first was probably the worst book I've ever read.

YvonneMarie · 17/06/2011 20:00

To be honest I enjoyed all 5 of them (including the bree tanner book).
The first book took a while to get going, but after the character relationships start to develop I found myself hooked.

I know quite a few people who hated the books, but I found it good fun escapim, and reminds you how it felt to be a teenage girl.

minipinmad · 02/06/2011 13:17

Love love love them, so much so I'm having difficulty getting into anything else after them, can't wait til November to see what Breaking Dawn part 1 will look like on the big screen xox I'm very much team Jacob!!!

tallulahxhunny · 01/06/2011 21:45

I loved these books, hubby bought me them for xmas and it took me 2 weeks to read them all, i just couldnt put them down.

Edward was much nicer in my head than in the film btw ;)

TitsalinaBumSquash · 21/04/2011 20:10

I bloody love Twilight. :o

takewhatyoucan · 21/04/2011 20:10

Yes! Give them a try, but read with an open mind. I loved them but really cannot explain why, as they are not the usual thing I would read.

Here is a funny cartoon forwarded to me from a friend about why Twilight is so popular, but only read this if you have a sense of humour about the whole thing!

gailforce1 · 15/04/2011 19:30

More sex in twilight and new moon than BD then?!!!
Should i give them a try?

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 14/04/2011 20:37

1 twilight
2 new moon
3 eclipse
4 breaking Dawn

I also loved them all. Kind of going off them now, was disappointed by sex or lack of I think even the Tweens could have handled slightly more detail on that front. That's what made BD disappointing for me

gailforce1 · 14/04/2011 20:25

Please could someone put the series in order for me? Is the first book Twilight?
Thanks.

inni · 12/04/2011 14:33

wow love the saga I cant stop reading them. It's insane. I read them already 4 times each and I know I'll them again. Love Breaking down it's my favorite.

elisabetta · 29/09/2010 17:11

I read the books to see what all the fuss was about as all the girls in my class were reading them, while the boys said they were rubbish but they still all wanted to be Edward Cullen.

I agree with the other posts on how they are written but - I really enjoyed them, and who would not want an Edward Cullen following you around!!!

On saying that a friend is watching and reading her younger sister's 'The Vampire Diaries' apparently 'Damon' is HOT, HOT, HOT!

Read the first one, to see what DD was reading. I'm obviously in the minority here, but I thought it was a waste of a few hours of my life.

It had no pace, no plot, no characterisation. I'm happy to read trashy books, but they've got to have some kind of spark, and to me, this had none.

TooManyKids30 · 23/09/2010 18:00

Im now hooked on the Twighlight series and I am totally 'seeing' all the characters and I get totally absorbed. I read on my iphone with ibook store which makes it so simple to read all night in bed if i want so its become my obsession to finish the series! I would recommend these books as an escape from 'normal' life :) Just my opinion, not a saddo just a mum to 4 crazy kids :)

Jizzonface · 30/04/2010 00:14

It still wouldn't be book of the month.

Abortion · 30/04/2010 00:11

The only way this could be book of the month is if nothing else was released in said month.

Jizzonface · 30/04/2010 00:10

A disgrace to literature.

Abortion · 30/04/2010 00:09

Worst. Book. Ever.

maamalady · 26/01/2010 21:09

I've just finished the third book, but now have to wait to borrow the last one (several colleagues all reading them one by one - only one set of books between us!).

I completely agree that the writing is pretty awful and the characters rather two-dimensional, but somehow they have sucked me in anyway! I do like Edward and feel sorry for him as he is such a worrier, although I'm sure he'd be intensely irritating in real life! Bella is so clueless all the time it is rather annoying, but hey ho. I found I liked Edward much more after reading Stephenie Meyer's rough draft of Midnight Sun (available on her website) - it gave me a better insight into his way of thinking, which made me sympathise with his point of view much more than I had been up to that point.

The writing is poor and the characters badly drawn, but all the same I am still impatient to get my hands on the fourth book! It is quite embarrassing to be this obsessive - DH has been laughing at me for several days now for having such a one-track mind! I feel like it should not have sucked me in so easily what with me being nearer 30 than 20, but evidently that doesn't count for much!

Is it worth watching the film? I suspect it could be really dreadful, but perhaps my soft spot for Robert Pattinson would help to alleviate that!
