DH saw a trailer for it a few nights ago...I really enjoyed the book. Little bit worried that DH thought it was Cameron Diaz in trailer though...can anyone confirm? Hope the book isn't ruined by Hollywood like so many others have been before.

ooo it's the girl from Little Miss Sunshine, she was really good in that.
I'll wait for DVD for this though I think.

pscc · 19/07/2009 18:20

oh my god- the trailer has got me crying- and the kids are asking for more dinner- typical!

Noonki · 19/07/2009 18:20

don't do spoilers that show in the first line ... I shall now force myself to forget it...mind it was a rubbish book if addictive book so I probably won't gert around to seeing it until it hits DVD.

lisad123 · 19/07/2009 18:15

you really want to know??

Spolier

The cancer girl dies

I cried my eyes out. Still think they should have kept the book ending.

CheeryCherry · 19/07/2009 18:07

Go on then, spill, what is the film ending?

londonartemis · 19/07/2009 17:38

Saw the film. A real weepy - esp touching when cancer daughter has romance with fellow patient. Cameron Diaz did not annoy. Came across as a stressy mum with little vanity, but all absorbing need to save her daughter, without looking at the wider picture. In fact I thought she was very good. Yes, they changed the ending. I suspect they thought that would have been a death too far for the audience.

saranda · 16/07/2009 23:09

Ive read the book and cant wait to see the film even though I know they have changed the ending, but that just makes me more curious

NeedaNewName · 10/06/2009 23:44

How on earth could you change the ending - that is the whole thing about the bloody book.

My god I sobbed my eyes out when i read the end - DH actually thought there was somethng wrong with me, in my defense I pg at the time!!!

FfreckleFface · 10/06/2009 23:40

They've changed the ending?

The only good thing about the book was the ending.

Find her books horribly addictive though, even though they are pretty terrible. At least they don't take that long to read, so I'm not wasting too much time on them.

LolaLadybird · 10/06/2009 23:33

I read this when pg and liked one of the character names so much I ended up choosing it for DC1 so I guess I will always have a slightly special regard for the book.

I really enjoyed it but haven't enjoyed another Jodi Picoult book as much since - haven't read 19 minutes or Handle With Care though.

In fact, this thread has made me realise I can't remember the ending of Sisters Keeper so I'm quite tempted to re-read it.

paisleyleaf · 21/05/2009 12:33

The film of 'Plain Truth' was on telly a couple of months ago
and wasn't so good tbh

SamsMama · 15/05/2009 17:55

I'm actually kind of excited that they're changing the ending...I liked the book but thought the ending was sort of "major twist just to have a twist" kind of thing. I used to really like Jodi Piccoult (and still sort of do) but her books are really starting to get me down! I didn't even read 19 Minutes and I heard about the ending for Handle With Care and am passing on that as well.

nickschick · 15/05/2009 17:50

YAYYYYY I have my book dh and ds bought it for me .

ds3 insisted on using his tooth fairy money towards it.

PfftTheMagicDragon · 14/05/2009 07:50

They have changed the end of the film....

nickschick · 14/05/2009 07:16

mamadiva im trawling round supermarkets looking lol! at the min they only have it in hardback tho, thanks

mamadiva · 14/05/2009 07:14

Surely they have'nt changed the ending?!

That would defeat the purpose of the bloody remake surely

Nickschick I normally buy books from the Asda if I can't get them from the library, most of their books are around a fiver I think.

nickschick · 13/05/2009 15:29

elle 23,I will check amazon out -thanks for that-i did look on ebay but they are v dear on there too-ive been lucky the past couple of times Ive gotten them half price in whsmiths......

elle23 · 13/05/2009 15:28

On another thread someone posted that they've read/heard that the ending of My Sister's Keeper has been changed for the film...no doubt it's all going to end happily ever after, typical of Hollywood.

nickschick do you mean Handle With Care? I have it but haven't got around to reading it yet - reading two other books at the moment...
On Amazon they have Handle With Care (American Version) and it's cheaper than the re-release that has just come out in England...if you can put up with the American spelling

oohhh nooooooooo dont say I have shite book taste

GetOrfMoiLand · 13/05/2009 15:17

I think it's a dozy book. I had to read it for a book club, thought it was reallt trite and the ending was awful.

Can imagine Cameron Diaz being overly emotive in the film - can't imagine it's a film I would want to see.

BlingDreaming · 13/05/2009 15:14

Most irritating book ever written. I was horrified that the FT actually profiled her last week.

nickschick · 13/05/2009 15:13

I heart Jodi Picoult and im desperate to read the new book but too stingy to pay £7.50
19 minutes is the best one so far imo

chegirl · 13/05/2009 15:11

The girl's parts are the most important really (well IMO). Who will be playing them?

I thought the book was incredibly well researched. The way she described the impact of the disease on the family was very good. I thought the ending was rubbish though.

I really, really hope the film gets across the impact of childhood cancer over as well. There is no way on this earth that I will go and watch it so I will rely on you lot to let me know.

mamadiva · 13/05/2009 10:27

The book was okay but man that's goimng to be a depressing movie
