I like crime fiction. I like female crime writers (but not exclusively) Who have I missed?

I think I'm about up to date with everyone's books that I know I like.

Need to take a trip to the library next week, who should I be looking for?

Sophie Hannah is brilliant.

Birdman and The Treatment are the best ones

blueshoes - isn't it odd when you read the little biog and look at her photograph. Hard to imagine a petite Cath Kidston bunting mummy writing such stuff ?!

Read all Karin Slaughter's (even the last one... not sure about the ending, can't wait for the next one...) and didn't really like Pig Island by Mo Hayder, and I've heard that that was the least graphic of the lot, so not sure I really want to try her.

Yes, I'm fairly Val McDermid-ed up but not tried the others mentioned so far.

Am doing a list so I know what to look for, keep 'em coming...

Sparkle Hayter - very lightweight, funny, private eye stuff

I can only think of the very obvious female crime writers, and I assume you've read the main male writers too (Michael Connelly etc). Have you tried Henning Mankell?

cocolepew · 24/01/2009 22:18

Janet Evanovich - very funny P.I novels

Sue Grafton - female P.I. books

blueshoes · 24/01/2009 22:18

I cannot read Mo Hayder anymore now that I have dcs. But I managed to get through Birdman and The Treatment prior. She is unparalleled.

Donna Leon.
Italian detective. Lots of nice food, a happily married detective who isn't an alcoholic, interesting stories. Fab.

laidbackinengland · 24/01/2009 22:16

Peter James (not a woman obviously...)?

grumpalina · 24/01/2009 22:15

Kathryn Fox I fantastic although so far she's only written three I think.

I presume you've read ValMcDiarmid.

Nicci French for something abit unusual.

TheThoughtPolice · 24/01/2009 22:11
