I like crime fiction. I like female crime writers (but not exclusively) Who have I missed?

I think I'm about up to date with everyone's books that I know I like.

Need to take a trip to the library next week, who should I be looking for?

WTS, have you tried Denise Mina? I think Kay Scarpetta and her creator are barking mad.

WeeTimorousSquonkie · 24/01/2009 22:36

coco - James Lee Burke's daughter writes a good book as well - can't remember her name but I really enjoyed the one I read. I shall add her to my list as well.

Ian Rankin, Sara Paretsky and the Kellermans I've also read.

Ian Rankin
Faye Kellerman
Jonathan Kellerman
Robert Crais
John Harvey
Carl Hiaasen
Ed McBain
James Lee Burke
Sara Paretsky

WeeTimorousSquonkie · 24/01/2009 22:32

yeah, Patricia Cornwell.

I re-read some of her Scarpetta ones recently and came to the conclusion that I really, really don't like bloody Kay bloody Scarpetta and I really don't care about her. And who cares if she makes good pasta sauce????

Kathy Reichs as well, I kind of went off her a bit and tried to sell all the books I had, but I couldn't and they filled a space in my new huge bookcase so I kept them

Heated · 24/01/2009 22:31

Also Steig Larsson is worth a look imo.

Sidge · 24/01/2009 22:31

Janet Evanovich
Kathy Reichs
Lee Child
Dennis Lehane
Peter Robinson

blueshoes · 24/01/2009 22:31

Female crime writers I don't or no longer like;

Patricia Cornwall
Kathy Reichs
Linda Farnstein

bringbackpacers · 24/01/2009 22:31

I like Val McD and also all the vintage stuff, personally. I also enjoyed most of the Dalziel and Pascoe ones (Reginald Hill).

WeeTimorousSquonkie · 24/01/2009 22:30

some of Tess Gerritson is good, but I can't get on with the mills & boon-y type ones that she writes. There's always a murder or two thrown in, but they seem to be just a plot device to get girl to meet boy or vice versa.

Read a couple of Lisa Gardners, forgot about her, I shall add her to the list

OP posts:
Heated · 24/01/2009 22:28

I second Janet Evanovitch's Stephanie Plum series

bran · 24/01/2009 22:28

Tess Gerritsen
Alex Kava
Lisa Gardner

Not a woman, and more of a thriller than a crime writer, but Lee Child

blueshoes · 24/01/2009 22:28

Harlen Coben comes up with nightmarish scenarios. The one from Mark Billingham I remember is Sleepyhead where the killer leaves women in a state of suspended animation.

WeeTimorousSquonkie · 24/01/2009 22:27

x posted with CSWS - yes, I have a full set of Jeffery Deaver as well.

Have read some Sue Grafton but I'm struggling a bit with "K"

OP posts:
WeeTimorousSquonkie · 24/01/2009 22:26

I have a full set of Michael Connelly, and I've read some Lee Childs (I've exhausted the library's stock at least...)

The others mentioned I don't think I've tried.

These are good, thanks guys

Well as you're a fan of Val and Karin and I am too, you should certainly like Jeffery Deaver - have you read him?

Also like the Sue Grafton alphabet series already mentioned (though you have to cast your memory back to times pre mobile phones for her stories), and Kathy Reichs (some of hers are better than others IMO).

wrongsideof40 · 24/01/2009 22:25

hi - can't hink of any women you've missed - so how about some men - there's the Swedish chap whose name I forget - recently serialised on BBC with Kenneth Branagh - or have you read 'The Interpretation of Murder ' by Jez Rubenfeld or Restless by William Boyd is edge of the seat stuff

TheThoughtPolice · 24/01/2009 22:25

Billinghams latest one was v disappointing according to DH

fishiedewar · 24/01/2009 22:24

cocolepew · 24/01/2009 22:23

Lee Childs

blueshoes · 24/01/2009 22:23

TTP, Mo must have turned to the darkside ...

pushchair · 24/01/2009 22:23

Or vintage stuff like
Ngaio Marsh
Margery Allingham
Dorothy L Sayers

WeeTimorousSquonkie · 24/01/2009 22:22

yeah, I like Harlen Coben, nice and easy! And Mark Billingham, I've read a couple of his (although I can't remember which ones off the top of my head...)

OP posts:
TheThoughtPolice · 24/01/2009 22:22

DH loves Mark Billingham but didn't rate his most recent one. Harlan Coben does my head in.

blueshoes · 24/01/2009 22:21

After a glut of gruesome crime novels, I now like Harlen Coben and Mark Billingham. Less of the gruesome sex-motivated serial murders.
